@moneyjr1122 the glass has tiny notches which reflect a laser a different way. the notches are then transformed onto the plastic of the CD.
checkout the cd laser diagram (address): i.cmpnet.com/informationweek/blog/mempile_block-diagram_lg.jpg
if the tiny part of the disc is reflective, the laser goes back into the 1 way mirror (prism)/dichroic then into the lens and detector, millions of times per minute which is how speed is determined.
so if it detects, it makes a 1, which is binary data!
@jingle41 each finished disc actually only takes a few seconds... it takes me about 10 minutes to burn a 2GB disc, so without these techniques future disc sizes (blu-ray) would take forever!
actually this one is the master or how they call it original. it takes longer time because they're making the disc from scratch then they add some final touches, we have the "original" ones but they're just giving us "copy" from the original one which is this one shown above! ^_^
when its in the market to the buyers to buy the cd its a "clone" for them but for the customers, are original :)... not a prototype cuz prototypes are constantly changing parts to get it perfect. but a name could be original :D. i dont know if you get me but its a logical way to explain :D
Capitalism sir. People have to make profit. People have to be paid. Supply and demand.
Next time you finish a game, sit there and read the credits. Think about your 60 dollars spread out evenly among the hundreds of people it took to make it. It's not that much if you think of it that way.
The process was not for cd`s that are burned with cd/dvd burners. The process is for branded CD`s like music, films, games etc. that u buy from the store.

As always, good stuff by How It's Made. Thanks for sharing it.
The narrator sounds so much like David Schwimmer. I know it's not him, but it's still such a terrible voice... it's like he's in puberty-limbo.
Glad they change narrators often.

lol, it takes less then a second to make one.
dragonjiggy 2 years ago
well generally they wouldn't do this by hand like in the video, and they would do many disks at the same time (or asynchronously)
