@patd804 I don't know how important the Clash were politically. They certainly had some political material in their music. However, there's many more artists who have contributed politically than The Clash. U2, John Mellencamp and Bob Geldof just to name a few.
@yeahitzmeeh great attitude to have. im glad some of the young can cut thru the crap . i can only imagine what you have to endure. the default soundtrack for your life is deplorable , you have to proactively seek out good music. I hope you listen to The Jam also. "Down in the Tube Station at Midnight" is one of my favorites-you need to hear it! keep it up!
Super fun, thanks, been stuck on the Clash forever, and hard lately, Toots still owns this song though, the Barrymore Theater in Madison a few years back, damn.
Reminds me of what true music was and is. Integrity, intelligence and inspiration all rolled into one. Just listening to the clash shows you how much music has deteriorated in the past few decades. You can't look to music for the qualities listed above anymore.
@ShakinToBeatles debatable yeah, they were a pop band and yes changed the way music will be made and the lifestyle but apart from that what did they make happen?
@Generation1Terrorist i believe we died in WW2 man reincarnation into a different body same soul no recollection which is why the music culture and everything about a different time appeals to us

fucking love it ...when I wuz a wee punk (age 11) through the Clash and watching Revolver on BBC 2 I got into Reggae...2 of the 70's most working class full on musicical styles that had something to say (and still do) in a sea of mediocre pop shite
@angstgoose It's sad that so few people listen to old reggae, ska, and punk. Now they just listen to whatevr is trendy, it's sad that 14 year olds aren't smarter than that.
@brethren133697 I wasn't so smart at 14 but from 14 to 44 year olds, its so crap how many people rate their music on Idols / X Factor stylee muzak. We all got internet, dig deep and there's some amazing music to find, not just what the record companies tout.
What is sad is amazing DIY bands slog away for years and never get any recognition and some we 'cock' wins X-factory and makes millions : ) oh I am a bitter old man

@maconTHC : are you out of your mind? One of the GREATEST covers ever! The Clash were one of those bands that made excellent covers--- Police and Thieves is another great example!
this picture of strummer's memorial is the 2nd most recognized picture in punk rock'n'roll. The first? the London Calling album cover. R.I.P Joe, you changed the world
I remember seeing Mick Jones quite a few years ago (i'm 19 now) At Kings Cross or Victoria station I can't remember really, I was only visiting London. I was too scared to go and speak to him, even though he knew someone as young as me (13 at the time) had spotted him he carried on walking! I thought he would have been happy to see a fan so young and so many years later still playing the clash!
The DJs in my favorite bar in Va. Beach would play this in the early '80s, & the whole crowd would sing the "AHHHHH Oh Yeah " parts. Brings back many drunken memories!
If you liked Pressure Drop; you have to hear Steven Sparks do his version. Drummer Paulie does justice with his vocals. Paulie will be going back to Jamaica in Feb to collaborate with Yummi Bare.
When I heard The Clash play this (my first hearing) in 1986 I was amazed by how this was such a shift of style, such a great rendition, such a great dispaly of musical talent. This foreshadows London Calling for sure!
