  • 8:48 that's so sad, look at her face. She should be having fun when she's 8 but she can't seem to be able to. :(

  • Wish they didn't stretch the picture vertically.. doesn't help get the desired response in my opinion.. rather, it makes it less believeable. Otherwise, well worth seeing. Thank you.

  • I know Dana. She's my friend from school, and I've been to her house for her birthday. If you're wondering, yes, she is doing perfectly fine now. She's definitely gotten over her sickness. :)

  • There are no words to describe how much I hate the media. Every time I turn on TV, all I see are bunch of commercials on how to get skinny, what to eat, how to look. They show this ''perfect'' body that no one has and people spend millions to achieve something unreachable, just so they can be accepted by the society that's not even decent! Young girls, girls younger than 10 start to starve themselves! HELLO?!?! Childhood should be your best time of life! You SHOULD eat cakes and not care!!!!

  • This is what the media is doing to women and girls, and anyone who says any different is delusional. The emphasis on appearance creeping down into childhood is absolutely terrifying to me. And it's not just appearance, what so many people don't understand is that it's just as much a coping mechanism as anything. You can't control feelings of anxiety or stress, but you can control what you eat and if all you see around you is diet this and diet that, it's not strange that's where children go..

  • I've seen this at least five times and yet I cry each time.

  • Oh no, when I was her age, I never worried about my weight, I just ate when I was hungry and that's all. It's obvious that she has been exposed to weight loss and being skinny at a very young age. Poor girl. Hope she's better nowadays x

  • this is so sad...i started this terrible journey when i was 11-12 (still pretty young) but at least it was at least a 3-4 year difference. im 16 now, and I feel terribly sorry for her.

  • This makes my heart hurt :(

  • When I was her age, I don't even know the word calories exist. I just eat when I'm hungry, and stop when I'm full. Poor girl.

  • an 8 year old wearing eye makeup?

anyway, this is awful D: I remember being depressed when I was that young but I've never had an ED before. That must be terrifying for a child.

  • @flyingsmilodon Yeah I was going to comment on her thick makeup too! She's a very pretty girl even without it, she doesn't need it til she's much older.

  • she looks just like my niece Corrie.

  • Dana's sister is BEAUTIFUL

  • When I was eight, I weighed less than her :S. I have an ED now... but it couldnt have developed that early, right? FUCK.

  • she looks like me when I was 8 years old. I didnt have an eating disorder, I was just skinny.

  • @eddyshortlegs

same here. But really with the hospitalization and her own starving, she was only not eating properly for about 6 weeks or so and even if your starving, you can't go super skinny in 6 weeks. Also, you don't notice as much on her because for one she was already skinny, and also, she doesn't have a figure yet, your hips and boobs aren't disappearing like they do for older girls with anorexia so its harder to see. She looks sick though. Like actually sick. She's pale, lifeless, ect.

  • I remember when I was in 3rd grade, I told my mom that I needed to lose weight (I was a skinny kid) but I didn't really know what I was talking about. I wasn't even aware of my body in that way until 7th grade. I pray for that little girl and anyone suffering from an eating disorder. Some people think that they want to have one because they can get skinny, but it's pure misery. Trust me.

  • My God.....this is scary

  • I weighed 3st when i was and i wasnt anorexic

  • who else is stuffing their face while watching this ??

  • the mother reminds me of the Catherine Tate sketch where she plays the burger ban worker...

  • she looked like bella thorne on her 8th birthday

  • seriousely? an 8yrl anorexic wearing makeup?

god, where is this world going..

  • @XawesomeXusernameX Wow. You're watching this segment focusing on a poor, poor girl who suffered from anorexia at such a young age and THAT'S what you're worrying about. Ugh, god! Where is this world going.

  • I know it sounds bad, but all those girls look so beautiful. I wish I were thin.

  • @AconiteAndCigarettes Me too.. when i was younger I wanted to become anorexic.... !

  • yasmine looks like selena gomez c:

  • Poor girl... I'm suffering with her. When I was at the children and youth psysichal department at the hospital three months ago there was a girl around nine there suffering from anorexia and she had to wear a tub. As her mom said she wasn't even allowed to walk in stairs when they first came there. I felt so sorry for her... that should have been a wake up call for me... but tomorrow is judgement day at the ED department! AVOID ANA! SHE MIGHT STEAL YEARS OF YOUR LIFE!

  • Her parent's do not deserve blame for her eating disorder. It a mental illness that can develop from any number of external and internal influences. When you see someone every day it is extremely hard to recognize weight loss. My parents didn't notice my eating disorder until I ended up in the hospital and they have carried that guilt with them for the past three years. I NEVER would blame my parents for "letting it get that bad". You become sneaky, a liar. Anyways, every case is different.

