Vanos is practically a copy of vtec, and there have been significantly higher failure rate in vanos than vtec units. classmate e36 is nothing but a money pit, he dropped over 13k in repairs to date(including "rock solid" vanos) and still cant beat me on the track days.

How is vanos a copy of that, vanos shifts or retracts both cam shafts independently, in effect advancing the valve timing on an analogue scale.
