If you're in a situation where grabbing the gun is the last resort, you should learn how to properly grab it, or accept that the hand you use, is going to be useless for the rest of the fight.

Wrong. If you grap a semi-auto holding the barrel hard so that if he fires while the gun is off line, the gun will not load another bullet. Now you have a an auto without a round in the chamber.
Now, as this is a semi-auto pistol, why would you risk damage to your hand and fingers in the event he fires a "miss"? The moment of hesitation you would experience when the metal of the gun tears your hand open would likely leave you susceptible to being shot to death.

I've been doing krav maga for a year and a half and am an orange testing in a few weeks for a green belt! This is by far the best martial art, its pure defense. These disarms are what they teach to state troopers and THEY WORK!!! These videos also are helping me while im training with a buddy at home to use as a refernce to the moves for correct form. Slide gun, the gun will still fire, he's not gripping the hammer, he will only prevent the pistol from reloading properly, if gun is fired, the power of that bullet is going to be redirected back to the slide for reloading, (gas operated automatic) will hurt hand quite well, maybe not as much tho if you were in the path of the bullet when it went down, lol.

For the revolver, if you trap your finger between the hammer and the gun, it cann't fire (will hurt abit' but much less than a bullet wound)
Alright, bullshit alert @2:30 a semi automatic WILL fire even if you hold on to the slide dependeng on your grip it might not repeat but if the gun is cocked and a round loaded into the firing chamber it will discharge as soon as the hammer strikes the firing pin. A firm grip around the slide will NOT prevent it from firing its just possible that it will prevent it from repeating . If think that gripping the barrel jams the entire mechanism you might be a candidate for the darwin award, sorry

@Dingo4evah Actually, it would not. Where I learnt this? From faulty gas operated automatic rifles. If the shit don't go back, its just becomes a bolt action rifle, gota cock after every shot. The only thing that causes the automatic cocking of the weapon is expanding gas, which is USUALLY tuned with the gas release mechanism to be just enough to cock it and ready in the shortest time possible (yes, you can adjust the firing rate of automatics), This also reduces unwanted recoil.
What you have to remember is that this defense would occur in probably less than a second, the attacked would be stunned just from the movement speed and he would be on the ground restrained before he even another shot.
@SuperURBIN With a semi automatic pistol, the gun will fire once if your holding the slide firmly, and the slide will not cycle. This means, after the one shot, you can't shoot again until you manually rack the slide and cycle a new round into the chamber. But a double action revolver can keep firing unless your holding down the cylinder. And the heat of the barrel is not an issue. It's a handgun. You're not holding the barrel of a machine gun with a thousand round belt. Hope this helped.
I can tell you why this may not work. If you grab that gun the way he did, and he fires it, the bullet may miss you, but the recoil will still operate the slide on the gun and tear the fuck out of your hand. I AM POSITIVE THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON WOULD LET GO OF IT AT THAT POINT UNLESS YOU ARE THIS GUY. At that point this attacker would continue to shoot you. If they had a revolver, this technique would probably work very well.

"Slide" guns will always fire if there's one in the chamber, which there will be if the attacker has if ready to fire when he attacks you. The slide, or top half of the gun, doesn't have to cycle or move back to make the gun fire, it's the gun firing that makes the slide cycle. So in that situation the gun WILL fire.
This is like a game of chess, so many thing's to consider.... but when I run away I'll make sure I'll never drop the weapon in a situation like that! I'd end up on Fail Blog if I did..lol.

I don't believe it. You would have to grab it extremely hard to hold it while firing. The only luck you may have is to cause a jam up after the first shot because the slide didn't operate properly while holding it.

@Dingo4evah Actually, it would not. Where I learnt this? From faulty gas operated automatic rifles. If the shit don't go back, its just becomes a bolt action rifle, gota cock after every shot. The only thing that causes the automatic cocking of the weapon is expanding gas, which is USUALLY tuned with the gas release mechanism to be just enough to cock it and ready in the shortest time possible (yes, you can adjust the firing rate of automatics), This also reduces unwanted recoil.

What you have to remember is that this defense would occur in probably less than a second, the attacked would be stunned just from the movement speed and he would be on the ground restrained before he even another shot.

@SuperURBIN With a semi automatic pistol, the gun will fire once if your holding the slide firmly, and the slide will not cycle. This means, after the one shot, you can't shoot again until you manually rack the slide and cycle a new round into the chamber. But a double action revolver can keep firing unless your holding down the cylinder. And the heat of the barrel is not an issue. It's a handgun. You're not holding the barrel of a machine gun with a thousand round belt. Hope this helped.

I can tell you why this may not work. If you grab that gun the way he did, and he fires it, the bullet may miss you, but the recoil will still operate the slide on the gun and tear the fuck out of your hand. I AM POSITIVE THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON WOULD LET GO OF IT AT THAT POINT UNLESS YOU ARE THIS GUY. At that point this attacker would continue to shoot you. If they had a revolver, this technique would probably work very well.

"Slide" guns will always fire if there's one in the chamber, which there will be if the attacker has if ready to fire when he attacks you. The slide, or top half of the gun, doesn't have to cycle or move back to make the gun fire, it's the gun firing that makes the slide cycle. So in that situation the gun WILL fire.

I don't believe it. You would have to grab it extremely hard to hold it while firing. The only luck you may have is to cause a jam up after the first shot because the slide didn't operate properly while holding it.

ummmmm that guns still gonna fire, regardless being a "slide" gun or automatic. assuming your attacker racked the slide and has one in the chamber, that gun will still go boom, if you hold the slide it cant chamber another round but most likely that slide will cut you with teh sights and youll let go from shock and hotness

it sounds cool, but the guy has a finger on the trigger and you are holding a moving part of the gun. As soon as it fires your hand is no longer holding anything.

any pistol will still fire a round even if the slide is restricted. all the slide action does is eject the spent casing and load a new bullet in the chamber. either way he is right keep the barrel away.

wrong sir! an automatic handgun will fire with your hand over the slide it is possible to prevent the pistol from chambering another round, however your hand over the slide will do nothing if a bad guy has a round already chambered.