  • Something is seriously wrong in that house. How does an 8 year old know about this? What did she see on TV? Or hear from an older kid at school? She's a freaking baby. Her parents should feel so guilty and ashamed of themselves.

  • @angelsgurl Eating disorders have had a place in history for quite a while and not only for the reason of looking attractive. If you listened in the beginning, Dana says she didn't know what anorexia was. This is a MENTAL disorder. This child developing anorexia does not mean that her parents are bad parents. Society/the media is to blame here and it's quite difficult to protect a child from ideals that are being thrust onto them.

  • awww.. thts soo sad! i hope shes better :)

  • i do ballet and when i joined my dance school loads of the other girls at therewere very thin but i was rather chubby compared to them. they told me that the way to loose weight was to not eat at all so i didn't. i thought it was the proper way to loose weight. my friend was also anorexic because a boy told her she was too fat (she was never fat). it's horrible that people think we know exactly what we're doing to ourselves. we don't. we thought we were doing good to ourselves, we were wrong.

  • @sophmeister303 I hope you know this by now but the worst thing an athlete, who needs their body to be in prime condition and uses it vigorously every single day, can do is starve themselves. You especially need nutrition and energy when you're active like that, unless you want to pass out on stage, break something, always be tired, etc. It seems like you're over that phase though so just let this serve as a warning if it ever rears its ugly head again. Best of luck.

  • @AWickedMind yeah i figured that out when i did pass out one stage, en pointe, ending up in hospital and with a broken ankle. being a in ballet school at a young age, the teachers can often confuse the pupils by saying that we should watch our weight and doing repeated dorm checks for junk food, it can make some girls get a bit paranoid. many of the anorexic girls drink energy drinks so they can keep on dancing cause they're so tired, it those girls that need a warning now, not me

  • This is so sad. She is going to deal with this for the rest of her life. Eating disorders never go away completely.

  • Even if you try to stop, it just keeps going.

  • one of my best friends had to go to rhodes farm, she says now that even though she hated it at times it gave her her life back

  • I remember when i was eight, I already had an ed for three years...

  • It broke my heart when all the girls where singing and having fun and she was by herself in the corner. It's hard enough to have an eating disorder as it it but I just can't imagine how hard that would be to go through that without having anyone close to your age to relate to.

  • gee...an 8 year old shouldn't know about calories. that is a very good observation. i wonder who might have planted these seeds in her head? maybe the mother who conveniently shipped her off? i understand that she needed treatment, but 8 years old. ffs. she didn't come up with these ideas on her own. it does kind of sound like she has OCD though, which goes hand in hand with eating disorders sometimes. how did they let it get this bad?

  • lol my name is Dana but i pronounce it with a long a sound like in day or grape or angel

  • I developed anorexia when I was about 11. I'm 19 now and I'm finally really starting to overcome it (even though I am an extremely picky eater). So I hope this little girl and others with our disease overcome it and can be happy and healthy no matter how their body looks

  • Santhara.

  • OMG! She's just 8 and ED has already swallowed her childhood away!

  • This is RIDICULOUS. When i was eight I could care LESS how I looked!!!!!!!

  • @Toon999kinzpengwo So you didn't want to die as a kid. That's nice. Any reason why you feel the need to announce it?

  • How sad to read so many comments from ignorant people. She didn't do it for attention. She isn't a 'spoiled rich kid' and if you pay enough attention instead of just write bullshit, you'd see that her parents did notice quickly so isn't their fault either. If you know nothing about mental disorders then please just shut the fuck up because you are letting everyone know that you are stupid as hell.

  • im starving now!

  • I admit sometimes that I do feel self conscious about my body image, but I've never changing my eating habits or anything, but I've always wanted to be a bit thinner.

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 My sister is like that too, she's skinny but she eats a lot. I can tell the way people look at her that they're judging her. She can't help it though, she's naturally that small. She's actually trying to gain weight but it's just not working. I wish people wouldn't be so quick to judge. :/

  • Do not let the troll get to you! IT FEEDS ON ANGERY REACTIONS!!

  • 8 years old and wearing make up??

  • spoiled bitch, people would kill for the food that you are denying

  • @HuiHms yeah well apparently people will kill themselves if their society judges women by how they look and nothing else.

  • @HuiHms that was just disgusting. You don't understand mental illness at all. Why don't you go tell a suicidal person that they have no right to be unhappy because they're not starving to death? Why don't you tell a schizophrenic to just "act normal" while you're at it? You're not a voice of reason, you are just ignorant. Sorry.

