  • cant you just fix the hammer spring thats in it already? by shorting the sping a tiny bit at a time.

  • @kweek45 you could do that but I have also found that if you lighten the hammer spring the magazine can eject while firing since the same spring is used for the magazine catch.

  • I just picked up a P64. It is not my main weapon but is a fantastic surplus weapon. Great conceal gun and back pack weapon. Nice review.

  • Nicely done vid, very well articulated comments. Straight to the point.

  • CZ-82 is still better then both P64 and Makarov for magazine capacity, magazine detach, build quality, SAAMI pressure cap, smoother trigger pull, and ambidextrous grips.

...but the P64 is a good gun for the money.

  • I'm going to start a accessories and ammo company called "Woof", because he's already given them some great free publicity! ;o)

  • Dietzeeee......Where and how hard is it to find factory shells for this. What caliber off of the shelf works with this weapon. I do not reload. Also could this be considered a pocket pistol for Levi's. Do you recommend any smaller pistols for carry. Thanks... great informative video!

  • @HaightandAshbury online you can find ammo. brass cased FMJ ammo i good. I like hornady XTP ammo for defense. I avoid steel cased ammo it tends to be loaded a little bit hotter. I would stick with the factory hammer spring as it is also the magazine catch spring. I have had magazines eject on me when shooting with a reduced power hammer spring. I would avoid silver bear ammo or any bear ammo for that fact. It tends to be inconstant in velocities and sometimes under loaded.

  • @HaightandAshbury I am not a fan of pocket carry. You can find good quality inside the waistband holsters from a guy on the P-64 forums. I would carry the biggest pistol you feel comfortable carrying. If that means it is a 22 then its a 22 if its a 45 then its a 45. I can not tell you what is going to work best for you in a choice for CCW thats something you have to find out on your own. The p64 is my summer carry gun. I now carry a 45 since its concealed under winter clothing

  • @Dietzeeeee Hello, and thank you. I have a full frame military issue 1911 45 which I find great but heavy. I also have the "very Nice" Lady Smith 9mm, which is a great carry weapon. I thought the P 64 might be smaller and lighter than my 9mm. I enjoy your video, very well done..Thank you.

  • @HaightandAshbury No problem. For summer carry when sandals shorts and a T-shirt are the norm. This pistol is great. People notice my I-phone pouch under my shirt before they notice my P-64. Very good choice for deep concealment however as always its a trade off as you are left with a weaker cartridge and less fire power.

  • @HaightandAshbury This has become a popular round, thanks to the Makarov and CZ-82. Ammo is at almost every gun store or pawn shop I've seen.

  • Screw you black lotus!

  • Is it just me, or does the pistol seem to recoil to the right a little?

  • This gun is basically a mini Beretta 92fs

  • @TheMango121 Not even close! This is a fixed barrel recoil operated. Beretta has a locking block with barrel going straight back.

  • I'd imagine this could be a great backup pistol or MAYBE if you're on a really low budget, but that might be pushing it for stopping power. I think this might be the first pistol I buy simply because of it being so cheap. Cheap ammo is nice too :)

  • I love my p64, but I use the 95 grs and it's not to bad

  • Whata damn fine video! Hats off!

  • Thanks guy. I ordered my springs same night I watched. You are a BIG HELP!

  • Check out my Polish P-83 video.. Love these guns.

  • Why does everybody call it a "Beretta 92FS-style safety"? It is a Walther P38-style safety.

  • @Keichwoud357 good point... I think its engineered slightly differently but it would not suprise me at all if that is where they got the idea for that style safety.

  • @Keichwoud357 I think more people are familiar with the beretta than the walther

  • @Keichwoud357 Actually it's a Walther PP-style safety.

  • @Chrstnman The +P is a lot of sizzle for a pistol this size I like a moderate load between starting and max load. +P will leave your hand sore just from the snappiness... but if your life is on the line the extra power could be worth it.

  • James Bond

  • After watching this I am prolly going to treat myself to one, the price is pretty decent for these and I can order some bulk ammo with it to have some fun at the range...can't use for defense in my current state, but when I hit Idaho I plan to get a custom conceal carry holster.

  • @Chrstnman hornady is they way to go XTP or Critical defense are both good choices from them both avialable from midwayusa website.... stay away from silver bear JHP they suck. Glad you liked the video.

