@moo300000 basically if it goes fast enough towards you the light waves appear to become squashed and shorter, because each wave is starting closer to you by a greater distance than the previous wave has moved away (sorry its kinda hard to put into words)

this makes it red shift and not blue shift because red is short wavelength colour

speed doesn't define whether or not something is red its rather velocity (speed with a direction) and if something is moving away from you then its red shifted where as blue is because it is moving towards you.

@FailSafe96 Its pretty mch doppler effect but with the colors. Doppler effect is when say youre yelling while running. Well If a person were to stand beside and listen to you while you were running acros them, before you run byit will sound different than when you run past. Thats because the sound waves are bunched up infront of you. It's basically the same with colors.If youre running at almost the speed of light then before you run across you would look blue but when you are past you look red.

@laxrat25 when on object moves away from the veiwer fast enough, the light waves distort, and it is veiwed as being red. An object nearing the veiwer distorts the light waves to blue. Ask your science teacher for a better explanation, though. :)