  • kill the mainstream media!!!!!

  • hey its not the nparents fault anorexia is a real severe sickness

  • What's the song they're singing at the end?

  • @rfyhtfj who knew, by pink

  • @26max Piss off. It isn't about how intellectual you are. Clearly you are incredibly stupid and narrow minded. Don't comment on things you know nothing about.

  • I blame the rents.

  • what are stones.

  • @mskiki4eva1 its a unit of measurement, 1 stone = 14 pounds

  • this makes me feel really bad, seeing all these kids REALLY suffering from anorexia, and me trying to be like them. and i know that i can stop, but then i look at my body and i just hate it so much... i feel guilty that they don't have the oppertunity to stop, and i do, but i don't use that oppurtunity

  • she is fucking cute kid

  • I was 12 years old when I developed anorexia. It's the worst feeling in the world, like you're being swallowed up by a monster, but that monster is you. You know that it's horrible, but you just can't stop. I am 13 now. I am much better, but Ana still visits me sometimes :(. Dana, the most important thing is to tell someone. You will get better, just keep fighting. Much love darling <33

  • she's not anorexic, she suffers from anorexia.

it's like calling someone a person suffering downs syndrome a retard.

sorry for the offence, but it's exactly the same!

  • Don't let your ignorance blind you. Anorexia is a mental battle and illness and it's no ones fault yes they could force her but she herself admitted to throwing stuff up. There is much more to it then her simply refusing to eat.

  • Comment removed

  • just another case of poor little rich kid, take everything she has, grow a back bone and she'll start eating. it angers me that the parents are letting a 8 year old choose... when i wanted to be all grown up too but i didn't starve myself for my parents attention..

  • @blackandwhitedream

I AGREE! As a child i was a picky eater, and used to refuse to eat my dinner. My parents literally FORCED me to finish my table, or i had to sit there for the rest of the day. What did i do? I forced it in me. And if they weren't strict about it, i might end up getting anorexia in a older stage or something. When someone is 8, it ain't never their fault, but their parents! :-/

  • Kids are like this cause of bullies, if you're fat they'll pick on you as if there were perfect!

  • how the hell does this girl know about calories and intake and blablalba. The girl is freakin 8 years old???

  • My god someone needs to smack some sense into that girl

  • Why am I getting the feeling that parents are to blame for young kids becoming anorexics....

  • I'm bigger than my cousin (I'm kinda fat...) And my cousin (AnaXisXmyXfriend) is obviously anorexic...I asked her why...she said she didn't want to look like me... -_-

  • @AnaXisXmyXfriend It is so harsh that she don't want to be like you. You don't have problem and she do. Just work out and eat very healthy things that make you lose weight not Anorexia!

  • @daleyander2468 I'm fine with how I am. I'm healthy, I just look fat. But, it made me sad that she said that. She looks just like me at a healthy weight. And if anything, I have more problems than her. She is never bullied or been abused. I have, but she thinks it was just a diet. She obviously has no Idea what anorexia is...

  • @AnaXisXmyXfriend She don't understand what you have gone through the years. Later in the times she will understand what you have gone through and she too.

  • @peacewolf99 it's about 42 pounds ;)

  • Anorexia is a disease. She can't control what is happening to her, trust me, I know.

Also, one of the older girls must of done her makeup to go out with her family. Quit judging.

  • @CutieePiee303 Yes some smart people no that like you and me.

  • @XxKcookiez29 hey i am smart but i seriously always thought it was just something, i never knew it was a disease disease, is it like a mental thing, ur brain or something telling you ur fat and wat not? just want to know i never cared for anorexia or anything like that so i never looked up these things, I'm skinny too but eat TONS and nothing happens so :)

  • @hots4dabieber16 Lol ya i'm skinny and eat like a pig at the same time xD That's because we're lucky enough to have a high metabilism :D But anyways... Yah it's a mental thing /: You can't stop yourself. Like eating junk food xD Your body wants the junk food but in this case your body doesn't want no food.

  • how much is 3 stones in pounds . sorry im from the usa .

  • @peacewolf99 A stone is 14 pounds, so she was 42 pounds.

  • I think her parents were enabling her. They let her wear makeup and so she is already probably worrying about being attractive for the opposite sex. Little children shouldn't be worrying about this!

  • fuck up world, media fucking peoples mind

  • This is ridiculous, she's acting like a 13 year old, seriously what has this world come to ?

  • be advised, there is a Troll below me

  • She's fucked in the head. Let her starve.