  • you can chamber and fire a regular 9MMLugar Round, as your first round, and then cycle the regular 9x18 makees. safely...

  • @altops NO it not safe. The pressures of the 9x19mm luger round is much higher than a 9x18mm it is unsafe to the gun and yourself to do this.

  • @Dietzeeeee

    YOU CAN DOOO IT....

  • @altops The bore of a 9x18mm is .365 the bore of a 9x19mm is .355 So why would you want to put your gun through the high chamber pressure of a 9x19mm round getting poor resaults in accuracy and muzzle velocity due to lack of correct bullet sizing and risk damage to your gun. If you put 9mm nato rounds through a makarov eventually you will not have a makarov you will have sharp pieces of steel and whats left of your hand and face. I have been handloading for years. DON"T SCREW WITH MAX PRESSURES

  • The P64 is a tank, most if not all guns are designed to endure 3 times or greater the pressures the gun will most likely ever see in reality, Having a 9mmLuger parked in the chamber as your first round out, will not harm any one. the barrel and chamber are surrounded by a steel slide, in any chance it fails the slide will and has contained the failure. I am unaware of a single indecent were a slide equipped semi auto ever hurt anyone let alone a P64. I don't have any problems in mine.

  • @altops that is not true... maybe the mauser K98 and some other bolt action designs are able to with stand almost double the pressure but not handguns. The P-64 does not have any locking lugs what so every... why would you chamber a round that is not even the right bore diameter less accurate and probably lower muzzle velocity. You think you can't get hurt from high pressures and you slide will take the excess pressuer. Well your wrong. If you don't believe me I will send you pictures

  • @Dietzeeeee Look what ever my experience trumps your argument so good day.

  • Comment removed

  • @Dietzeeeee agreed ! ! ! the pressures of the 9x19mm luger round is not safe in a 9x18mm makarov chamber. Also the round will fail to go fully into battery so the base of the brass with be exposed and unsupported making case rupturing very likely.

  • Superb Review! Thank You very much. I have one and carried it CCW for a couple of years.

  • I don't think they needed harder primers in their SMGs because of slamfire danger, they just had hard primers.

Poland's SMG around the time this pistol came out was an open bolt design, just like a lot of other SMGs. They operate on the slamfire principle. The firing pin is usually a little nub machined into the bolt it's self, and fires every time the bolt chambers a round.

  • @AngeredKabar I was just quoting what I had read from the manual

  • BTW, does anyone know if There are rubber grips made for the P-64?

  • Hey Dietzee, I thoroughly enjoyed your video- thanks!

I got mine from a buddy for twenty bucks because it was missing an ejector plunger and spring...fixed it for another $20, got a heavier Wolff spring kit and must agree with you that this little gem rocks. I'm gonna check out your vid on polishing the feed ramp and should be good to go. Cheers.

  • I came.

  • your camera sucks

  • Im turning 21 next year and one of the first things Im going to do is apply for my concealed carry permit. Would you recommend this gun over say a PPK or another firearm?

  • @koolskater5 If you have the money a stainless walther ppk might be the way to go. also the PPKs is a model that holds an extra round and might fit your hands better if you have big hands. I carry a Polish P-64 because I handload my own rounds and dial in the power that I want I also don't mind the very heavy double action trigger pull for a gun of this purpose. A walther would be nice if you can afford it. If you do get a P-64 make sure you replace the weak recoil spring with a wolff 22LB one

  • @koolskater5 yes.very good pistol for concealed carry.very reliable and accurate, another good pistol for the money is the makarov and feg pa-63 all in 9x18mak.ppl think these pistols are junk cuz of the price tag, their not,i own a walther PPK and it shoots like shi,t i own a beretta tomcat in 32acp and it dont shoot as good as any of the surplus guns i own.the p-64,makarov,feg pa-63 are all better shooters than all the commercial small pistols i own and ive been shooting 32 years.

  • Great review, Thank You! Great tip on the hammer spring. That was my issue when i fondled one at the show this wknd, the da pull is horrid! Looking to pick one up for the wife..Something she can keep in the car {works in the hood}

  • Awesome! love it compact and under $260 sweet!

