  • @yourecoveredinbees WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :))

  • I love his voice : o

  • I understood this trailer.

  • After years of considering myself a film buff I finally watched this film last night. It was really damn good....FOR THE TIME. Good lord what is wrong with people, there is no way that this is the greatest american movie ever made. It was influential yes, it was original yes but there have been hundreds of releases since 1941 that have surpassed this film in almost every way. I find it really annoying when people think that they HAVE to call it the best film ever made.

  • Personally, I liked the cinematography and the imagery this film aquired, but I didn't really like the basic story. I just seemed boring to me.

  • Thumbs up if you saw this on the VHS version first

  • 56 people are completely lost on good quality

  • Citizen Kane? Heh. More like Citizen DERP!!!

  • i would not watch this movie if my life depends on it

  • what a fantastically shot trailer

  • Yourefavoritemartian brought me here Nerd rage

    thumbs up if you to

  • Whats so special about this movie??? Know everybody likes it. Kubrick, Scorsese but i could not see it???

  • @saqibk1Well, to put it In short words. It's the birth of modern Film-making. Everything you mostly see in movies now...leads all the way back to this film. The revolution of amazing script writing, Camera shots, and the choice of a brilliant cast.

  • @saqibk1 Well, to put it in short words. It's the birth of modern Film-making. Everything that you've seen in movies leads all the way back to this film right here. The revolution of detailed script writing/dialogue, the enhancement of modern camera angles and shots, and the choice of a brilliant cast of high class actors. History my friend.

  • @massivecrown For the American cinema its maybe history, and the power it got because of Hollywood, and the fact that USA does not import movies they only export (mostly). Then its english languaged, thats a big benefit, suppose it was a Italian production. Don´t think it would have the same impact or recognition. And for me, can´t see any Polanski or Lynch touch in it, perhaps a bit of Kubrick. I would go for Bergman, Fellini or Kurosawa for the birth of modern Film-making.

  • It was his sled from when he was a kid. There, I just saved you two long boobless hours.

  • @BakRU84 There are boobs, they're just under fabric.

  • A rich full bodied wine sensibly priced at a dollar a jug. Now for a little magic, I will make this jug disappear......

  • Unbelievable!

  • Tobuscus brought me here.

  • @herbiejunior10 WHO THE FUCK CARES YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT???

  • @mrMehumatti THE PEOPLE WHO PRESSED THUMBS UP FUCKING FUCKFACE

  • @herbiejunior10 how?

  • ROSEBUD!

  • Shout out to my homies who arrived the same way I did -- searching "Citizen Kane trailer". Woo!

  • @yourecoveredinbees DURR You think that maybe searching for a Trailer to Citizen Kane would... I don't know... maybe.. return a result to THE CITIZEN KANE TRAILER?

  • ...balleyhooo....yesss...

  • I saw this great movie on TV last night...what was it called?

  • NERD RAGE BROUGHT ME HERE !!! LMAO

  • the godfather trailer

  • Jesus Christ came to earth and died a criminal’s death not because He had broken the Law, but because we had. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. What should you do? Repent, turn from your sins & put your complete faith in Jesus Christ as your Savoir and Lord. You may die today, in your sin. Is there any reason why you would not accept God’s gift? More info at living waters website with true & false conversion audio sermon. God Bless!

  • This movie was one of the worst movies I've seen in my entire life, it was boring, long, too much talk, bad actors, etc... the worst movie I've seen ever.

  • @easyonetwothree Of course, because everyone knows good movies involve fast paced, action filled scenes with sexy women and explosions! Who needs plot? Dialogue? LOL why develop a character when you can just have him be handsome, fill him with quick one liners and have him shoot stuff!!

Oh and all them fancy filming techniques they used in this film? FAIL. Anyone with half a brain knows 3-D and HD beats creative and groundbreaking cinematography techniques any time! I mean just look at Avatar!

  • @Vildasnaga No no not that, it was just a bad boring movie, people exagerate when they say it's the best movie ever etc.

  • @easyonetwothree The AFI calls it the best not because Bob Average liked it but because of what it brought to the table for directors and screenwriters of the time. The moviegoers like/dislike of it has little to do with it and is subject to personal taste.

Orson Welles pushed a lot of boundaries on how movies were made and directed with the film, thats what earned it its place

While most movies entertain people this one also helped developed the cinema industry.

