Critics be damned, this is a fine film and so American, as if the ghosts of Steinbeck, Burroughs and Fitzgerald (Faulkner and Williams don;t own the south) were looking over the shoulder of the screenwriter, Maybe Hemingway too.The actors went a little beyond themselves to create an odd but heartbreaking cast of characters, not always likable but real. And the score was mandatory and haunting ... it's set in New Orleans. Do more Shainee Gabel,

My brother's next door neighbor (Ronnie Capps) wrote the book this is based on. Bobby Long, however, did not die a dignified death. However, his son Grayson Capps who makes a cameo as one of the bar musicians is a really good guy. The real Bobby Long was known by my parents. He went to Atmore, Alabama then got drunk, wandered out into the woods, passed out, and died of exposure. I heard stories of coyotes eating his body but I can't verify that.

typed the name of a song by grayson capps, turns out its a movie. Very strange, but I watched all the way through and its a pretty good film. Nothing like the song though. BTW I'm a new orleans local, and this hold pretty close to truth. We don't have southern accents so much, and it's funny to me that sometimes they live in the bywater and sometimes on the westbank. But that's just things that I notice. Check out the song!! Save the wetlands!! Love NOLA!!