  • @TheBobafett13 180 from j&g sales...just about picked one up this weekend. Now im going to have to wait till sept to grab one or a couple! :)

  • Man, I'm really liking this gun...I need one badly!

  • I recognize this music! Did you ever play the game? And once I turn 21, I plan on getting something in 9x18mm Makarov.

  • Dietzeeeee I shot may P 64 for the first time yesturday and I see what you mean about the extea power spring for the recoil. I changed the triger spring with a 17 pound spring. whitch gave it a nice crisp pull. the lighter wieght recoil spring and the 95 grain round give it a big jump. I am going to order the new spring. I did put 60 rounds through it and found that one of my clips doesnt feed the last round into the chamber. The laast round ends up vertical in the action.

  • Oh yeah have put at least 500 rds through it. Not one problem.

  • I love this pistol. I carry it when I run and trust it with my life. Have never had a misfire or jam or malfunction. Great little ass pistol.

  • @zachquarry I carry mine everywhere I go and I only go with something bigger during the winter months when I can afford to wear heavier clothing to break up the shape of a bigger pistol.

  • Do you have any tips or ideas for the standard Makarov pistol? I'm contemplating a Bulgarian Makarov like the one you featured in the video.

  • @64FalconThunder Of all the surplus pistols I have dealt with the Bulgarian makarov has been perfect out of the box. It could stand to have the feed ramp polished and perhaps a stronger recoil spring if you are going to shoot anything near max load, but for a surplus pistol the bulgarian makarov is a very good choice. It is one of my favorite surplus pistols hands down it shouldn't give you any trouble out of the box. Just give it a good first time cleaning and enjoy.

  • @Dietzeeeee Cool. Thanks for the reply, man! Now I'm going to go order it for sure.

  • the music sounds familiar. What movie was that from?

  • Thanks for the the video. I learned everything I needed. Thanks to your video I bought my first P-64 makarov. I just wanted to let you know I will be making the mods you made to yours. I cant wait to shoot it. I will let you know what i think.

  • Love the video. My wifes maiden name is Dietz.

  • @TheStrane maybe were related

  • very good review, just a few things to help you if you dont mind.

    1. shoot after the review

    2. Mag holders are pronounced Bee onk ee, tripped me up when I started wearing their rigs 20 years ago.

    3. Include fit and finish in review(Looks like a nice finish on the weapon, maybe comment on it)

    4. try macro setting on camera or tripod it and focus by hand

By no means am I flaming you, it is a very good review, in fact I'm subscribing to see future reviews.

  • Decided to get this one instead of the hungarian german or russian. 4 inch barrel win

  • I just got one. It has small but accurate sights, an unusable DA trigger, but a very smooth SA trigger, and a fair amount of recoil but not bothersome. It feels right in the hand and is an overall great gun.

  • Thank You for posting- I found it most enlightening Like you I lowered the hammer spring down to 18 pounds instead of 19 like you did. Knowing that its designed for a MUCH milder bullet sure would have been nice cause mine is a hand biter when using 95 FMJ's.

Once again, thank you for the video

  • I know, there's 3 things different between that and the walther ppk. The ppk comes in .32 and 380, has a push butten mag release, and comes in a blued or stainless finish

  • That's almost just like the Walther PPK

  • @SoapMactavish90 very simular the walther PPK in fact many consider the P-64 a close copy of the ppk.

  • @SoapMactavish90 All the Makarov type weapons are derived from the Walther PP series. The PM Makarov, the PA-63, the CZ-82/83 and the P64 are all based on the Walther PP/PPK

  • Can you make more videos?

  • @KapteinFruit working on it. busy with work school and flying.

  • @Dietzeeeee Ok. ;) I hope to see something new soon. :)

  • this gun serves still in Polish police departament :).

  • @Szpilus with the change in recoil spring and using the right ammo this gun is awesome. and very accurate I got a 7 shot grouping smaller than the size of a silver dollar from 20 feet away

  • The Polish P-64 is not a Makarov, it is just called that because of the round it fires.

  • The Polish P-64 is not a Makarov, it is just called that because of the round it fires.