  • her sister is sooooo pretty

  • People are saying "Oh yay, she got help!" But when stuff like this happens at such a young age, she will suffer for the rest of her life. Chances are that she has underlying disorders that may be triggering her anorexia, and she'll be on medication for the rest of her life. Poor kid.

  • I was so young when i went in to a place like this i was only 7

  • @thesouthernkiller80 I now have that feels but I have so many disorders I spend everynight of my life crying and in pain because of the pain I went and going through and the laughter and every thing I mean I hate having ezactly 28 disorders and diseases and every thing including a mested up metabolism measeg me back

  • 3 stones= 42 pounds/19 kilograms

  • It's so sad she's only 8!! :'(

  • I hate how people think I'm anorexic because I'm skinny. Some people have asked me if I'm sick. I get a little mad when they ask me this because I do eat! In fact, I eat a lot. I just have a fast metabolism.. but of course, the people who ask don't even know what a metabolism is. *sigh*

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 Same here.

I don't gain weght cause I have a high metabolism.

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 There is this one lady with a disorder that makes her look severly anorexic dispite the fact she eats a ton

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 Wow I thought I was the only one...yeah same here. its annoying isnt it

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 That's how I feel x:

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 SAME YEAR!

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 yeah my parents think i want to be skinny and i want to be a stick person and it makes me cry but it seems like they dont under stand either

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 The funny thing is that a lot of girls who do have EDs are gone unrecognised because they aren't underweight or they aren't super skinny. It's so horrible.

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 That means you poop a lot!

  • @0AdamHeartMother0 lol, my friend said that too.

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 haha nothing wrong with a healthy digestive system. I am the same, I eat ridiculous amounts of food but can never put on a lot of weight.

  • @TheSouthernKiller80 I'm not anorexic and I'm THIN. I also have a fast metabolism but I don't eat alot. My doctors are worried that I might get anorexia.

  • @QuarterHorses007 Anorexia isn't something that you just "get" that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

  • @bubbs2207 I mean I'm so thin that anorexia a possibilty...I don't eat anymore.

  • @bubbs2207 what is the differnce between "get" and "develop"?

  • Comment removed

  • Look at what the media is doing to kids and teens.

  • Comment removed

  • It's really not good to trick your kid like that. At that age, if you admit them ... they go ... there's no good that comes from telling them you're going bird watching and then taking them to a treatment facility. That'll just teach them never to trust you. :( Being straight up and honest with kids is easier than people think. "Honey, you're ill, we're going to the doctor." She may not understand right away, but in the end she'll be thankful her parents did what they did.

  • when i was 8 my mom spend over half a mil ONLY ON MY MEALS but im not over weight for some reason.........

  • I think the reason a lot of people are anorexic is because it's like if a teacher asked what 1+1 was and everyone said 4 but you knew in your head it was 2 but you just said 4 to fit in.if you say what the rest of the class is saying just to fool the teacher, if the teacher was the part of your brain that's still developing and needs to learn, and the class was the instinct, or the brain that was already taught, instead they need to reteach there instinct but they won't

  • Wow... I feel so bad for her. I really do. I am almost healthy from anorexia myself, but I'm still stuck in the calorie count, and I still want to be skinnier... But I follow my meals, and eat with no problem anymore. But I am 13, and she is 8. When I was 8, I didn't worry about food at all. Not at all.

  • Maybe she got anorexic because of school

maybe she studied healthy foods and they taught the children what calories are and that junk food is bad. Dana may have taken this too seriously and thought by doing this is good but then led to anorexia.

many people who have been diagnosed with this have had this problem

Especially the people who calorie count

  • I have done music therapy with adolescents with eating disorders, and I had a nine year old in my clinical. It was sad, her self image was horrible. When I was done with my clinical there, I gave her a big hug and reminded her that she was pretty. It was really heart breaking to see someone so young already feel that way, and I just want to hug all these ladies and tell them they are beautiful, just please be healthy! :(

  • @ItsMeCamiiii me too. my mom has to go grocery shopping like every other day because of me..

  • How did this kid even learn how to count calories and know about how exercise burns them? When I was that age I certainly didn't understand any of that. Someone had to teach her something about this.

  • @CrimsonOkami I'm older and I STILL don't understand all that stuff. I just try to eat healthy, make sure I feel good and happy with my image, and maintain a good weight range.

  • anorexia is rarely about wanting to be thinner. it's about wanting to disappear.