My Bob Average take on it? Meh

  • @Vildasnaga you clealry dont have a half of brain!!...you complete ignorance and lacks of sense of history is alarming!....citizen kane brings great film techniques in that time that in present day seems nothing to a boy like you....im 22 year old but im more respectul that you....you seriously can name avatar??? avatar??? when cameron make a film without clishes and 2-d characters let me know!!!!

  • @ceratoidegus I'm being called a half-brain by a guy who hasn't realized I'm vouching IN FAVOR of Citizen Kane? Have you even read my comment at all? Do you have any grasp of sarcasm whatsoever? Oh the sweet, sweet irony.

Oh and by the way, your age is not a credential, unless its all you have going for you.

  • @Vildasnaga I lol'd at his comment....

  • @easyonetwothree keep watching transformers and twilight!...when you grow up, then try to see this film!

  • There are movies such as Casablanca, The Godfather, and Gone with the Wind that are absolutely brilliant...but Citizen Kane is in a completely different league of its own.

  • pure groundbreaking instant classic. of the best.

  • And there's the cane from Citizen Kane! Wait... there WAS no cane in Citizen Kane >:(

  • อย่าพึ่งรีบดู ถ้าคุณพร้อมและอยากดูจริงๆค่อยดู

    หนังดี ดูเมื่อไหร่ก้อได้ครับ

  • This movie is truly a masterpeace ,but Hollywood is planning on making a remake. Citizen Kane is a movie that is a timeless classic. Everytime I see the movie, it improves. I find it very insulting that they would even consider a remake just so the studios can make more money.

  • cumming attraction

  • HEEHEE! ^-^ This is so cuuute! ^-^

    Yaysies! ^-^

    ♥ Annusya ♥

  • Yeah, i'd watch this film but just for the chorus girls. Thats my unintelligent opinion, cheers people

  • I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's a good movie, but thumbs up if you think this ISN'T the best movie of all time

  • one of the greatest movies and orson welles one of the greatest actors & directors. ever. Maybe the biggest movie director. And he never won an oscar, not even for this great movie.

    Fuck the oscar's.

  • @VorVeEnterprises Ray william johnson is a wanker....what did he do pick on the movie????

  • I came from yourfavouritemartian

  • A Catch 22 remake or movie would be really good it could win something

  • Yellowjournalism, gerrymandering, corruption still really corrupt in 2008 really corruption with Hearst and Teddy Roosevelt but good scence with the debate for governor one of the best scenes

  • The Debate Scence was really good also War of the World on radio that would be good to do some radio thing or something futuristic

  • thumbs up if you came here because of yourfavoritemartian nerd rage mentioned it

  • I'm pretty sure Alfred Hitchcocks Rebecca is a better film and deserved the 1940 oscar :)

  • "I am what I always have been an American" Citizen Kane RKO War of the Worlds

  • RKO war of the worlds

  • We need a new deal that's how bad the economy is right now

  • most boring movie i have ever watched. not sure why this is considered one of the best.

  • ROSEBUD IS THE NAME OF THE SLED ROSEBUD IS THE NAME OF THE SLED ROSEBUD IS THE NAME OF THE SLED ROSEBUD IS THE NAME OF THE SLED ROSEBUD IS THE NAME OF THE SLED ROSEBUD IS THE NAME OF THE SLED ROSEBUD IS THE NAME OF THE SLED ROSEBUD IS THE NAME OF THE SLED

  • @lordoftheLOL01 Sorry family guy alerdy spoiled it for me.

  • wow youre a fucking idiot. @SawThatComingAgain

  • What could you possibly see in this movie? I mean this. This is the truth. It is the most overrated film of all-time. Watching Citizen Kane was the biggest letdown of my entire viewing experience. On a scale of one-to-ten, I'd rate it a three. It sucks!

  • Haven't seen the movie yet, and I love this trailer. Now I have to rent it lol

  • Ugh, this movie was boring. Not to say it wasn't good.

  • I really don't get the love for this film honestly. Its okay but it puts me to sleep 4 mins in. Sure it had some neat techniques not denying that but the characters are just so unlikeable and shallow. Not really the best film ever or greatest ever IMO.

  • i don't get it, the trailer tells you nothing about the movie, more of a advert then a trailer

  • @dave1233345

Thats the brilliance of it. Trailers are adverts. Many trailers for movies these days spell out the plot and are almost exactly the same as every other trailer. The trailer for Citizen Kane, works on the basis that an advert is only supposed to get you thinking about a product, and does so by asking us who Charles Foster Kane is? This is also a hint at the films unreliable narration which was a novel technique in film back in 1941.