  • I have one of these as my primary carry gun. Great gun. I tried the 18# hammer spring, but had problems with the magazines auto-ejecting randomly. It seems that one of the reasons for the heavy hammer spring is to keep the magazine catch closed securely (shares the same spring). A heavier recoil spring might have controlled the recoil and fixed the problem, but I've trained with the factory hammer spring for a while and I can get the first and second shot (DA, SA) in the T-zone very quickly now.

  • @destruxxx You do share a good point as the hammer spring is also used to keep tension on the magazine catch.

  • @destruxxx

I carry my P-64 as well for my primary gun and have not changed out the springs either.

I did however pick up a spare set from Wolff just in case. Nice firearm and feeds Silver Bear

ammo with no FTF (at least for me). Nice informative video. Thanks.

  • from 1:03 to 1:12

    DIE BOX DIE!!!!!!!!

  • why is it when you fired the pistol, the pistol would jolt to the left a lot? is it supposed to do that? (im just curious)

  • It's basically a Walther PPK chambered for 9x18. It field strips the same way, and has the exact same features (i.e. decocker safety, loaded chamber indicator, etc.) The only major difference that I could spot is that the PPK has a side mag release, instead of the undergrip one on the P-64.

  • Southern Ohio Gun has them and you get the 2ed mag included. J&G always dings you for the 2ed mag. Its included when they buy the guns and they always take them out and sell them seperatly.thats why you can only buy 1 extra. nice way to make a extra buck. I realy like the way mine shoots and you do need to change the hammer spring, I put in a 18# spring in mine, You can order a 17# spring also, thats what I would recomend. I also realy like my Makarov

  • Few things 1 u say u use de holster 4 concieled carry on dose dat mean ur a cop or somthin 2 on 1 to 10 what will u rate that gun cuz my uncle is lookin fir a goid pistol

  • Just wondering what holster that is in the video. I bought one when I purchased mine this summer, but it is an open top holster. I like having a thumb break for added security.

  • hey got my concealed weapons permit i love the p 64 so easy to conceal and packs a punch love your stuff

  • @TheTreadstone22 Cool clad you like the videos.

  • so i got a question with the polish p 64 a walter ppk holster should work right?

  • @TheTreadstone22 I do not have a walther ppk but i would guess that they are pretty close in size and you could probably get away with using a ppk holster on a P-64

  • yea,C&R eligible,bought 2 from J&G Sales. Now everyone's out of them,great pistol,Walther PPK quality at one-third the price. BTW,the holster manufacturer you mentioned,Bianchi,is pronounced Bee-an'-key.

  • @evilelurker Your probably the 7th person thats told me I botched that word... Yeah I love JG sales. as long as you polish the feed ramp change the springs and avoid +p ammo this pistol rocks... Love JG sales there are always some good deals on there once and awhile.

  • @evilelurker Your probably the 7th person thats told me I botched that word... Yeah I love JG sales. as long as you polish the feed ramp change the springs and avoid +p ammo this pistol rocks... Love JG sales there are always some good deals on there once and awhile.

  • man you are amazing you know your stuff

  • Great vid and review!

  • c&r eligible now !!!

  • Great video Dietzeeeee this pistol is also C&R eligible now!

It is on the ATF site

  • these things are hella nice. Real real accurate an fling a 95 - 115 grain bullet at about 1,000 feet per second with 8 shot mags. Caliber is really 9.2 mm, .36 caliber. so its not interchangable with .380 wich is .35 caliber / 9mm

  • i love your stuff, you are solid

  • hey i got a p 64, where can i find hollow point bullets for this gun?

  • @TheTreadstone22 You loading press is always the best place :D

  • @TheTreadstone22

Hey cheif, J&G has silver bear JHP in 9x18. Their prices are great, i just ordered 6 boxes XD

  • I love my P-64, especially because it is so concealable. It is hard to conceal my normal carry Glock 23. I carry the P-64 during the summer where it conceals well with shorts and a t-shirt.

  • @mtefft Yes when its 90+ and shorts+sandals+T shirt and your still sweating... the P-64 makes a good cost effective choice for CCW during hot summer months.

  • Command and Conquer back round music nice

  • @Blink180stu Got to love it ! I am poking around at some C&C red alert music for future reviews.... when I have the time to make them.

  • Nice video! I've been considering getting one, it looks reliable and ammo is available from US manufacturers. Have you tried it's accuracy at 25 feet or so? I'm just looking to get it for recreational target practice.

