What a song. I've seen them do this four times and it never ceases to amaze me with it's power. Chuck Berry meets West Side Story. R.I.P. Big Man, we feel your spirit on the tour coming up.
How can anybody come close to re-creating that? That reaches really deep down inside where no other music goes. It was a true privilege to have witnessed that in Hyde Park and will be with me until I die. Forever in my heart 'Big Man'. A massive hole that will never be filled.
I can never listen to this song without crying anymore. It absolutely destroys me, just like the first time I ever heard it and the moment I fell in love with this beautiful band, and it's music.
Does anyone have an idea who is gonna replace (can he be replaced?) the big man for the upcoming european tour of the e-street band? can`t wait to see them again but still it`s weird first Danny this year Clarence, as i`m getting older my childhood heroes are starting to die sadly...
@volbeatnl "The Big Man" can never be replaced, Bruce will find a great sax player, but it won't be the same... I used to scoff at it when Nils joined the band, but he fit in perfectly, after a couple of back flips in the 1984 Born in the USA tour and he became our man too, Danny's loss was terrible, but to lose Clarence is almost unthinkable, but he'll be with Bruce back to back on the 2012 tour, you can count on it!
i grew up listening to bruce springsteen with my mom on car rides. I always liked it. But, for the past couple of years I haven't been listening to him. Now that I am watching all of these videos, it really makes me sad that Clarence Clemons passed away. Rest In Peace Big Man. Everybody will miss you. It makes me cry to know your beautiful music from your saxaphone will not be created anymore.
Pure raw undulated ecstasy - totally spine chilling - goose bumps - utterly magical - no words can surppress the feeling "The Boss" into this unbelievable song. One of the greatest he's ever done.
Just wondering could anyone think that the 2 solos, guitar and sax, were like voices of A) the Rat or B) the barefoot girl? Im doing an analysis on this song and I want to think that but I'm not entirely sure so thoughts would be appreciated!! :D
Many people take different messages from this song, and a lot of people think its a lot about patriotism. While I love America, I think his real purpose for this song was that some things, just have to be how they are. I think everyone needs to know that Clarence's untimely death is something that we can't change, but his soul lives on in the music. He's up there in the clouds, so don't let him look down and see everybody sad. By the way My reacton to this video: INCREDIBLE
@KMmusicman I don't know about patriotism, the references in the song are very specific to New Jersey and New York and would not apply elsewhere in the country. Maybe a kind of love story between the "Rat" and the "Barefoot girl" amid the gang/organized crime culture backdrop. At the end of the song he points out how people in the area turn a blind eye to the corruption culture instead of trying to clean it up. I'm from NJ, and was always under the impression that New Jersey is Jungleland.
@Repo287 You make some great points. Growing up in Boston as a Bruce fanatic, I was always aware of the New Jersey and New York Connection and references. But to me Jungleland is a city/town/place where people will turn a blind eye and silent mouth to what they see going wrong around them. And in the desperation of the situation rather than choose to break out of their condition, they follow the same behavior of those around them.
@ChuckSnow5 -That can happen in any city (Southie and Whitey Bulger... I'm looking at you.) I don't want to take anything from those fans from the New Jersey/New york area, but like every great song that resonates in the human heart, it is about, and belongs, to everyone.
Gracias Clarence, por todo lo dado y aportado. Esta banda es mágica y sin tí, está un poquito más cerca del final al que ninguno queremos que llegue. Haz disfrutar a los ángeles con tu música. Bruce...no te mueras nunca!!
Ok, so you've got John Lennon, George Harrison, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Keith Moon, Elvis and now Clarence Clemons....What kind of band are you working on God?
I had the great luck and fortune to meet Clarence for a few very brief moments during the premiere of his documentary 'Who Am I?', just two months before his passing. The Big Man was on crutches, moved slowly, almost tenderly, the pain was so obvious, yet he was a tower of strength and spirit, his smile shining through with his grace and kindness to all beside it. Thanks and bless you for all you have done and given us, CC. RIP.
This is the best performance of this live I have ever seen. Big Man rest in peace my brother. If you want to capture what the greatest band that ever played together just take a listen to this.
To give you an idea of what this band and Clarence Clemons means to my home state - the Governor ordered flags in New Jersey to be flown at half mast following his death.. Thank you for everything Clarence, Jungleland won't be the same without you.
