I never thought this would sound good on the piano, but the lines at the beginning are so clear. I still prefer the original, but I'll certainly be listening to this again. Thanks for uploading.
I Quote a famous conductor '' Good music enters the ear with the greatest of ease ....and leaves with the greatest of difficulty '' Sir Adrian Boult .. This applys Superb 10/10
non mi sarei mai aspettato che suonasse così bene anche al pianoforte questo capolavoro indiscusso!!! complimenti ottima interpretazione!! bravissimo!!!!!!
Fantastic performance! Thanks for posting. I haven't heard this Liszt transcription before. Incidentally, you can download the music for free from IMSLP. There's also an amazing organ transcription of the whole overture out there (by Lemare), but I've never heard of anyone performing it - it's nearly impossible. My favorite Wagner work!
You can get it (almost) free from CD-Sheet Music. That's where I got mine. Be forewarned: In a discussion of its difficulties, Liszt himself said that he doubted that there would ever be 10 pianists who could play it (I can't, but simplify some parts).
this song was playing in my head and body this morning. i was familiar with it but didn't know what it was. i heard it on the radio today then came to the internet. i watched this performance as i read the history of Tanhausser, on Music with Ease. it's the song of the pilgrimms, joyous! i felt in this body a sense of release and liberation within -- the symbol of another level of spiritual maturation, Dawn.
Correction: It's the overture. It contains parts of the pilgrims' choir theme though. These parts run more or less through the entire opera.
Wonderful piece, and also superbly executed. Never heard the piano version before. Come to think of it, maybe it always seemed impossible to play with only one set of hands...
The Zofin Hall is a most sacred concert hall in Europe. It is in Prague on a small island in the Vltava near the national theatre. It is where Liszt gave the first orchestral performance of the prelude and liebestod from Tristan.Liszt often performed there.
phenominal, this artistry beggars belief, another one of those extremely rare things that come along once (if you're lucky )in a lifetime,I know I SHALL NEVER FORGET SEEING THIS.Absolutely awesome,I feel so humble.
I think that the piano can capture the intention of many melodies, but still some expressions in music can only truly be expressed by some certain instruments or an ensemble of many instruments.
This is how you recognise when a piece of Music is good : it's sounds great no matter the version played.
Even though I prefer the wagnerian grandiosity (oh the brass instruments!) this piano version is highly enjoyable.

I love your liberties taken... after all, it's a piano piece now, play it the way the piano would play it.

I truly love this piece and Lessner, you're amazing! It's truly astonishing to watch.
I have to admit I just can't shake the visuals of Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny out of my head when I listen to it. I even sing the lyrics in my head.

And let's not forget that Wagner was the son in law of Franz Liszt. Great pianist by the way.

Tenía razón Listz cuando decía que ninguna música perdía fuerza ni emoción al pasarla de cualquier conjunto instrumental al piano.
