Hey love your vids :) stop by and look at my 90 gallon peacock tank drop a comment of what u like and what I could do better it help me out a ton thanks and keep the vids coming!!!
@AnthonyPrimmer thanks man i appreciate that. i like your peacock tank if i were you id put a background on that tank but im not sure if your using the light from the window for your plants either.
I added my second blue zebra to my 20 gallon yesterday and they immedietly starting locking mouths and swimming around eachother. Is that mating behavior for cichlids? Right now I got two blue zebras, one albino zebra, a yellow lab, and an auratus or however you spell it. They are very young and all 1 inch or smaller im getting a 55 gallon in a few weeks
@Fx4Ranger2002 that's awesome too hear. That is not breeding. Cichlids fight a lot more with the same species rather than another colored cichlid. So they are fighting too figure out who's boss. Females can be quite aggresive as well but I have never seen them fight with a male unless the male wasn't dominate at all. Do they look the same. Also at one inch there not sexual mature. Around 2.5 inches you'll see breeding. That 55 will be awesome
@cichlidmania26 Yeah my 20 gallon is pretty cramped. I also got a Pacu in there that I need to find a new home for soon. I may just take him to the local pet shop. I got him when he was the size of a half dollar two months ago now hes almost 6 inches long. He doesnt bother the cichlids though. Could Jewel cichlids go in with my africans since they are considered africans? I will probably put 20-25 cichlids total in the new 55 as well as some river rocks and artificial plants to provide cover
I agree with what you say about stable ph and husbandry skills, however the waters of Malawi, Tanganyika, and Victorinia are neither soft, nor acidic. Also keep in mind many fish for sale online are wild caught.
@nyraider63 ya I agree too. At the moment I don't have any f1s anymore do too someone else taking over my system while moved and focused all my energy on a custody battle. Long story. But ya my water is back on track now. I notice the captive breed fish are more sustainable too up and down paramenters than the f1.
You have African and South American cichlids together, which is a bad idea, The PH requirements of the different types of Cichlids makes them incompatible.
@nyraider63 ur point? They can tolerate it. The mayan cichlid in there can live in the ocean if he I wanted him too. He's. 15 years old. So u tell me if I'm doing something wrong?
@cichlidmania26 Yeah, "they can tolerate it", but it doesn't mean it's the best for them.
That's like saying that you could live your entire life eating only TV dinners and drinking only Coca Cola... Sure, you might be able to do it and be "fine", but you can't deny that you'd be much better off eating fresh vegetables, and meats (if you're not a vegetarian, etc).
So I'm not necessarily saying that what you're doing is "wrong", but it's certainly not something I would do, or suggest.
@seth570123. Yes I agree too. If you watch my videos you will see I don't hold onto south american very long at all. They come too me from people who don't want them. Than I try and find them homes or take them to the pet store. But yes I know they can't. But what do you do when u don't have any power left to make there tank requierments. Plus I'm just going to get rid of them anyway. But ya I understand where you guys are coming from.
@cichlidmania26 Now I see where you're coming from. Maybe if I would have watched some of your other videos like you had mentioned I would have understood, but from this video's title, description, and the comment you left the other person, it would have simply appeared that these were all your personal fish and how you planned to keep them until they died or what have you...
Sorry for jumping to conclusions, but with what I had initially been presented, I had no way of knowing otherwise...
@seth570123 thanks bro... ya don't get me wrong you are right but ya I perfer african cichlids over south american cichlids. But thanks for understanding. I knew that title of that video was going too get me into trouble lol. I should change the title soon. Well take care and thanks for commenting.
@nyraider63,not tryn to argue just educate, if not you maybe some other reader. because animals survive does not mean they are being kept properly. dont take my word ask the pros.
@nyraider63 RE:"You have African and South American cichlids together, which is a bad idea, The PH requirements of the different types of Cichlids makes them incompatible."
I think this is less of a problem than a lot of people realize. For example Angels Plus has been breeding and raising angelfish for years in local water which is rather harder and more alkaline than is natural for them. Many fish are perfectly happy and healthy in water nothing like their natural habitat.
@nyraider63 RE: "it is far from" the way you should keep them"
The fact that a fishes native habitat is soft, acid water does not, IMO, automatically mean that domesticated fish of the same species should always be kept in those water conditions. I think it's desirable to acclimate domestic fish to live and breed in the local water conditions if possible. A stable PH and good husbandry practices are more important. And a slightly alkaline, moderately hard water is much easier to keep stable.
great looking tank! but maybe you should change the title? not only are you mixing african cichlids from different lakes? you are also mixing south american cichlids?
@kevinrsp thoes two big rocks I made out of a huge pumcie rock. I cut it in half wth a hot saw and drilled holes in it. Each roack weighs like 90 lbs and actually floats. Its nuts. So I have too weigh them down so they don't float around my tank lol
sry for spamming your channel but u have a really good set up & seem to know what ur doing^^. the tank had oscars(slobs) haha! in it b4 and was only changed over 2 days ago. so the tank is now empty & i'm ready to put the sand in, i have some bog wood witch was in before but unsure if this will add to the ph etc etc..As i said before any help would be great as i wish to keep cichlids. ty in advance. DM.
@drunkanmaster that would be perfect. It will help keep the ph nice and high which will make the colors in the fish pop a lot more. But yeah if I had the money I would do my cichlid tank up that way. Sorry about your dad. But that would be a nice little touch to your tank. Good luck. If you have more questions than just ask. Take care
@drunkanmaster hey its all good. I'm still not even close to my system being done. But I'm not too familar with the wood in the tank. I have a few friends with it and they havnt said much about it. I've heard it colors your water but I think that's. From not cleaning it or maybe a different type of wood. Your fine it won't affect your water quality. When r u going to post a video of it?
@drunkanmaster . YO CICHLIDMANIA . like said before my tank is now empty just waiting for new floor in living room ^_^ . so i can fill up the tank!. I think the coral will look good just thinking at the mo if to add a little lave rock to break up the white?. U think i should go lava rock at bottom an coral @ the top to break up the white?. your cichlids look awsome.he he. been looking at some tropeops red shoulder, electric yellow/blue lab.will post vid wen rdy:) DM.
i have some old coral its about 10 years old. My dad had it in marine tank( the white stuff), its not live obviously. I have put it into a bucket and left it in there for a week and tested the PH & getting readings of 7.6 - 7.8. I have a 4ft fish tank that is empty & is a tropical set up with a eheim filter system. Can i put this coral in the tank as i lost my dad 8year ago & want it in there. I like the malawi cichlids will these be ok?. I am a noob to this. Any advice would b great ty.
@poooosalz I've always liked the the oscars just never wanted to try and keep them. There slobs. Lol thanks man I do pay a lot of attention to my setup
what!!!! Why would you have that in your garage?!?!?!? Gosh you need to put that in your living room man.....beecause right now your not enjoying itas much as if it were in your living room.....gosh that tank is awesome and there is no way I would have that in my garage!!!!
thanks man. I use to have it hooked up at my old house's living room. And than pulmed it through the walls to my garage but I moved. I can't do it here. Itsw easier this way. And I have 3 and a half car garage so its like a living room in there.
@cichlidmania26 Ok I'm sorry its just my garage....I would not want my fish in there but ya I know what you mean because when you do water changes that is a lot of water to change. My dentist has a 400 gallon african cichlid aquarium....its awesome it kind of looks like yours.....except a lot bigger
How do you tell from a male and a female I have 7 african cichlids