  • @dave1233345 Nothing, it tells you nothin' ?! For me this is even better then the movie itself - genius trailer! He just tells you that this is the 'thing' you gotta see you know. Orson Welles is a remarkable character

  • Just watched this movie. Got to say I would love for someone to explain to me how its considered the greatest movie of all time, even put ahead of Casablanca, The Godfather, Gone with the wind, hell even Lord of the RIngs (which should be top 10 not 50). Its well directed sure, but how is this the best?? Either i dont understand, or critics just jumped on the bandwagon.

dont get me wrong the movie was good...just not the greatest film of all time, not by a long shot.

  • @lukethegreat101

The trouble with Citizen kane is that the massive weight of its reputation and its 70 years of influence over American cinema, can leave new comers disappointed. The best way to enjoy the film is to research its history to gain an appreciation of its contributions. The films reputation comes from its innovative literary and visual techniques.

  • Significantly, the film was rediscovered in the 1950s, just as film theory was beginning to be taught as a subject. Because Citizen Kane features a wealth of techniques, it quickly became very popular in academic circles. It was this generation of film academics that grew up to become great directors including Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola and Scorsese who all helped to revolutionize mainstream Hollywood film making. That is why Citizen Kane is considered to be the greatest film of all time.

  • @lukethegreat101 mainly because all those movies you just said uses all the film tricks in citezen kane.

  • This movie is good, great even, but severely over-rated.

  • @PolkadotGary It is because it was on of a kind at its time, nowadays, they use everything he invented.

  • What's so special about this movie. Doesn't even look good... and I'm not saying that because it's black and white.

  • @redXmoney well lets see...It will make u Sh*t, it will make u fart, it will make u suck co*k. How many movies will make u do all that.

  • Citizen Kane. "The Greatest Film No One Wants To See"

  • That being said, the acting is fantastic (for the most part), the cinematography and music is top-notch, even to this day, and Orson Welles has an interesting and wonderful ability to create suspense and tension. However, in my opinion, the movie lacks primarily in the main premise and the result of the movie. For all the build up and curiosity made over what Kane's final words "Rosebud", the ending isn't very satisfying.

    Just my opinion.

  • @AdonTimasu You just didn't get the simple message - Money can make you rich and famous, but only art can leave memories in the others, and Mr. Welles proved that pretty nice

  • @alexjrmarino I figured that out about 3 weeks ago. :\

  • Why is this called the best movie ever by everyone, the acting looks terrible

  • @Jurassicparkz08 The acting is actually phenomenal! There are a few performs that are what one may call "anus barf" (a strange man said that...) - Dorothy Comingore as Susan Alexander Kane mainly, but that may just be because she is suppose to be whiny and overly-demanding - but Orson Welles as Charles Foster Kane is one of the best performances I've seen in a movie.

  • @Jurassicparkz08 This is a jokey preview. The acting isn't serious.

  • @karanmaxfilms Star Wars it`s all about the characters and how they fit in the story. Avatar has close to none character development.

  • Good to see movie trailers haven't changed much

  • @karanmaxfilms Avatar is not great for today's standards, it is a representation of today's standards. Shallow re-edits, sequels, prequels, stories that entertained three-year olds used to dull the minds of their now adult forms (i.e transformers)... Movies like Star Wars are only cliched because they CREATED the cliches; at the time it was original, groundbreaking and, dare I say it, realistic. How much smarter is a tale of an entire galactic structure than a re-vamp of kids toys and comicbooks

  • @karanmaxfilms

My comparison was a response to SaypheZone said we should cite Avatar as a more revolutionary film than Citizen Kane, so i responded by saying that Orson Welles used his techniques to change how a films story could be told. The visual techniques in Avatar are impressive but they arent innovative in any way either in terms of visuals or storytelling. In fact, the techniques used in the Death Star trench run from Star Wars Episode IV were more revolutionary.

  • Really Good movie, it reflects what's happening with Murdoch and news of the world coincidentally

  • Can someone tell me WHY this is the best film ever?

  • @gravygwundud This is something like my favorite trailer ever. And about why is Kane best ever... well, it's such a boring question. I mean, people ask it when they're trying to look smart, to looks like they have their own opinion. Just read some book about cinema or some good-written review of Kane and you'll find out. These days is much more original to tell that Kane is not best ever than the truth, so there's no way you're original either.

  • What a boring trailer!

  • People describe watching this film as "a chore". It's only 2 hours long for gods sake, and its interesting enough for those hours to be justified.

