  • These guys were definitive proof that punk rock angst could mean more then a petulant cry thrown up by the children of les miserables. Ces't la vie!

  • One of the greatest albums ever by one of the greatest bands. Love this song so much.

  • Mick Jones=absolute legend.

  • what album is this on

its not on my london calling

  • This song is still inspiring!

  • 'Freaking Awesome' about covers it.

Thanks for a nice shot of punk adrenaline.

  • ive ha such bad day! :( But hey lik sky scrapers rising up no im not giving up!

  • a part of that bass line that start reminds me of the bass from Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks

  • @ColdOasisU2 Lol, I just commented on that video saying that reminds me of this xD

  • 4 people are Down,

    Really Down!

  • Like skyscrapers rising up

Floor by floor, I'm not giving up

    genius

  • Great band, great song. Sure wish I could have seen them live.

  • "So you rock around and think that you're the toughest, in the world, the whole wide world... you're streets away from where it gets the roughest. You ain't been there." -Mick Jones

  • I've lived that kinda day when none of my sorrows will go away.......

    Loved this song

  • A freaking awesome song indeed.

  • Can you imagine being alive back during the late seventies and early eighties when all the stuff on Top 40 radio was this sort of shit?

Good god it must have been incredible.

  • @DrTrollinThunder Actually, the top for in the late 70's / early 80's was shit as only a select few stations here in the states were playing the good stuff like The Clash. In Chicago area it was WXRT 93.1 who would play them. THe only other place was WNUR the radio station for Northwestern College 89.3 FM. It's nice to think that most places were playing the good stuff but, alas, they weren't.

  • I almost forgot how this song can lift me up. Like skycrapers rising up!!

  • yesterday i was robbed, and today i wake up put this song and am really really better :D

  • @Pinkerton419 Oh shite. Are you okay? Sorry to have that happen, that's horrible.

  • @MangoStarrx3 am ok he just toke my celphone thanks for ask :D

  • @Pinkerton419 Ah okay. At least that's all. Your welcome c:

  • This song makes me happy a lot!♥ Yeah!

  • please do not put the sex pistols and The Clash in the same sentance . same genre of music? Maybe , but there a class apart.

The Clash write songs about the poor , about the goverment , they had a message .

Sex Pistols first album was ok until they sold out to sell butter.. The Clash changed styles and improved as a band and now they have a legacy of making one of the greatest albums of all time LC .. Sex Pistols will be remembered for hmm god save the queen.

  • @chanceie12 sex pistols made only one album...

  • I'm down like a clown Charlie Brown. Boom.

  • Topper Headon's drumming is tops.

  • @SrTonyClifton Dam right. My bro also have a white Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Topper!!

  • GOODIE!

  • heard this on the radio today :)

  • This S#$% is so deadly - you gotta love those buried gems of the Clash. I wish Sandinista was a 4 LP release!

  • Best album ever.

  • the clash first album and give em enough rope were much better than london calling ,in my opinion ,before any one gets upset! punk is an individual thing and we all have different views, they were gods live and the best band i ever saw live , joe strummer r.i.p ,

  • @homebrew95 The Clash play rock. Punk was a pejorative that major label record execs would say about upstart record label owners like Richard Branson (Virgin) and Chris Blackwell (Island).

There's no such thing as punk music. It's rock.

  • @TruthAxe

There is a such thing as punk music. It's in the ideals and emotion in the music.

  • @skakid9090 Too many get caught up in Aristotelian classification because inculcated into their minds is socialist belief, which has classes at its basis.

In truth, this is straight up rock and roll and nothing more. There's nothing ideal about this. Merely it is. More over, all performance has emotion -- acts of emoting -- unless performed by a computer.

  • @TruthAxe

I really didn't want to insult you, but wow you're a pretentious douche if I've ever seen one.

  • You amuse, @skakid9090. You're like an armless midget trying to box a 6'4" heavyweight champ.

Enjoy this song for it is rock and roll and nothing more. It's not "punk". There's no such thing. Punk was the pejorative said by major label execs against upstarts like Richard Branson who brought to the fore these previously unsigned acts on his Virgin Records label.

Learn the history. Stop being so gullible to marketing. Oh how you amuse.

  • @TruthAxe

No, punk is a form of music. Words gain their meaning through use, I don't give a fuck who coined the term, and punk is the word for the subset of rock music.

Punk and rock aren't mutually exclusive.

    Stop being an asshole.

  • @skakid9090 Punk isn't a form of music. In the Rock n Roll, there are various idioms related to the time signature of the beat (drums) and the play of the bass. Notable idioms are rock in all its guises (rockabilly, heavy metal, "punk", progressive); ska; reggae; funk; disco.

You should quit while you are oh-so-far behind. You lack an understanding of the art of music.

  • @TruthAxe

You can't seem to get your head out of your ass.

If you think "there's no such thing as punk music", type "punk rock" into Google and you'll see that it is indeed defined as a genre of music through one of the many sites stating this fact.

If you think "this is straight up rock and roll and nothing more" or idioms become nonreal, understand the difference between association and disassociation.

