This is some of the most intriguing material I've heard since the days when Lost was still good. We begin to get a partial picture for the first time of the interactions among the forces pulling our strings.
I am especially interested in the idea that the G-man is a businessman, perhaps without an agenda of his own (certainly not fully allied with the Combine, Breen, or the Vorts), a procurer of assets who, in Gordon's case, has "agreed to abide by certain restrictions." Fascinating stuff.
Michael Shapiro's performance in this scene makes for the most sinister music. So much nuance: "your... friends, huh", "crow!-bar", "when-I-plucked-her", "f-father."
Just after a break, the room goes dark. The crowd is silent for a time, expecting something... but after 10 seconds of nothing, they start to grow unruly, thinking there might be a glitch backstage.
Another 10 seconds pass... then... "Doctor Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeman...."
@the997super That would be the worst thing to do, Gman must stay unexplained. That's why he's so cool, you don't know who he is or what he wants and as far as you know he is invincible and that's great that way.
@badvoodo0 - no way!!!! If they make Gordon talk it will ruin the game for me. Isaac talking in dead space 2 kinda ruined it for me. Only because the best part of having a character that doesn't talk you can never know what he is thinking or his emotions. Which gives a great blank slate to transfer what ever you are personally feeling into that character. It let's you have your own thoughts of the situation instead of them being provided for you. That's why I don't want Gordon to talk.

Half life - call of duty. I'm so tired of that series. The fans are too blind to realize it has turned into the madden of first person shooters. Valve might not be the absolute best dev team, but they do a lot better than treyarch, Ea, ect.

@bbenjoe If you're referring to the stutter before he says "father", it's really nothing. G-Man seems to stutter and have strange sentence pattern all over the place. Especially in the first half-life. It's really strange. And every once in a while he'll sound like he's sucking up some spit that drooled out of his mouth. Old dudes...

By the way, I hope the G-Man's identity will be revealed in time, considering his powers and his doings, he is really mysterious. Appereantly he is not aging.
@darkplanetjohnson64 That, or he's a representative of another extra terrestrial/dimintional civilization, or a collection of said civilizations, who want to force the Combine Overworld's forces to Earth ( Cause of the rebellion ) so that the G-man's Race('s) can engage them in the safety of an already doomed world they care nothing for as aposed to staging an intersteller battle on thier home front(s).
Notice how Dr. Breen appears for a brief second when the G-Man says "naysayers". And note how Breen tells Freeman his contract is open to the highest bidder. Coincidece?
Episode Two confirmed that the G-man was the one who provided Black Mesa with sample GG-3883 (the Xen Crystal that caused the Resonance Cascade). Also, in HL1, one of the scientists says that "the administrator (Breen) went to some lengths to get the sample." It seems likely that Breen and G-man struck some sort of deal over the sample at Black Mesa. Maybe the G-man didn't even ask for anything in return. Maybe the occurrence of the Resonance Cascade was reward enough for him.

the reason there was no gman sightning in the beginning was becuse the vorts uses a powerfull force to stop gman to communicate with gordon but in this scene the vorts where to busy healing alyx so thats why gman was sighted in that scene
Gman has to be one of the only peoplein avideo game who creeps you out, fills you with anxious happiness, and makes you wonder WTF IS UP WITH THIS GUY all at once. And he talks cool.
I'm guessing you used Source Recorder. I once made a video for this exact situation in the game; I had 720p resolution and maxed out quality. It looked beautiful. Source Recorder is my favorite feature for Source engine games.
I am starting to think G-Man once relied on Gordon to fullfill many of his purposes, but after seeing how Alyx has performed, G-man started to reconsider his "initial appraisal" of her serving his endevours, and you're basically just keeping her alive to serve his goals further without you or her realizng it (like trigger an event she shouldn't be involved it).
I love the Half-Life 1 memory's. "Unforeseen Consequences". Case you haven't played HL1 its a chapter title. When black mesa goes down the shitter. Pretty much.
i love the mannerisms in his speech, it makes it sound like he is insane(in a good way). i wish i could talk like him because he sound intimidateing and just all around bad ass.
I think Half Life 2 along with Episodes 1 and 2 are really underrated. Not only are they awesome games, they're so movie-like. That's one of the things I like about the way Valve makes games. The awesome character development, voice acting, cutscenes, and just everything else make you feel like you're actually part of everything. That's probably the biggest reason why Valve is my favorite developer.
They're awesome, no other game do you have such a relationship with the characters, i mean when Alyx got attacked by the hunter i really reacted and got worried, and felt the stress to make it to that mine in time.
As well as when Eli dies.
The game is the best,.
even though it's science fiction it still somehow remains in a neutral stance in the fps genre.
Unlike movies though the Half-Life series never takes away control from the player. We interact and not just watch. However it plays out depends on how we continue forward. That's the difference between games and film, and why I think games will become a stronger medium.

