@glenwomble agreed! And that point didn't escape me. We just relaunched a much more useful product. It's still early and in v.1 beta, but I think you may find it way more interesting. Let me know! T
I loved this and can totally relate to much of what was said. And to @qstyk - taking big risks & going for it will usually seem "reckless" to those who prefer to be comfortable. There's no right or wrong - just personal preferences and choices that we each make.
I really wanted to like this speech, but I disagree with at least 80% of the assumptions it was founded on. What she calls 'all in,' I call reckless. I'm all for red-lining it to knock something loose, but when you're going to be kicked to the curb and you've driven your son away, it's time to cut your losses. I think this speech was her seeking validation for her choices in life, not an attempt to educate.
@qstyk Just an FYI...I didn't 'drive my son away' - He's 18 and moved out to go to California where he followed his own dreams. He's actually pretty proud of me. :)
I believe there is a certain level of recklessness that is necessary for venturing into unchartered waters. I've never lost a bet on my gut before. I was told recently, "The difference between successful and unsuccessful entrepreneurs is that the successful ones hung in there."
Honest. From the heart and soul. Yes yes yes. It's the passion and vision to be something awesome no matter what the result. This is the gymnasium where we work out and refine ourselves as human beings. The law of karma is that there will be great results... they may not be the results YOU have in mind right now. But you can be sure something awesome will come of this.
At most times it seems hopeless to be an entrepreneur, there is a glimmer of hope in audacity. In the end the sun comes out from behind the clouds, and shines hope on the hopeless. With the quote from Tara and Apple, "And it's the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, who actually do!" brilliant finish.
As I was watching and listening I thought of the poem by Shel Silverstein, "Invitation" the first time I experienced it was listening to a CD and when I heard it I thought, I am the "magic bean buyer" and now that I listen to Tara, entrepreneurs are magic bean buyers.
"I don't think entrepreneurs can be made. You can't learn to be an entrepreneur. You can learn to be a good business person, you can learn how to sell, how to code...but it's those fundamental and innate characteristics that are going to prepare you for the roller coaster that you have in front of you..and that you cannot learn.; they have to be innate.
Those are: Delusion, desire to change the status quo, and sheer and utter audacity.
Maybe instead of pitching 100s of potential investors, she should build a product that people want to use.

I didn't enjoy most of the speech.

a quote from the poem.
. . . If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer . . .
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire

Much better to see the video than reading the speech! Way to nail it!