If you think "there's nothing ideal about this", watch a fucking Clash documentary.

  • The ever amusing @skakid9090. Mere words have triggered you into rage. Look at you go!

Many idiots hold the false belief that there is such a thing as "punk music." Wily documentary makers sold many tickets to their movies to such suckers.

Yet, in the art of music, there's no such thing. Only in the MARKETING of music is there such a thing. Marketing is the art of convincing idiotic persons to do acts like buy movie tickets to documentaries about music.

  • The most amusing @skakid9090. Why would I want to watch a Clash documentary -- though I've seen some?

I saw the Clash play, which, no doubt, you have not. HA HA HA.

  • @skakid9090 This is a great, straight up rock song in cut time. There's nothing "punk" about it. Major label CBS released it. HA HA HA

  • @skakid9090 What you meant to say is that idiots parrot false meanings through misuse of words.

  • @TruthAxe

Which concludes my trying to change your point of view.

  • @TruthAxe

Okay I had to say one more thing.

You seem to think there's money in marketing music as punk.

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @skakid9090 HA HA HA is right. Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols ... certified platinum in both the U.S.A and the U.K. That's money, boy.

  • @TruthAxe

Well apparently you're 27, and seeing as how the clash disbanded in 1986....

Congrats on going to a show you can't remember and then bragging about it.

    You're a self-righteous cunt dude, lol.

  • @skakid9090 Who tells their real age on YouTube except for cunts?

HA HA HA . I saw the Clash live. You never have and you never will. HA HA HA. RPI Fieldhouse baby.

  • @TruthAxe pwned

  • @TruthAxe Where did you see them ? When ? Was it great (stupid question, of course it was awesome ) ?

  • @MrRikum RPI Fieldhouse, Troy, New York, Oct 3, 1982. I've my ticket stub somewhere.

Great show. Surprisingly, Mick Jones can play guitar. Their PA system left much to be desired though.

Here's most of the songs they played that night:

London Calling, Safe European Home, The Guns Of Brixton, Call Up, Know Your Rights, Train In Vain ,

This Is Radio Clash, English Civil War, Brand New Cadillac, Police On My Back, Clampdown, I Fought the Law, Tommy Gun, London’s Burning, Complete Control

  • @homebrew95 do you prefer the UK release or the US one of the first album?

  • I didn't know this music until now. It was just what I needed. It's like it was made just for me, just for now.

  • waterloo sunset the kinks intro at :13

  • waterloo sunset intro??

  • @chattychar I think that all the time too...

  • I NEED to hear this now.

  • Google ... "THC Cures Cancer"

  • I don't know what made Mick Jones decide to do the "hup!" at the beginning of this song, but it really made it that much cooler. Great song! Thanks for uploading.

  • So you rock around and think that you're the toughest...

But you're streets away from where it gets the roughest...

  • luv this song

  • The clash cleverly released this album in the winter of 1979 therfore it retains both the best album of the 70's and the best album of the 80's although I dont think that was their intention. Well done classic album

  • THE band,nothing else comes close,FACT

  • quality

  • THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS

  • London Calling is the best album ever made. The only other one that comes close is Give 'Em Enough Rope. On some days it's the best, but on most days it's London Calling. Give me London Calling and a twelve pack, and I'll rule all ass.

  • London Calling is the best album of all time, period. The only one that comes close is Give 'Em Enough Rope. On some days it's the best. But on most days, give me London Calling and a twelve pack. I'll rule all ass.

  • "I've been shown up, BUT I've grown up...

    I'm not down"

  • Made me feel 10x better :)

  • This entire album is a masterpiece, it may not be as punk as The Clash, or as broad as Sandinista!, but every song on this album is amazing. Take this, for example.

  • @stoprejectingmynames My favourite album is the American version of The Clash. For some reason I like it better than the British (original) version.

  • @danielscissorhands Me too

It has Clash City Rockers and I fought the Law!

  • damn i love this song. london calling is quite possibly the greatest album of all time.

  • Well it has stiff competition but it does compete, Your choice of old David Bowie Album Probably Ziggy Stardust, Are you Experienced, Disintegration, Velvet Underground @ Nico, Daydream Nation, OK Computer,L.A. Woman.. or anything else from the Doors, Doolittle, White Album......... I couldn't pick the best album of all time.... it wouldn't compute.

  • The Clash Rocks!!!

  • never be another clash

  • my FAVORITE song by the clash. just a great combination of their styles while having fun with the song.

  • @flamedmango i personally prefer london calling or Rock the Casbah im not sure, but this is a VERY close second this is definitely one of their best works

  • London Calling-- how do you pick a favorite off of this album? That would be so wrong(em boyo).

  • @1959VONCILE my fav is spanish bombs which i think is the best song in the world ,the whole wide world.

  • ahhh, some good ol' punk

  • Can't get much better than this song.

  • The drums are sick!! They perfect an already awesome song

  • .....

  • whoever hates on anything by the clash is so obviously ignorant and deprived, the only thing you can do is pity them

  • @corona41 Damn right!

  • no lie!

  • @corona41 Right on!!

