  • This is how you recognise when a piece of Music is good : it's sounds great no matter the version played.

Even though I prefer the wagnerian grandiosity (oh the brass instruments!) this piano version is highly enjoyable.

  • I never thought this would sound good on the piano, but the lines at the beginning are so clear. I still prefer the original, but I'll certainly be listening to this again. Thanks for uploading.

  • Moseiwitsch , Bolet,Cziffra and him are phenomenals in this piece^^

  • I Quote a famous conductor '' Good music enters the ear with the greatest of ease ....and leaves with the greatest of difficulty '' Sir Adrian Boult .. This applys Superb 10/10

  • divine and superb no other words can say it

  • Fantastic performance! Thanks for posting. I haven't heard this Liszt transcription before. Incidentally, you can download the music for free from IMSLP. There's also an amazing organ transcription of the whole overture out there (by Lemare), but I've never heard of anyone performing it - it's nearly impossible. My favorite Wagner work!

  • quite possibly the most beautiful thing that i have ever heard.

  • 2:18 is what excites me the most. Overall though, this piece is flawless.

  • This performance kicks my ass still LOL!!!!

I love your liberties taken... after all, it's a piano piece now, play it the way the piano would play it.

love the dark color at 1:00

  • Wow, that's a suicide piece! Bravo!

  • This guy is amazing! It never even occurred to me that this could be done on a piano. Magnificent!

  • @Erazmus72 : One could bring down then WTC Towers on a piano ?

  • Liszt made everything sound well on the piano except Mozart's symphony no 40.

  • where can i get sheet music for this?!?!? please help me.

  • You can get it (almost) free from CD-Sheet Music. That's where I got mine. Be forewarned: In a discussion of its difficulties, Liszt himself said that he doubted that there would ever be 10 pianists who could play it (I can't, but simplify some parts).

  • @thegreatwhitemark you won't be able to play it regardless, probably the hardest piece in the world to play

  • Oh my God, it's so beautiful.

  • Perfekt!!!

  • Genau

  • I grew up with that music.

  • this song was playing in my head and body this morning. i was familiar with it but didn't know what it was. i heard it on the radio today then came to the internet. i watched this performance as i read the history of Tanhausser, on Music with Ease. it's the song of the pilgrimms, joyous! i felt in this body a sense of release and liberation within -- the symbol of another level of spiritual maturation, Dawn.

(thank You for the joy of this moment)

peace and be well and play on!

  • Correction: It's the overture. It contains parts of the pilgrims' choir theme though. These parts run more or less through the entire opera.

Wonderful piece, and also superbly executed. Never heard the piano version before. Come to think of it, maybe it always seemed impossible to play with only one set of hands...

  • I truly love this piece and Lessner, you're amazing! It's truly astonishing to watch.

I have to admit I just can't shake the visuals of Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny out of my head when I listen to it. I even sing the lyrics in my head.

  • This is such a technically difficult piece and to perform it so well live is truly a great feat!

  • yo quieroe sta partitura!!!

  • One of my favorite operas! I love Tannhauser, except the part where they strangled Elizabeth!

    But this performance is wonderful!

  • Richard Wagner rules!!!! What a masterpiece!

  • "Richard Wagner rules!!"

Superb - so funny to hear an American football-type chant about a composer.

    :)

  • Richard Wagner rocks!!!!

  • The Zofin Hall is a most sacred concert hall in Europe. It is in Prague on a small island in the Vltava near the national theatre. It is where Liszt gave the first orchestral performance of the prelude and liebestod from Tristan.Liszt often performed there.

  • You don't hear this that much performaed anymore...

  • otterhouse-Listen to the Jorge Bolet version-also available on You Tube. It is magnificent, and I take nothing away from this performance.

  • Bravo! Absolutely Stunning!

  • Bravo.

  • The great Richard Wagner...

  • This is a spectacular rendition---I'm glad it's on here.

  • You can always find the right music for words --- but you can never quite find the right words for music...

  • Wagner realmente é FODA!!

  • Its the kind of music that makes your heart melt, freezes it, and makes it melt again...it's very addicting.

  • And let's not forget that Wagner was the son in law of Franz Liszt. Great pianist by the way.

  • I believe thats at the University of Miami.

  • wow :o

  • damn dude this song IS playable :)

  • It's NOT A SONG.

  • Sin palabras

  • well said

  • phenominal, this artistry beggars belief, another one of those extremely rare things that come along once (if you're lucky )in a lifetime,I know I SHALL NEVER FORGET SEEING THIS.Absolutely awesome,I feel so humble.

  • I totally agree with you

  • I think that the piano can capture the intention of many melodies, but still some expressions in music can only truly be expressed by some certain instruments or an ensemble of many instruments.

  • impressive!

  • VERYY....... GOOD
