secondly, there is always a need for people to be the blacksmiths, welders, farmers, doctors.. this utopian society we would love to have still has to have people to do the in-between jobs. ...although, I do agree, if we used our minds to our full potential, one person could be all of those if they studied, and wanted to learn.
Cliffnotes: eliminate greed, laziness, and just be your full self!
I love this but I really question the 'do not share your achievements with others'. If I had a cure for cancer, aids, dietetics or greed itself, I would share it.
the fundamental difference between ayn & modern conservatism is that she doesn't rely on religion, or ANY "magical thinking" of any kind..... fine with me
@basscataz It's my impression that the fundamental difference is the Judeo-Christian ethic. She despised Jesus and regarded The Sermon on the Mount as propaganda that aims to reduce the masses to the form of a sacrificial animal. From what I've gathered, the only thing she had in common with the American Right was capitalism. She was atheist, pro-choice, and for gay rights. I still don't understand how the Right can tout her. Besides economics she opposed everything else they stand for.
@basscataz Hers is the secular morality that was missing from the liberty-minded. It will displace the vapidity of religion that plagues social conservatives today.
Wow. Ok. I just listened to the whole thing, and I find that I agree more than not. It was my impression that Ayn Rand was an ally of the religious right, but listening to this shows that she is not. I have a honest question. How is it that Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity can promote the movie?
@40gabe because they, for all their good and bad points, are actually fair-minded thinkers. :) most media is not only not that, but is of the villainous variety referred to herein.
