hi im joining the navy soon (hopefully) as a naval airman (aircraft handler) it looks like a great job and it looks like the job your doing is it a good job
If you contact your nearest careers office they should point you in the direction of a sponsorship. Basically you go through Southampton university as a normal student before joining Dartmouth on completion, great idea and little to no debt at the end
i was thinking on being a weapons engineer officer im 12 going on 13 and hope to get 5 scottish standard grades leave school at 17 or 18 and get an engineering degree for the officer purpose and 180 ucas points but does navy have academy were i can get the degree and ucas on weapons engineering im wondering somone help who is in navy
good vid, nice to see one which isnt full of retards or with shit music. The navy needs to make some new up to date videos without the usual cheesey music with a moronic chump doing a guided tour
just a small fact about the Royal Navy Merlin, the deck grab deployed from the helicopter to anchor it to the back of a ship is so powerfull that if the ship were to capsize the Merlin (costing over £100,000,000 each) would be pulled down with it.
im in sea cadets now but when im 18 im definetly joining the navy because its the most exciting job because you dont get killed and you go around the world
@73828 an american can join the american navy, unless u got british citezenship, like dual nationality or if uve spent 5 years living in Britain, but i dont think that an american could join the British Navy otherwise
True, a normal American can't join. I've lived in the US all my life save for the last 5 months. After I get a residency waiver, I can join. PS, the residency is lowered to 3 years now.
I've been considering navy as a job career, is it worth going is as an officer, or am i just as good going in as a rating. The money doesnt mean much to me
To be perfectly honest life as a rating can be awful, if I was you officer is the best path to go. It also means once you leave there are more jobs available to you.
Jono...with all due respect, not always true. I was a rating for 10 years. ships flights. Great time! worldwide, left in 87 and carried on with aircraft as a freelance engineer...worldwide ! lol still having a great time !!!
Because funding is restricted. They have never been funded or equiped properly, because tax rises are needed to pay for it. and people dont like that. And considering public expenditure MUST now be reduced... Defense is always top of the list.
Dont minus this just because it emasculates you. its the truth.

what a shame the government are shrinking it week by week, 150 ships that have been retired since 1962...never replaced! thats what the government does best...cutbacks
just look at the suffering the iraq & afghanistan war is causing to people. YOu should think carefully about what you do. THere are some very ugly places out there
Completely depends but overall less time than someone in General Service. A chockhead could be drafted to a CVS and spend all their time on the ship for that draft, or they could be on a squadron that spends most of it's time in Kandahar.
If the training was easy what satisfaction would there be in joining. The training can be long and will be hard for everyone at one stage or another. Have you considered the cadets (any flavour) to help you gain more understanding about the forces? Anyhow no need to rush you've got 5 years before you should start to look at joining anyway,
Na,its not hard, you dont do that much exercise in it all u have to do is pass the tests and when it comes to the assault courses and dartmouth its the effort that u put in.its mostly hand washing ur kit ironing ur underwear and socks and kit to size a4 polishing your boots and putting creasess down your kit and sheets, and enjoying ur spuds. = ) phase 2 is more relaxed though, they dont check ur pockets for dust
if you prepare for basic then its not as hard, if your unfit then yes its gonna be a huge challenge, if you get fit before you go in for basic your gonna get on with it alot easier and have MORE fun ... but dont worry so much cause HMS RALEIGH is there to get you fit :)
Not sure why there are all these guys watching these vids and bad mouthing the RN. Best years of my life they were! I was proud to serve and still am proud that i did. Seems to me there is a little envy in all these bad comments. Either that or they were buggered by some hairy arsed killick stoker.
Loved the video mate, it was quality. Always wanted to join the navy, but got refused this week on medical grounds. Absolutely gutted, so now I'm watching videos like yours on what I'm missing! Keep it up, look forward to more vids
and you were in the navy were you? im guessing you werent because you said "imagine" therfore you dont actually know what it is like. it aint like that at all.
only 2% of the RAF fly planes, and even then you have to be incredibly smart, meet all height requirements etc. if your not going in as an officer i wouldn't recommend any of them. taking for experience anyways.
the romans colonised and integrated many parts of the world and brought a civilised way of life to many. It's not illegal and if the best response you can come up with you must have been pretty stumped, for something intelligent to say. Being Northern Irish I think I'm only too well aware of what goes on. Republicans like to play the Martyrs history is called history because its in the past, move on, stop being bitter.
Irishman you've just made yourself out to be a bit of a Prat. The british troops were sent into Northern Ireland initially to protect the catholic community from sectarian (protestant) organisations, unfortunately the tables turned. Read your history books.
Hey right, I want to join the RN but.. I got a "D" for Maths (GCSE) and actually Science haha hmm.. But IT, English, etc were "B"'s, would I still be able for a place? Or do they just say 'no' to whatever you apply for with fails like mine?
And also, I've passed ECDL (Europe's Computing Drivers Licence) - Would this help me at all?
Kirky, I joined with an e in maths. I went into it as a WS (warfare specialist) 4 years down the road ive passed my GCSE maths at a c grade, also started my a levels. I'm thinking about joining the armed forces and I need some help, trying to do research on it and see what would be best for me.
Options:
Marines - Sounds cool, and they are after all from what I hear THE SHIT.
Airforce- Great living conditions, and you get to fly planes.
Navy- I heard they have decent living conditions, and they're on ships, which is cool
Army- Seems kind of stereotypical to me
Please tell me the goods/bads of each

Nice trip to Nassau that, rather dismayed you didn't get any film of the WAFU overboard in the Mid Alantic during your sport's day.
Well done to the crash boat crew I say. SOrry I couldn't join you on the signal deck to bronze every day, but someone had to send your emails.
Best trip on the Argus though, but as my first was 5 weeks of BOST with 2 of the captains around.
However, you'll never meet a better bunch than an RFA crew and the foods great.