  • @locowil very accurate even out to 25 feet.. I would not recomend it for target practice unless you get the extra power recoil spring and avoid hot loaded ammo... I try to load my 95 grain rounds around starting load or 900-950 FPS.

  • bulgarian is a true MAKAROV NOT THE POLISH

  • @levcki Yes the Polish P-64 takes the same ammo but is not a "makarov" I just compaired them side to side as the makarov is considered the flag ship for pistols that shoot 9x18mm.

  • not a true MAKAROV

  • how come this gun is cheap?its only $200 for a brand new one!thats why im scared to buy it!pls respond!

  • @dtc2125 because it is surplus, It is not very easy to find parts it is not modern manufactor. Many complain too about its heavy recoil and heavy double action trigger pull all of which can be fixed by upgrading ths springs.

  • @dtc2125 The gun is out of service in Polish military and police first replaced with P-83 WANAD and then with P-94 WIST in military or Walther P99 in police service. The gun market in poland is almost non existing thank's to our stupid governament (out of 38 milion citizent's only about 30 000 have a permit for self defence waepon) the waepon is wirtualy almost unknown outside the poland if you compare to Russian Makarov or Czech pistol's. That's why is so cheap...

  • looks small

  • @rubikman20 It is very small but still more powerful than a .380 acp so its perfect for concealed carry if you change the springs out and avoid +p ammo

  • Great video, very informational.

  • @crazyfool8839 Thanks I am glad you liked it !

  • how much does it sell for

  • @rubikman20 P-64 goes for anywhere between $180 and $250 usually

  • Glaser Pow'RBall makes a 70 Grain bullet but i'm not paying $25 for a box of 20 the only other ones I see are 94, and 95 grain bullets from Midway I think you might be right

  • @9mmDEagle Yes more than $1 per shot is ridiculious. I just drop the load down to starting load for the P-64 with a 95 grain bullet where much of the factory ammo is near max load when it comes to pressures.

  • There has never been a 71 grain bullet in 9x18mm caliber. The manual produced by D.R. Morse is incorrect. According to the actual Polish manual the projectile intended for use weighed 6 grams which equals ~92.6 grains. Also, muzzle velocity is stated as 310 m/s or 1017 FPS. Just figured I'd share this bit of useful information. The extra power spring is NOT required.

  • @saysonny The spring is Not required but VERY helpful. I will need to look into it but I have a feeling you may be right as the bullet info was way to close to that of a 32 auto which leads me to believe that it was a mistake.

  • pronounced as bianchi = bee-yankee, that came from the company

  • @omegahpla Yes I know I botched the pronoucing of it. I had never heard it only read it... so I did my best LOL.

  • yeah that one is a hard one, I knew so I figured I should help out cause I could.

the least I could do after you took the time to make the video

  • Hows it compared to a makarov?

  • @DirtyFrigginHarry trigger pull is heavier longer reset. More recoil. 2 less rounds in the magazine. but much smaller VERY VERY slim great for carry but not my first pick for a home defense type pistol.

  • Hallo friend, one more question for you - do you once shot or keeping American pistol Gyrojet , with rocket bullets?

  • @kaes2000 Never shot a gyrojet. all ammo I use is handloaded with normal smokeless powder just like factory ammo.

  • one more question: how much did that IWB holster cost?

  • @TimeIsPassingBy I think around 25-30 go on ebay and type makarov holster and see if you can find it. The guy I bought them from had a ton of them but only sold them one at a time.

  • nice video btw, digging the Command and Conquer Generals music in the intro

  • @TimeIsPassingBy Thanks, I like there music and WMG doesn't go after it so thats why I use it.

  • So just how bad exactly is the DA trigger pull without any modification? I've shot snub revolvers in DA with a pretty heavy trigger pull is it comparable to that or much worse?

  • It's pretty bad. I'm not a small guy, and I can SOMETIMES do it with one finger. Usually, you'll need to use two fingers to properly pull it past breaking point.

Mine's a stock P-64, no modifications and has been broken in.

  • @TimeIsPassingBy Yeah its pretty bad. With out changing the spring my first shot would sail off to one side and I don't know of any trigger pull scail out there that could measure that pull it was just so heavy.

