  • old school for life , ill never buy a lil wayne song

  • Thanks for this video, I've learned more old skool songs example EPMD the beat is hot and the rhymmes too. The Slick Rick joint etc.

  • OMG EVERYONE STFU. Because two or three mainstream rappers fucked up DOES NOT MEAN all of mainstream fucked up. Stop being so simplistic. If you were born when old school rap was started then stfu cuz your opinion on new school rap is most likely bias. If you were born into new school rap then stfu cuz your opinion on old school rap is most likely bias. and if your just saying mainstream sucks cuz everyone else is saying that, then stfu. Half of all you dont know what youre saying

  • Eric B. & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy,

Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, MC Lyte, Beastie Boys, Juice Crew, Queen Latifah, MC Shan, EPMD, Slick Rick... bad hip hop's turn... UNK, Soulja Boy, Yung Joc.

  • yep i agree.. there was a time when "new school" actually meant something.

its a weird phase we are in i mean i don't think its only in music.

  • The older stuff has much harder beats and the rap is upfront without being offensive. The new stuff does very little for me, it is not my thing. I want hiphop to progress but the direction its going in is wrong. All of the elements that made hiphop interesting are being left out, scratching, sampling, graffitti, breaking, bass, drum machines, analog synths, reverb, echoe box, swing, creativity, space, clear and melodic vocals. The new stuff sounds chinese to my ears.

  • OLD SCHOOL IS THE BEST

  • I really like the old Hip Hop but my friends keep saying it's "TOO SOFT".

    2 words!

    FUCK EM!

  • this is officially my favorite video thank you for making this

  • Now this is real, these fools would go toe to toe and not break a sweat with all these young bucks who have to yell to get their meaningless point across .

  • way do you not include N.W.A?

  • Nice selection of the classics. I have less hate for most of the current stuff-- it just doesn't usually move me, I don't see it as innovative or generally deserving of respect. If you haven't already, check out D-nice's vimeo channel of True Hip Hop Stories for more on the pioneers.

  • one of the best rap songs ever is KRiss KRoss DROp the bomb and warm it up,,,,THEM Kids CAN RAP they dont get talked bout now but they are real hip hop

  • The beat for "Paul Revere" was so inventive and innovative. It's crazy that they managed to make a song over a beat playing in reverse.

  • Its simple, when this first came on, you where moving your hands and mouthing the words, when todays bull comes on, you change the station, pop in a cd, or go to satellite radio to the old school station! We all know that todays music won't last past its year and this kind of rap will last forever! Some might agree and some might not, but's that's ok, I'm LGKids, I'm used to it and ready for any comment that comes my way...........................

  • I feel sorry for the cats that weren't there to see HIP HOP at it's peak. Everyone says the single best year was 94, that's mainly because of Pac and Biggie, but 88 was sick. I remember going to summer school and PE, Rakim came out within one week. Sick Rick, Big Daddy Kane's best, Seta, EPMD, NWA, Eazy-E, BDP's best album, LL's best album all came out. It was sick. Did I mention Ultra Magnetic (at that time it was considered the best album ever)! U kids just don't know how great it was.

  • @lamareaton

Ultra was and still is awesome to listen to. That is just pure hip hop.

  • I wish I can slap Soulja Girl and Lil Wang hard all the way back to the 1980's so they can get dissed by all the shit they rap about today. If they flow they way they do today back then people would of thrown shit on them and these people would smack their asses all the way back in time!

  • Nice... really nice. People remember this is a comparison between old school and whatever they want to call todays rappers. Kinda wish there were more KRS-1, EPMD, MC Lyte, Public Enemy, Eric B/ Rakim, Dr. Dre, Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Eazy E, & Whodini raps. Oh yeah, I just cannot forget about TUPAC SHAKUR. Maybe a few off of his first two albums.

  • how you go from 2pac rakim slick rick big l, ll cool j big daddy kane you kno real mc's krs one to people like soulja boy and gucci manne and shawty low i dont understand i mean even wayne startin to get a lil wack wit this rock shit, i mean there are some new rappers who i consider real mc's like cassidy lil wayne sometimes jay-z still i mean this guy j cole is nice and lupe fiasco but rap really fell off

  • I love the beat and vibe of old school rap. Their lyrics are hilarious, creative, and just addictive. So simple and pleasing.

  • Long live old school HipHop!

  • I don't blame Soulja Boy on how the way music is now. I blame the people.