This was a brilliant hot night, in London in 2009, it was the most amazing atmosphere, Brillliant Bruce and the E Street Band. Miss Clarence loads, very much you had so much to give and gave loads to the Music world and to Bruce and the band and everything else,RIP brilliant Clarence from all of us
"We were united, we were strong, we were righteous, we were unmovable, we were funny, we were corny as hell and as serious as death itself. And we were coming to your town to shake you and to wake you up."- Bruce Springsteen
Every time I listen to this song I get goosebumps. Clarence will be so sorely missed, surely no other sax player can play this song like this. Rest in Peace, Big Man.
God Bless you clarence... I never thought I'd get emotional to a musician leaving us but between you and the Boss I never thought I'd experience this. I love you and what you gave to us. He is the reason I play a wind instrument! When I was 8 years old my parents took me to the Born to Run tour concert in Dallas. It changed my world. He changed my whole world. I miss the Big Man already! :(
I was blessed to see you Clarence perform live at this performance, my one & only opportunity, and for that I will be eternally grateful. Music has lost a true musician. Thank you for every note you blew Clarence you will be sorely missed
The greatest sax player ever so glad i got to see him and the E Street Band a few years ago. My biggest dream was to meet Clarence. guess i will have to wait til i get to heaven
The greatest musicians ever lived. EVER. And, unfortunately, died. Forever in our hearts, forever missed. Clarence forever. The E Street Band forever.
I saw the Band NINE times in 2009 in the USA. It will NEVER be the same again. Lots of tears flowing listening to the Big Man's solo. Rest in Peace, Brother.........
I had the great experience to see him with the Boss and the whole E-Street Band two years ago, playing the solo in Jungleland. Thank you for these goosebumping moments.
that great sax player will be missed on earth ........but thanks to those like you (these videos), our memories and love for C.C.'s music and warm personality will live on Forever. Thank You! My heart cries, my soul dies, just for a few moments, but to relive thru your videos all we seen and heard in concert thru out the years......I give thanks to you 19eagle81! Thank YOU!
" And the change was made in time and the big man joined the band". Now from the gates to the throne all the angels wave their hands. RIP big man. You will be missed. God bless.
Great artists never work alone and it was a combination of outstanding talent that helped to deliver a singular talent like Springsteen to this world. Clarence you were a towering part of that talented edifice and your contribution will never be forgotten; you will be sorely missed but much appreciated and loved by all those who were moved by your music. Thank you.
“London Calling: Live in Hyde Park” is a full concert video of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in their “Working on a Dream Tour” performance of June 28, 2009, at the Hard Rock Calling music festival in Hyde Park, London.
"If you believe in forever then life is just a one-night stand. If there's a rock and roll heaven, well you know they've got a hell of a band" The Righteous Brothers...that hell of a band just got a hell of a lot better. RIP Big Man!
From the churches to the jails, tonight all is silent in the world - we're all listening for you Big Man. Play your sax loud and strong so we all know you're okay. Together again with Danny, make some sweet music. With an aching heart, you are and will forever be sorely missed.
Heaven was needing a new sax player.... and they just got the best. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us, Big Man. You are already missed here on Earth.... and to Bruce, the band, Clarence's family and friends, know this... your grief is shared by millions. Take comfort in this during these painful days.
I only ever got to see you once and it was at this very gig, I was 17. It was a pleasure to behold, whenever you were playing the crowd cheered even louder for you. Seeing this song live is still the singest best thing I have ever experienced live. Thank you for the beautiful solos, wide smile and incredible sense of humour, you truly are the King of the Sax and are sorely missed by music fans around the world.
I'll raise a glass of Jack to Clarence Clemons the reigning king of the Sax and crank up my much beloved Born to Run LP. The E Street Band could never have been as great as they have been without him. Bruce has been the Boss but Clarence was the Soul of the band.
Quite simply Bruce's best song

R.I.P. Big man... One of the greatest saxplayers in rock history...

Thank you.

This is not exactly my kind of music, and I know next to nothing about sax players.
But even I can tell, that a truly Big Man is gone.

I can hardly watch this without getting choked up for Clarence.
I can't think of another sax solo so powerful, so soulful than this, the Big Man's masterpiece.

Hey Big Man,
I only ever got to see you once and it was at this very gig, I was 17.
RIP Clarence Clemons, cya in Jungleland <3 x

I'll raise a glass of Jack to Clarence Clemons the reigning king of the Sax and crank up my much beloved Born to Run LP. The E Street Band could never have been as great as they have been without him. Bruce has been the Boss but Clarence was the Soul of the band.