  • Citizen Kane, Cabaret, Man of La Mancha = da bess

  • Great movie - unfortunately, not known among the X and Y generations...

  • Thumbs up if you're pissed that "Citizen Kane" didn't the win the Oscar!

  • @CuriousGeorgeMonkey9 Don't you just wish we could bring William Randolph Hearst back from the grave to kick him in the crotch for that?

  • @Luciusdeatheater William Randolph Hearst is the godfather of today's mainstream media. He deserves more than a kick in the crotch.

  • @CuriousGeorgeMonkey9 I personaly don't give a damn...

  • @CuriousGeorgeMonkey9 it is the greatest film of all time though

  • @KlayyJayy I absolutely agree. It's my favorite movie of all time, followed by "Casablanca" and "The Godfather".

  • Orson Welles voiced Unicron in the 1985 Transformers movie.

  • o meye God, ppl, this movi is so stuped. it is so boring and it in blak n wite and its just a bunch of old guys talkin. i fell sleep 5 mins into it it was so boaring. tis movy sucks.

  • @CHAOSin8bits If you are going to troll, do it right.

  • @Matthew9444 Lmao, I know, right?

  • @CHAOSin8bits LOL hey, you had an accident, little buddy... did you tip your bottle on your pants when you typed this? :3

TROLL FAIL~! (If you pissed anyone, they didn't respond to you. :P)

  • Who the fuck disliked this?

  • @kdddunn Michael Bay apologizes.

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperRedNova Not everyone can appreciate great art

  • @SuperRedNova Couldn't it have been your right nut instead. In fact, it could have been both.

  • well finally I managed to sit through the whole film (attempted many times before), and what a chore it was, Ok I can see where technically this film broke new ground with some interesting visuals,

but what a huge mess overall, endless shouting in annoying whiny voices, what the heck was that all about?, such a noisy film for absolutely no reason

it was kind of interesting in the beginning, but by the end the utter tedium was just too much, I wanted them all to die, not just Kane

  • @watchtheskies Haha I agree, the film was fantastic. Simply fantastic.

  • @watchtheskies Bias.

    It's a terrible thing. :P

  • Speaking of attractions.....

  • the greatest film of its time, but nowhere the best ever

  • This is the greatest film ever made, which doesn't necessarily mean the best. Being the greatest is very different than being the best.

Being the best has to do with quality, but that is very personal, since people have very different tastes and preferences. Being the best at something is very relative.

Now, being the greatest can be more easily measured because it involves other factors that go beyond being just good. It has to do with also with importance, influence, impact..

    Think about it.

  • Cotten's smile at 1:12 is epic.

  • boring...

  • The only way you could admit that this movie is the best film of all time, is if you've actually taken a film course that covers everything from story and plot, cinematography, composition, writing, directing, costume design, lighting, film history, and so on and so forth. Everything worked in this film; it's too bad the general public couldn't see it that way because of a lack of. . . well. . . the right education or exposure to what happens behind the film I guess you could say.

  • I've watched it four times now because I kept trying to remember why it is "The greatest movie ever made" I have now committed what I've learned to memory:

It is NOT the greatest movie ever made (probably not in my top 100)

  • @myrtlebox this movie is not intended for Big Mac eaters...thats all :D

  • @nickodemo1

This sounds racist or at least elitist; but his is consistent with the overzealous fan-base that this movie attracts.

I agree with hunterstobias below (as well as his reply from 1Blaircamp!). CK is a great movie. It may even have been arguably the 'best movie' at the time of release. But that was many movies ago. I'm not sure it makes any sense to rank movies unless categorized at the sub-sub-genre level. It's like picking the best Beatles song - IMPOSSIBLE!

  • @myrtlebox You have a top 100 movie list? Get the fuck out.

P.S. Not trying to start a fight; seriously, man, but what the hell? You're just bashing this for no apparent reason, lol. I don't really give a shit if it IS, or NOT, the best. It's all, ultimately, a matter of opinion.

P.S.S. Lmao, a top 100 movie list... xD

  • @GamerWatcher My mistake - not it my top 500 ;-)

  • i haven't watched this yet. it's really hard to find a copy!!!

  • @basstardize I just got it on Netflix

  • These were the grandest days of cinema. The greatest time in our history as a nation too. Well, maybe a little after this, when the war ended. BUT I think being alive now is even better, because we can watch this stuff, and the new stuff. :D

  • I just read that this is Roger Eberts favorite movie, and feel compelled to watch it, Not that I really share any tastes with Ebert, but still... What's this movie about?