An incredibly significant band, not only in terms of music but in politics as well.

  • @corona41 why would you pity them are you saying idiots pity them because i find it hard to pity the punk legends who lived in the golden age of music

  • @corona41 technically people have the right to say whatever the fuck they want.............even tho they better not say anything bad about the clash

  • @corona41 well said!!! only babarians who dont have an ear to understand and appreciate The Clash and thanks to Rock Band a whole new generation will be exposed to their message now turn your speakers up and piss someone off

  • @corona41

or they have a conflicting opinion for valid reasons.

  • @corona41 f*cking retards :P

  • @2paranoid2think Chick with a Dick???

  • favorite song on London Calling... it's soo cool, love Mick Jones!

    5.5/5

  • at the top!!!!

  • what utter shite people talk on youtube, just enjoy a great song by a great band..too all the cynical wankers.

  • Agreed.

  • one of my favourites

  • It's "you rock around and think that your'e the toughest"

  • How do you, 'rock around and think you're the toughest'?!? Maybe you're right, I'm trying to listen without referring to a lyric sheet. These guys were of the people and they joined in on the race riots on the side of the oppressed and bullied. It wouldn't make sense if that's the lyrics, TGV. But, then this song has multiple meanings and is about depression.

  • boner

  • The Clash<3

  • I freak'n love this song!!! ♥

  • It's way better than Elton John's 'I'm still standing' a few years later.

  • God Bless * THE CLASH*

  • PURE CLASS

  • MY ANTHEM!!!

  • The only listenable clash song? Go back to your Miley Cyrus album, kid.

  • @sucktastic

and what the fuck do you know ???

if you d't like them don't listen to them? i doubt anyonewants your opinion anyway!

you've probably grown up by now

  • @Segreantsexy

19 who thumb-upped my comment say otherwise.

  • @sucktastic I just thumbed up your comment because I thought it was correct, however you have 79 thumbs ups and I didn't wanna ruin that because that was the year this album was made. Sorry.

  • @JESSESEIBEL

    LOL, thanks. :)

  • @sucktastic FUCK THOSE NOADAYS KIDS MAN i'm in a gang , we look for trouble kicking those stupid new vibe kids , join in

  • @DARTAN09 if ur gang listens to this kind of music then. . . . . . . i wanna join!

  • @kaupokallerdis Are you gay?

  • so if you rock around and think that you're toughest in the world , the whole wide world . but you're streets away from where it the roughest , you ai'nt been there

  • No, man, it's: So, you walk around and think that you're the toughest in the world, the whole wide world, but you're streets away from where it gets the roughest, you ain't been there.'

  • I've been beat up

    I've thrown out

    BUT I'M NOT DOWN

  • one of those great songs from this album ^^

  • Great song and greatest band ever

  • The Clash were pure greatness, truly a great song.

  • This is my favourite Clash song, really lifts my spirits whenever I listen to it.

  • GREAT

  • anyone else notice a small skip or w/e between 1:50 and 1:52

  • no?

  • The magnificent clash yeah!

  • great song

    love the clash so much

  • I listen to this song every day. It always keep me up, man.

  • streets away!

  • These lyrics really move me:

And I have lived that kind of day

When none of your sorrows will go away

It goes down and down and hits the floor

Down and down and down some more

    Depression

But I know therell be some way

When I can swing everything back my way

    Like skyscrapers rising up

Floor by floor, Im not giving up

  • i wonder why joe got a heart atack

  • it was due to a hereditary heart disease he suffered form. He never told anyone about he, he just tried to live his life mate ;)

  • actually, no one knew. not even him.

  • okay then, i made an ickle error....

  • That's right, Purojannu, he didn't know. Fucking love this song.

  • awesome !!!

  • yep with you Craig, Strummer was great but Mick wrote the best songs, another one i forgot to add was Stay Free

  • That's strictly a matter of opinion, both Joe and Mick wrote great songs but together they are the best!!

  • Even Simonon sing a few. Either way a great combination of talented musicians that produced exceptionally blatant music.I wonder if the "Who" inspired the Clash or was it the Ramones?

  • Probably both. Their music ranges from Three-chord rage to Genre-Bending tracks that incorporate genres such as Reggae, pop, etc...

    Sometimes both!

  • Is it messed up that I say I like Mick better as a singer, I mean when you think of the singer for the Clash you think "Joe Strummer" but Mick rocked too!! plus my two fav songs (besides rock the casbah) are this and train in vain which are both sung by Mick.

    but RIPunk Joe Strummer

  • One of my fav all time Clash songs- mick jones songs were the best, this one somebodys got murdered, train in vain, remote control

  • dude.. i completely agree!, I mean, I love joe strummer and stuff.. but Mick Jones.. YEAH!

  • i cant find the song? whats it's real name? or is "I'm Not Down by The Clash"?

  • The song is just "I'm Not Down". Where are you looking for it?

  • i checked bearshare

  • just buy London Calling, you should own it anyway.

  • you should own two!

  • Makes sense to me!

  • CHYEAH GREAT ALBUM DUDE

  • what an album,what a band,how they are missed...
