I met Harvey Fierstein back around the time when he was writing the book for LaCage aux Folles... He came to the Gay & Lesbian Youth Center in NY. He was gracious, funny and charming. He was also the grand marshall for the Gay Pride parade in 1984. He was on stage at the piere when it started to rain... He said, in his raspiest voice, "It's not really raining, we're just washing our hair." When it started to rain harder, he exclaimed, "Now, we're conditioning!"
I love his deep, raspy voice. I've never seen the play Torch Song Trilogy, but I've seen the movie of the same name. It's the best movie I've seen in a long time.
love to see harvey do a follow up part 2, bring the story up to date, the sad aspect of course is the loss of Ann Bancroft, she was amazin as his mother
One of the advisors for the gay youth group i go to got me hooked on the movie. I found the movie to be amazing and thank you jwindish for posting this... much love... and i am sad that i didnt get to see the play when he was still doing it... T-T
The announcer on this clip was also an interviewee/focal character in the documentary on the Names Project; so many beautiful people from the not-so-distant-past that are no longer with us. It was good to see Vito preserved here on YT. Thank you for this clip.
Be sure to check out the Manhattan stage revival of Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song Trilogy, opening Jan. 21. Tix available at 646-537-1733 or google Black Henna Productions.
I don;t think Harvey would never give up his Jewish roots and dishonor the memory of his father, Irving. or his aged mother Jackie. Harvey, grew up across the street from the Yeshiva of Bensonhurst on 79th st in Brooklyn. He is angry with many Jews and other religions anti gay sentiments, however their are millions of Jews are who do not descriminate on sexual orientaion, race, etc.
I do know those kind of people you are referring to.
It's sometimes sick that they get hurt when they hear bad comments about Jewish people, I do not know why? If they don't believe in God, what is there to get mad about? hahahah.
You calloused detached ignorant stupid white gentile...Because its a slap in the face for our culture, our heritage, it is a personal attack on the memories of our grandparents and ancestry...if your a homo does that word piss you off???...... asshole
thank you!! wow...so true...those of use who are atheist Jews identify themselves through culture. Much like how atheist Christians still might celebrate Christmas yet don't believe in god, but my family, we don't celebrate any holiday really. Thanksgiving is the biggest holiday for us.
His voice is so fucking cool.
