  • its bad to run your outboard motor when its not in water.

  • Hey another water pump bites the dust! Morons like this are 1/2 the reason why us outboard dealers stay in business (LOL) I'll guarantee that Water pump was toast after that

  • @plm947 First of all: don't call me a moron, it's just so childish! and second: NO, the water pump still works, 2 years after, engine is sold, and they are very pleased with it! I know the water pump can often get bad after¨doing this, but I didn't have a big enough bucket of water, and I had to test the engine, if it broke I would just have changed it, it's pretty easy, and the parts are cheap!

  • @kiarra00 Ya whatever in my line of work your still a moron or maybe I should tone that down to just an ignorant fool (LOL) P.S There's no way that pump was just fine after that

  • sounds great but i wouldn't run it that long outa water

  • Dude that waterpump is now toast!!!

It only takes a few seconds for the rubber impeller to melt when running out of water like that.

By the way that looks like a 1963 5 1/2. I has the same motor as a kid and it was the best running motor I have had

  • Thats what I was thinking with the seal part.

  • nah, my engine has ran outa water for about 20 seconds and works fine.

  • lookin at the vid i bet it wouldnt harm much for a minute anyways

  • that ounds sweet i would love to have above water exhaust on that thing!

they never run well at low speed due to bad timing.

  • cool sound!

  • just dont ever let it run that long out of water. its a bitch to replace the water pump seal

  • more like late 70's to early 80's. very, very nice motor.

  • cool sounding engine! what is the mixing ratio?

I do like a 4 stroke, but 2 cylinder/2 strokes have always caught my attention.

  • I don't know the mixing ratio for this engine, but I use 2-3% on all of my 2 stroke engines, and I haven't seized one yet!

  • you really shud never run one of thoes for more than 10 seconds or the seal for your water pump disintegrates. i had one of thoes and just running it no water for a few seconds and when i had it on the boat the water pump sprayed out water from the seal and the engine overheated. same with 4 strokes too.

but that is prolly the nicest sounding motor ive seen. usually when i start thoes up with flushers they sound real strange and pop alot no mater how i set the carb.

  • Oh, I thought they could run a little longer, because it didn't feel very warm after this, but now I know. I will try to put it in some bucket filled with water next time. But then the exhaust wont sound so good. Thanks for the information!

  • welcome :)

  • straight pipe it!

  • that is very common because the ignition timing is off at low speed, that's how they slow 'em down.

  • It looks older than that... Probably 70s.

  • very nice engine, has a very smooth idle for a 2 stroke

  • Thanks! the idle is smooth for a 2 stroke that's for sure. Even with lawn mower spark plugs.

  • lawnmower sparkplugs? wow, id think they would foul pretty fast in a boat engine. ive got an old 1970s evinrude 4 cyl boat engine, it runs great and its never failed to start either. in fact the hardest start its ever done was in one of my vids, it had year old gas in it and sat out all winter and it still started with a bit of extra cranking
