@SHELLHEAD1961 as soon as you get that time machine sorted count me in mate, lived the 70's once but would love to have a peep back at it.the music of nazareth played a big part of it for me.this album was the ultimate 70's rock album from that period.
For those of you who don't know- I had many parties in my home. My friends DO respect me, but in eight years I noticed that the only album or item in my house (I've got many of them) that still had been missing (or stolen) is "Hair of the dog". Eventually I ended up purchasing this album 4 times. :)
I think I still have this 8-track tape, I actually had more than 1 copy of it, listened to this entire album till it was practically memorized in the 1970's.
Hair of the Dog album playing in a 8 track tape in a 1967 Camaro........ oh now those were the days when rock and roll was such in bad ass muscle cars.
Rock -n- Roll is lightning and Heavy Metal is the thunder, despite most popular belief Heavy Metal is more about the drums, listen to classic Metal songs, the drums are heavy, thus why you could consider Zep Heavy Metal, look what Bonham did to the drums on some Zep songs, heavy, with this heavy back beat, guitarist had to step out of the usual comfort zone to match or exceed the new style of drummers, thus the more "metallic" edge feel of the guitar and did not necessarily mean playing fast
I dont see resemblance with Black Dog, but even if they did borrow a few ideas from it, who the hell cares. Both are great songs. Just sit, play, and enjoy
EVEN BETTER. listen to this cut live recorded (if accurate ) at about the same time as the studio albums release. GUITARISTS do not miss this FEROCIOUS BRIDGE RIFF. pull up nazareth / changin' times
@juliano66 Yeah but Naz had heavy metal no doubt. Hard Living (72), Witchdoctor Woman (71), Sold My Soul (73), Ballad Of Hollis Brown (73), Shapes Of Things (74), this song and many from this album like: Beggars Day, Miss Misery then continuing on from this album: Expect No Mercy, Born To Love, No Mean City and many from that album.
At 2:25 it sounds just like my Mom yelling my name from the bottom of the stairs, for me to turn it down, back in 1975. First time I heard it, scared me to death. I ran to the stereo for the volume knob. She sounded pissed, as always, when I had it loud.
I remember seeing thm singing this song. My husband at the time dnt wnt to miss anything & he had to pee. So he peed in a cup, sat it down, it spilled, & everyone started moving. lmao!!!!!
I still listen to this album all the time. It has been in my truck's CD player for several months now. I see no reason to take it out. This one is my "going to work song". I wonder how many modern bands will retain that kind of playability 35 years post release?
Nazareth's best song and best album. I haven't heard this song played on the radio since the 70's. What a shame. Very underated band. Love the guitar solo towards the end. I hope the younger generation hears this and can hand it down for future generations to hear years from now.
@TheSkuLLcomedyShow It's a 3 - headed winged canine creature, the album covers of the '60s , '70s and '80s , were masterpieces in their own right, check out the later covers for 'Expect No Mercy' by Frank Frazetta, and 'No Mean City' by Rodney Matthews
the hair of the dog album & close enough for rock and roll was the only 2 albums that nazareth did that was even any good. they went platnium right off the top. razamanaz was the only song off that album that was even any good. these guys blew their load after hair of the dog an never regained it like so many. most do one whole album and they never find that magic again. todays artists r all thieves, they steal everybody elses music because all these losers can't come up with nething good.
@WoodRatGirl No, this song is more of a copy of Fleet wood Mac's "Oh Well" from 1969. Led Zeppelin would copy it with "Black Dog" in 1971, Nazareth "Changin' Times" in 1975, and Judas Priest with "Victim Of Changes" in 1976. Nazareth did not exactly copy Led Zeppelin. Actually, in 1968, Dan McCafferty loaned Robert Plant about $20. Plant never paid McCafferty back.
One of the best songs ever, especially the guitar solo at the end. MAnny Charlton should be considered as one of the most talented guitarists. It's a shame that so many people do not recognize him or Nazareth ! ROCK ON !
its funny because when i was 10 years old i had every nazarth album they put out .. iwould listen to this album after sckool .for about two hours before my dad came home ..i think it was the album that planted the seed to me becoming a fairly good drummer..
perhaps that may be so da324,but take in to account how many albums nazareth have done, and how long they have been going compared to zep, maybe if zep had gone on longer would that consistancy have remained, and would they still be thought of in the same way as they are now,who knows?
nazareth, can stand up to any band reguarding song writing and musicianship, its just that they have never been over hyped like some bands that suppose to be rock gods, sorry but you are wrong there guys, and yes vastly under rated.
@MrOctagon20 Maybe for this LP and Loud and Proud, but to say they have produced records consistantly with the quality of a band like Zeppelin just isn't so.
Sorry Flyfish777, I have to disagree. Nazareth is a good kick ass R&R band, but they don't stand up to the song writing and overall musicianship of Zeppelin.
THIS IS! the most perfect song to play while you zip down down the beautiful, perfectly straight highways and back roads of Northern Minnesota and North Dakota! Especially if it is IN A 1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS!!!
Probably the most underrated band of all time. 1:19-1:30 just blows me away.
