@Hissatsu5 I prefer the Goliath myself... It's longer length suits my style of fishing better. Plus it allows for farther casts and a little more "give" when fighting big fish. Hope that helps man...
Just purch'd a Swiss Ranger Volcano Stove, for $10, from Cheaper-than-Dirt, and on that product page, they also provide a related product link for a maxpedition *clone* MOLLE water-bottle carrier (with front-zip-pouch) for another $20 ... The Swiss Ranger comes with a nested cup and a large flask (over 2 cups) and a wood-burning chimney/wind-screen that also adapts to a Trangia or Triad or penny or cat-tin burner ... Attaches OUTSIDE my Motherlode pack and is all aluminum. ... so ... pass.
This is a great gear option! Thanks for letting me know about it!. Another reason or place to carry this would be in your luggage on a non-fishing trip say on an airplane or for military personnel. Every post I've been to had a lake or a river near the barracks.
@Pallooka51 No problem Brother... my pleasure. What an excellent option you mentioned! I bet there's a ton of service men and women who would love being able to get off base for a few to get a little fishin' time in! Thanks for sharing the tip!
@Ggreenvideos Thanks Bro! Yeah, this little setup has been an absolute blast to fish with! Of course, you're talkin' to the guy that was havin' fun catching fish with a stick, haha ;-0
Nice set-up. Really cool. I caught a 15 pound channel cat on a kids Zebco 202 a few years back. I was hiking and it was a freebie and the line was old and half rotten. Got me dinner though. Well, I know where my next rod and reel is coming from now. I was looking for a good packable kit. As my current one is not suitable.
@RebLin51 Thanks friend. Wow, a 15lb cat on a little Zebco huh? That must have been a fun fight! Good job on getting him landed with your line being so bad!
I've always wanted to try one of those pocket fisherman. This looks even better. Great review. I think I missed your world record vid. Going to watch it now...Dash
Very nice video John, I've been using a shimano telescopic for a while now and it works fine but I really like the look of the pen rods. Never seen them before, thanks for sharing.
@phrayzar Thank you my friend. Yeah, these little combos work great for when space and weight are fairly limited. It's been alot of fun fishing with them too! :-)
@oregonmikes My pleasure Mike. Yeah, I saw some "knockoff" versions years ago that I wasn't very impressed with, but I gotta say these are the real deal. A blast to fish with too!
An autograph huh? The only autographs of mine that people seem to like are when I'm writing them out a check, haha! ;-) Take care buddy!
P.S. Got an interesting vid coming up for ya real soon ;-)
@materialsky313 To be honest, I don't really know because I haven't gotten the chance to fish them in saltwater. Although I have seen a guy fish with the Extreme model in the ocean, and it handled nicely. You'll have to try it out and report back ;-)
Awesome video John. Your creativity really shines when you put together these videos! Holy guacamole, multiple camera angles and everything! : o)
Amazing little fishing poles, Wow! Definitely a sweet little kit to have along. I think with something like this, A person would be looking for even more excuses to go fishing just so they could use it.. : )
Have a good one and I hope you hook many more big ones my friend.. : )
@saradreaming Sara, thank you so much for the kind compliments my friend! I hope the different angles worked... never know till ya try, right? Besides, I have to step it up in order to keep up with your level of creativity! ;-0
I agree with ya... after fishing with this little setup for most of the Summer and Fall, I have to admit that I love it! Plus, you should see the looks on people's faces when I whip out that little pen and then proceed to land some nice fish with it... priceless! ;-)
Nice video John. These Pen rods and reels are pretty neat little systems. Very nice rod considering the size/weight aaaaand they are not that expensive, even for Mr. DIY :-) I have a breakdown Zebco pack rod/reel combo and an old collapsible 5 ft “Open Road” Telrod with a small South Bend 725 spinning reel but these Pen combos look like a nicer and more compact option.
@Woodenarrows Thank you Jim. Yeah, I'll tell ya I've been really impressed, that's for sure. I like my good pack rods still without a doubt, but these pen rods have earned their place in my arsenal now too.
P.S. Guess my secret's out now... I save all my money on my little DIY projects just so I can spend it on fishing equipment, hehe. Take care my friend....
For the 5 dollar difference in pce, am going with the Goliath. I was totally sold when I watched the "world record" being broken. Of course, a lot of that was due to the fisherman. I think for what I would use it for, it will be just fine! Thanks John.
@rondygal Yeah, I'm with you... the Extreme is cool and all, but I love the Goliath! Maybe that's just because it's been a really lucky rod for me though, lol ;-) Thank you for the kind words as usual my friend! Take good care....
I've had one of these for a while, it's the cats meow, I plan to grab the mini fly reel and inflatable floats to get the whip effect on that short rod.....great vid!!!
@steffler69 Right on Brother. I've been wanting to try out those little fly setups for awhile now... you'll have to let me know what you think. Thanks!
Great review! I have a cheap collapsible fishing rod that came with a crappy (not crappie) reel. I keep it in the trunk of my car in summer just in case. I'm going to switch out the reel though. Take care.
@GunsKnivesSurvival Thanks Will, I appreciate that. I'm the same way... usually try to keep a rod or two stashed in the vehicle, but it seems like I end up taking them out and then I don't put 'em back, lol. Take care Brother....
Great video. I've wanted a large goliath combo ever since i saw your record breaking video, but at about $50 bucks its kind of a luxury for me, hopefully i'll have one by spring tho. btw if i broke any kind of world record i wouldn't shut up about it...great job
Great job Brother! I looked at these about a year ago and I was skeptical so I'm happy to hear an awesome review! ohh and congrats on the WORLD RECORD!!! freakin awesome!! thanks again!!
@TomsBackwoods I know what you mean man... I saw some pretty low quality "knockoffs" of these years ago, and laughed them off as a joke. But after fishing with these originals most of the summer I have to say that I'm completely sold on 'em now. Thanks for the compliment and congrats Brother... much appreciated!
Awesome video. Do you know if you can put your own reel on the pen rod though?