  • Comment removed

  • Did you change any of the springs out in this weapon such as hammer/recoil springs? Also, do you know what ammo you are shooting in this video? Thanks so much for posting!

  • @yadeyrinii I covered springs in the review. I am using hand loads... Load data is in the video discription.

  • Wish I could own one.

Don't live in a FREE state.

Doing time on the left coast.

  • @rainman8819 LOL yes the left coast how fitting a title. Well when your done doing your " time " get the hell out of there and get yourself a P-64 LOL

  • Sorry, and i see odd ammunition. this be weak maybe, to civil use?

  • @kaes2000 Those are my handloads... They are Jacketed hollow points that hornady came out with for 9x18mm

  • Nice... .My father is policeman. he use p64 in 60...80,ts.

  • @kaes2000 Curious as to what they use now... Glad you liked the video !

  • Now? Glock, P-99 and Glauberyt in dangerous missions. Maybe some P-64 in forget village... :) sorry for my eng...

  • @kaes2000 Cool. Your english is Good. I know that they used a lighter weight bullet in the P-64 thats why with modern heavier ammunition it has such heavy recoil.

  • We still have alot of p-64's and p-83's left in service, but we repalce them with p-99's and glock's

  • @BalticVodka Cool to hear that they are still used. I would love to know how to get my hands on some of the lighter bullet weight ammo...

  • It's not that cool ;) this pistol i really out of date and it should have been replaced at least two decades ago... I still have one, but this month i'm getting a p-99 Walther ^^

though p64 would make a good secondary pistol

  • @BalticVodka Oh I think its an outstanding off duty or concealed carry gun but in no way should it be a duty gun or a primary side arm in anyway. Its just to small.

  • is the 9x18mm round pretty powerful i mean can you use it for home defence and stuff.

  • @northeasthawk It is one step above a .380 acp in power. I personally think its an awesome concealed carry option when concealment is an issue, not just in the P-64 but the bulgarian Makarov and the CZ-82, It will get the job done if you do yours and put your rounds on the vital areas of your target. Yes this round could be used for both concealed carry and home defense but personally when I am at home and concealment is not an issue I like to use something bigger such as a 45 auto or a shotgun

  • @northeasthawk

It's one cunt hair more powerful than the .380 ACP, almost a ballistic twin really.

  • Another note. The trigger pull and reset on the bulgarian makarov is very nice. Even in double action it is very nice. I really like it. It to like the P-64 has a chrome lined barrel so it will outlast pretty much any other commercial handgun barrel out there. I really wish more barrels out on the market were chrome lined. The barrel is much easier to clean as fouling and powder residue do not tend to cling to such a hard smooth surface plus being so resitant to corrosion is great.

  • @Dietzeeeee sounds nice, can't wait to get the money for one

  • will you do a video on you Makarov?

  • @PhauxTheFox Eventually. I love my bulgarian makarov. It really is the "glock" of surplus pistols It is great out of the box you don't have to "mess" with it

  • @Dietzeeeee I'd like to get a Russian one, there was one for sale at the local shop but they sold it,

how is it for concealed carry?

  • @PhauxTheFox I like it during the winter time when I have heavier clothing on. It works great with an inside the waist band holster but even better with just a concealed carry belt holster. I use hornady XTP 95gr jhp handloaded with 4.0 grains of accurate number 2 seated .005-.010 deeper than minimum length because at minimum case over all length I would have the round hang up occasionally because they were to long but since this is not max load and its only 10 thousandths pressure is still ok

  • I will warn however that this is a little heavier for its size because its all steel, but on the other hand that makes it easier to recover your sights back on target after each shot because the weight counter acts the recoil better than your alluminum or composite frames do. I really like the fit in my hand and its a VERY VERY SIMPLE PISTOL. I like it also because it has some of the features of a full sized gun but in a compact platform like slide release and thumb safety and so on

  • Did I mention I love the trigger pull and reset and even the double action trigger pull is great. I also love the fact that it has a chrome lined barrel which in my opinion is the best you can get for any type of duty / concealed / anything really. Better than a stainless barrel if you ask me. the rifiling will last virtually forever.

  • If you want extended mags for pm , talk to gunsmith workshop the radon ,,Łucznik'' plants . They have a special service and can help you .
