I also see that most of these people are higher functioning. They are able to talk and accept the skin shock. That's also a fundamental difference between autistic kids like mine and these people. I don't see true severe autism in most of the people here using skin shock. u have to treat severe autism very delicately.Applying shocks to my son because he didn't turn left or right would not be helpful. For him, skin shock would be purely acute temporay intervention based on his unique profile.
I support JRC's courage to handle autistics the cowards leaves behind, I do think this progam would not be healthy for my son, since he's also medically fragile and does need meds for seizure activity. And, he likes to take 3-4 baths and walk obsessively outside in his route. If that were denied to him, it would trigger further SIB, that would lead to more skin shocks. Handling my son's type of SIB requires respecting his right to do what he wants (except self-punching) w/o shock. that's tricky.
I don't see skin shock therapy any more aversive or evil than those who on "autisticplanet" using the ALPHA STIM for pain and suffering. Well, when an autistic person is held captive to insane brutal self abuse, that is suffering. And if every method to help the child FAILS any rational sane caring human would use skin shock as an acute temporary therapy within a comprehensive therapy plan. Duh. Get over it folks. JRC is dealing with kids/adults that you anti aversives would let die or ignore.