  • i tink its somthing to do wif her dad

  • I am 10 And I am Serching Up Thinspo I Am 96.2 Pounds I am Really Fast And My Height Is 4''11 . I am Very Mature And I Am Very Smart . I Have Everything . Style . Friends . But I Would It All For buety . People In My School Are Very Immature They Make Fun Of You They Dont Relize Wats In You :( I Am Now Starving My Self . Period I Have Had Enough Food . I Want To Be Buetyiful. I Need To Feel Like Buetiful . I Gave up My Halloween Candy My Friends Wonder Whats Wrong With My I Say My Stomach Hurts.

  • @bailergirlxo Your looking for attenchion. Which strangely im not gonna be mean about it. Learn to spell BEAUTIFUL an we can talk ;)

  • @Muffycupiecakes Okay, not to be mean...but...your telling her to spell beautiful...but you can't spell attention? And it is not an...it is AND. But...your right, this girl really just wants attention. No one really admits they HAD it until they are recovered.

  • Why does it seem like all of these studies on kids wanting to be skinny, is always done over in Britain??... if you think this is bad search.. " skinyn kids- part one"..!!!

  • In America people dont start worrys about that untill wat 40?!

  • everytime i watch a video like this i stop eating for like a day and then get to hungry and eat like a pig

  • I when i was younger I went through a period were i just didnt feel hungry at all, i barely ate at school but when i got home i normally at then. Also i would just sleep the weight off, but i did eat- loved eating but my mom got really worried cause the teachers would tell her i wasnt eating at school. Then after that period was over i went back to eating the way a normal young girl would eat. It was such a strange moment. for me. But i hope this girl has gotten better.

  • this is a sad documentary, but happy towards the end. no one as young as 8 should go through this :( no one at ALL should go through it

  • why does a 8 year old girl use make up?

  • @MoscerinoGonzalez It's probably because she is in a clinic with a lot of older girls. They have makeup and either taught her how to use it or put it on her.

  • @MoscerinoGonzalez because they are on TV..........

  • @MoscerinoGonzalez well its usually if a person has a feeling of low self worth, or just does not like how they look like, in her case because of her body, hope this helps abit!

  • She's so beautiful :( and so young. This shouldn't be happening. 8 year olds shouldn't be worrying about this stuff. This makes me so sad. :( she's just so young.. even though I've been struggling with an ed and I'm 15. It just breaks my heart to see this :( When I was 8 I didn't even care what I ate until i was 12!

  • I know hoe Dana felt when she first when to the unit, my parents said that they were taking me to visit my grandma and when I saw that it was the ED clinic, I went into a full blown mental breakdown. They had to take me into a police car back to the clinic. It was horrible, I'll never starve myself again.

  • @foreverpixie

I've been trying that for over a darn year! No luck... :(

  • I think it's really sad how, even 8 year olds, now are subjected to anorexia. Its sad to know that not only teenagers and adults suffer from it :'(

  • Lol the fact that Rhodes Farm is in north London which is about 4-5 hours further than north yorkshire and the motorway signs saying London might have given away the fact she wasn't going to north Yorkshire.

But bad for her to have an eating disorder at 8.

Me personally, ED is great, he looks after you.

  • At 8, I was skinny, but that was natural. I feel bad for this girl. At 8 years old, she shouldn't be worrying about her figure.

That said, however, I'm 17 and have actually been trying to develop anorexia so I could lose weight (50 pounds, to be exact). Unfortunately, I have little to no self-control, so I'm going to be fat for the rest of my life. That doesn't feel good either! :(

  • @Solitemel Anorexia is an eating disorder that distorts your self image, you wouldn't know when to stop until you slowly die, and so I think you mean you want to go on a diet...

  • @Turquoise278

No, I mean I have actually been trying to develop anorexia.

  • when i was 8 i was super skinny but that was because i was bouncing about being a happy child. poor girl

  • You can also tell what clips were taken when Dana first entered the clinic and later into her stay. At 1:45 you can tell she hasnt been there long because of how gaunt her face is and her eyes are sunk into her face.

  • Bryony looksmuch better than she did when she left Rhodes farm in the other video.

  • this isn't the donna i saw on 9gag :(

  • is that just me or does yasmine, dana's siter look like selena gomez?

  • when i was 8 i ate like 3 thousand calories a day, my mom had to stock up the fridge everyday!

  • I was twice her weight at eight...

  • I was twice her weight at eight...

  • does anyone have an update on Dana? She must be 10 or 11 now?

  • @sazwoz1 12 shes fine and well

  • @Chole154 Oh that's so good :) Thankyou

  • I didnt know what calories meant at 8 !!! Or cared , poor girl :s

  • who cares if shes anorexic, shes skinny, better than being fat