@DrBob1991 Well that's part of how it makes you feel like you're in the game. Instead of having standard cutscenes, there are almost breaks in the game where you watch and listen, but you still have control over Gordon.
Underrated? Just shut the fuck up. They're actually overrated. While it's really cinematic-like, it miss cinematic cutscenes. The Gameplay, for a 2004 game, is a little too simple, aside from the puzzles. And the story parts should've been linked closer to each other. They also should've used better and more colorful levels. It's a really good game--outstanding graphics, great sound, superb characters, a cinematic feeling to it--but it's still absolutely not underrated.

The reason Valve is your favorite developer is because you're a close-minded individual who wouldn't stand a minute playing something like The Sims. But also because you've been playing Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 for a very long time that, even when those games aren't top notch--TF2 is really beautiful, btw--you just loved them. Valve is really a very overrated and somewhat outdated developer. The lazy idiots don't wanna leave Source. Half-Life 3 won't be released till 2012... Hah.
@JevastusDestinus Actually I do play the Sims, and, though I do play TF2 from time to time, I don't play CS: Source. The reason Valve is my favorite is because I really enjoyed playing Half Life 2 and its sequels, L4D, TF2, etc. Very few developers are able to be so great with almost every release. That's just my opinion though. You don't have to like it.
Yeah, that's what you idiots don't get: they're just Half-Life 2 total conversions... Crytek is better than Valve, so is IW, Treyarch too, even though they're coping, Gearbox, Ubisoft Montreal, Rockstar... These are all better developers than Valve. Valve might be having some really expert coders, but they're not really that creative. The reason their games are almost bugless is because they're a bot too linear and too simple...

I am starting to think G-Man once relied on Gordon to fullfill many of his purposes, but after seeing how Alyx has performed, G-man started to reconsider his "initial appraisal" of her serving his endevours, and you're basically just keeping her alive to serve his goals further without you or her realizng it (like trigger an event she shouldn't be involved it).

I think Half Life 2 along with Episodes 1 and 2 are really underrated. Not only are they awesome games, they're so movie-like. That's one of the things I like about the way Valve makes games. The awesome character development, voice acting, cutscenes, and just everything else make you feel like you're actually part of everything. That's probably the biggest reason why Valve is my favorite developer.

They're awesome, no other game do you have such a relationship with the characters, i mean when Alyx got attacked by the hunter i really reacted and got worried, and felt the stress to make it to that mine in time.
As well as when Eli dies.
The game is the best,.
even though it's science fiction it still somehow remains in a neutral stance in the fps genre.

Unlike movies though the Half-Life series never takes away control from the player. We interact and not just watch. However it plays out depends on how we continue forward. That's the difference between games and film, and why I think games will become a stronger medium.

@DrBob1991 Well that's part of how it makes you feel like you're in the game. Instead of having standard cutscenes, there are almost breaks in the game where you watch and listen, but you still have control over Gordon.

Underrated? Just shut the fuck up. They're actually overrated. While it's really cinematic-like, it miss cinematic cutscenes. The Gameplay, for a 2004 game, is a little too simple, aside from the puzzles. And the story parts should've been linked closer to each other. They also should've used better and more colorful levels. It's a really good game--outstanding graphics, great sound, superb characters, a cinematic feeling to it--but it's still absolutely not underrated.

The reason Valve is your favorite developer is because you're a close-minded individual who wouldn't stand a minute playing something like The Sims. But also because you've been playing Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 for a very long time that, even when those games aren't top notch--TF2 is really beautiful, btw--you just loved them. Valve is really a very overrated and somewhat outdated developer. The lazy idiots don't wanna leave Source. Half-Life 3 won't be released till 2012... Hah.

@JevastusDestinus Actually I do play the Sims, and, though I do play TF2 from time to time, I don't play CS: Source. The reason Valve is my favorite is because I really enjoyed playing Half Life 2 and its sequels, L4D, TF2, etc. Very few developers are able to be so great with almost every release. That's just my opinion though. You don't have to like it.

Yeah, that's what you idiots don't get: they're just Half-Life 2 total conversions... Crytek is better than Valve, so is IW, Treyarch too, even though they're coping, Gearbox, Ubisoft Montreal, Rockstar... These are all better developers than Valve. Valve might be having some really expert coders, but they're not really that creative. The reason their games are almost bugless is because they're a bot too linear and too simple...

As for the name, well, who gives a fuck about the name if you get the meaning, know what I mean? You generally don't really have to write don't instead of dn't as long as the individual understands/knows the meaning. And you apparently knew that I was talking about Episode 3. If you don't get this, here: It's called Half-Life 2: Episode 3, not half life 2 episode 3.
