I believe I can safely say that you guys can read my mind. . . This is literally the Strat I have been dreaming of. . . Fender should put out a non-reliced production model for about two grand, so us mere mortals could have a shot at owning one haha
I'm sorry. Most of us working musicians who actually gig wouldn't spend the kind of money they want for these high end things, just to take it out to a gig and risk having beer spilled on it, possibly knocked over, etc. Who do they make these things for? Collectors? The stars even have these things things given to them to make the rest of us want one.
LOL...We all know that's not true. I'm blessed to be playing for a living and carry either my '56 strat or '65 335 to every gig/session/lesson. They'll both out-live me and I wouldn't dream of replacing them with a relic. The relics "came about" because guitar players like to pose. I've been there, too, and we're all guilty. If somebody wants a vintage sounding Fender or Gibson style guitar I recommend G&L or Heritage. Fender and Gibson are working really hard to make up for lost time.....
Personally I dig the relicing. I own two of them. The necks on a the Custom Shop Relics are absolutely fantastic. I bet most of the guys that bash relics have never played a custom shop relic.
Holy shit!.....anyone fancy remortgaging their house and giving me the money!!!???.....I bet these go for top dollars. Though it's nice to see a guitar company using their time and money productively rather than releasing a bunch of awful, gimmicky, poorly thought out guitars.......are you listening Gibson!!!!
There has been 'relicing' in furniture making for years, it's called distressing. Why is everyone getting all ape shit about adding an old look to guitars. Custom Shop guitars PLAY awesome and that's all that matters in the end. I can't afford one either...
Yeah, I'm still not really getting the relic look.
I've certainly never seen a guitar with worn paintwork and thought to myself, "Woahhh, look at THAT guitar! The chipped paint looks awesome...and oh my god, that scratch down side is simply spectacular! Must have!"
Might as well sell them looking new and supply a small chisel with the purchase. That'd let whoever wanted a scrappy looking guitar give it the personal touch.
Wow. Im not big on the whole heavy relic thing really nor am I a fender fan but id say these sound and feel good. I like light relic's and wants gibson to do a SG relic!!
i like the relic look to an extent, like aged plastic and mild paint treatment, but the aged hardware just isnt for me. but if you wanna pay 3700 for that, just buy a squier and give me 3700. ill beat it up so bad itll never play again lol
One of my friends got a 59' Body/60' Neck refin strat that's all original except the finish (which was refin'd well sometime in the late 60's). It plays and sounds like a dream. How'd this guitar seem against a real late 50's Strat? The price is pretty compelling, but its a little overly relic'd for me. This 59' is in significantly better condition.

Actually the relics came about due to the fact that working musicians didn't want to take their vintage guitars to gigs.

It seems like Fender had piles of old rusting parts and didn't know what to do with them, ..till now.

TheFrozenLads 2 years ago
depends really. if your a strat guy its the 54, if your a les paul guy its the 59. I know some sg fans that love the 63 and thats their holy grail.

Is the face of the headstock set deeper to accommodate the lack of string trees, or are the staggered tuners alone, enough?

Strats do look better all beaten up, Just a pitty you have to pay $3,700 for that look. :O)
LIGHTMAN004 2 years ago 8
you could just get one with the nitro finish and beat it up
Erock09291 2 years ago
go buy a cheap one, and beat it up, then clear coat it.
Metalhead12828 2 years ago 5
Yep, that's what I'd do.. Not to dheap though, would want a something that plays well. Sand it in places, and knock it about a it.
LIGHTMAN004 2 years ago
yeah, same here. i never saw the point in buying things that look damaged. like ripped jeans. theres no point
Metalhead12828 2 years ago 4
same. i can do THAT myself for free!