  • @cKunke2 It follows the life of a newspaper tycoon named Charles Foster Kane. He has died and people are trying to figure out what his last spoken word, Rosebud, is supposed to mean. It's something of a sattire of William Randolph Hearst. It's a brilliant film and I strongly recommend watching it. But don't go into it expecting the greatest movie of all time like everyone else says or else you'll be rather dissapointed.

  • ROSEBUDDDDD?

  • To use a Video game analogy. Kane is like Half Life. It used storytelling techniques that now are commonplace but were unique at the time. Just as HL used in game events that are common now but were new at the time. It's sometimes hard to remember what games or movies were like before such ones were introduced.

  • Anyone from the current generation that says "Citizen Kane is the best film in the world, it's so deep, blah blah" is a plain liar. You're only saying that because you've been programmed to say that through pseudo-intellectuals saying this film is groundbreaking and a masterpiece. Yes it might have been groundbreaking AT THE TIME, but now it is just another decent film, nothing more, nothing less. It's not the best. The story isn't complicated, challenging. Socially it was just important.

  • @hunterstobias

the story isn't groundbraking true. But the cinematography, the acting etc.., were the main reasoins why this film was called the greatest movie ever made.Movies like The Godfather,Apocalypse now,etc.., are great great movie but aren't innovative when compared to citizen kane in terms of Camera wroks, acting(possible),everythibng about it isd was was better than cheap cinema today

Orsen welles made a masterpiece with his skills.Directors nowadays rely on special effects

  • @hunterstobias I completely agree with you. i think Citizen Kane is a great movie, one of the best and most influential films ever made. but best ever is just something people say to look inteligent.

  • God, I love this movie. It's 70 years old and still out-classes most movies made since.

  • 47 People thinks that Justin Bieber deserves an Oscar for his Perfomance in Never Say Never.

  • simply brilliant

  • citizen kane: how can i use special effects to show the audience a story?

avatar: how can i use a story to show the audience special effects?

transformers: how can i use money to make money?

  • @ManlySlut lol, if that! citizen kane - how can we tell a story using acting and directing skill?

  • @ManlySlut me: how can I worship your witty comment?

  • @ManlySlut one of the best descriptions ever...

  • @ManlySlut You have made the best youtube comment ever!

  • @ManlySlut piranha 3d: how can I use money to make one of the worst movies evahhh?

  • @ManlySlut brilliant comment, very true

  • @ManlySlut That is so true!

  • This trailer makes the movie look like a comedy.

  • Comment removed

  • i love how people used to speak to the audience in trailers...

  • I could pwn Orson Welles, see Venerdi Fornio on my Webzone, premering next week

  • Citzen Kayne iz tha Gayest film i eva seen.

It is this fat old bastard going on about a flower.

  • @jolIypiratedonuts He isn't talking about a flower

  • @jolIypiratedonuts Citizen Kane is actually bashing the richest person a that time William Randolph Hearst. (ever heard of san simeon, the most expensive private house in the us?) and it its the "best moving picture of all time because 95% of the scène actually have spécial effects and because it dose a resumé of film making from its debut to its end, thats why a nobody "like you" dose not get the grandiosity of this film!

  • A film of sheer brilliance :)

  • one one the greatest films of the 1940s!!!!!!!!!

  • Actually, responding to DGamer21, "Rosebud" was used in reference to Hurst's wife's crotch, and all of Hollywood new about this. It was a joke that everyone would have understood at that time.

Also responding to JOSKE, yes, he had an awesome career until 25. Unfortunately for him, he went broke shortly after and struggled his entire life, only to never live up to his first movie. Before he died he was quoted saying that he wished he wouldn't have wasted his life trying to make movies after CK

  • Bill gates

  • Bill gates

  • This movie was boring as shit...

  • lets see...

Mr Welles mastered theatre by 18, radio by the age of 22 (with the infamous 'War of the Worlds' broadcast), and film by the age of 25, giving us the ultimate movie masterpiece on his first try...

ladies and gentlemen, we suck in comparison :)

  • @JOSKE123100 Yes, it is truly incredible.

  • kane was the story of the rockefeller and rothschilds of this world. welles takes something frighteningly ugly like ruthless mercenary lust for power and turns it into chic art. kane is undoubtedly one of the most definitive pieces of works in any genre.

  • Rosebud is the sled that charles used when he was a kid. Ha ha just spoiled the movie for you assholes.

  • @Dgamer21 I hope your mom dies of cancer, that your dad gets curbed stomped, and that you be hung by you testicles until dead.