    1. Who signs rappers now?

    2. Who buys rapper's music?

    3. Why are these songs always on the #1 spot in charts and billboards? Even 106 & Park.

    4. What do people talk about in their conversations?

Like I said. The people are to blame.

  • consumers right? I have to agree

  • could have said it better sketcha like my man immortal technique said "If your message ain't shit fuck the records you sold because if you go platinum its got nothing to do with luck it means the a million people are stupid as fuck....."

  • of course but it's people that are making that stuff they call music

  • soulja boy didnt kill hip hop at all hes not that popular gosh why is every1 on soulja boy seriosly

  • @sketcha09 Yes but when you control the airwaves you control the people. If you keep throwing shit, eventually some of it sticks. Kids are easily influenced and what we are witnessing is a form of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, not just the purchasers but the artists that believe they are talented.

  • @sketcha09 ..YEP..YEP..

  • the golden era is gone and its a shame.

  • after 9:10 it's just shit

  • the difference is between the late 70s and 94, that was hip hop...95 % of the stuff nowadys is utter sheet...and the majority is just bout money...im a legit hip hop fan, and im sad to say its dead...i still buy plenty of vinyl but only the golden era that we will never get back..

  • Im just wondering why after 9:10 you just kept playing the same song over and over.

  • Haha I feel you homey they all sound the same.

  • im 14 and i love old school hiphop and aussie hiphop.... i would much much much rather biggie than soulja boy and so on..... old scool hiphop has great words that flow together and the link doesnt stop but this new school stuff is shit that just repeats itself. like soulja boy...WTF are u rapping about superman... couldnt think of anything better?? oh well thats my opinion

  • true too true ever since 2000 came around it went to shit

  • even rock musice went to shit too, with the exception of nickelback.

  • i listen to UK Grime

  • i tried and tried to understand why so many dumb motherfuckers like lil wayne and i just cant seem the get it.

lots of similies and metaphors? best rapper alive? achieved the most EVER?

have these dumb motherfuckers heard of geto boyz, brand nubian, orgainized konfusion, black star + more?

  • thats exactly what i'm saying i'm only 14 i can't get why these kids like this it just doesn't click to me then the rhymes are stupid and kids like it

  • thank you everyone but a few people i talk to agree with me lil bitch is so stupid. id rather chill to some old school. im 15

  • Old Hip Hop was the greatest. These dude's fought for respect but some of these new school cats only care about Money and Coochie man what a shame.

  • that's what the youth cares about, walk into any high school in Philly (where I'm from) and you wont be hearing conversations about how their hood is falling apart, those dudes are gonna be braggin about how much pussy they got last night. It's not the music, it's the people.

  • Yeah it is the people and the thing about it is that this isn't about old school against new school. It's mostly about good music versus wack music cause that's all i'm hearing but Kid Cudi's (Day & Night) song is kinda good.

  • Is this a fuckin joke?

Im tired of these fuckin videos comparing old skool to the new.

Its painfully obvious, the new skool is WACK!!

80's and 90s by a fuckin mile, All Day, dawg

It only further pisses me off. All the good new HH is underground.

    Peace out

  • the game done changed... and i don't like it. i'm happy with my 90's

  • dammmnnn all them tracks is fire, Dis is wat all these yung niggaz need 2 focus on. instead on all that comercial new school bullshit. 5 stars dis is goin 2 my favs.

    -HipHopHead187-

    1....

  • whats the beastie boys song in the video??

  • i was jaming to this shit hard untill you put on dat bullshit ass soulja b bulllshit....fucked up my whole mood

  • haha exactly!

  • LMFAO hell yea that stupid walk it out bull shit came outta nowhere that soujabitch shit came, i waz like aww shit!!!! nah!!!!

  • lyrical manifestation... these weak cats nowadays can spit heat with intelligence like this for nuthin', lol.

  • i meant they CAN'T spit heat like this...

  • Whats the song at 7:11?

  • Wrath Of My Madness from All Hail the Queen

  • i fell out laughing out loud when the track switched to the new stuff. i was like, wtf? what happened to the beat? lmao, hahahahaha, where are the real emcee's at like NYOIL? (search for him here on youtube and myspace)

(Wrath of My Madness was the song at 7:11 in response to iAmKidDynamite's question below)

  • A rather pointless way for me to compare old school and new school, but what the hell: Slick rick the very first rapper to sport alot of jewelry, 2pac the very first rapper to be all tatted up and showing it off in his videos, and Too Short the vert first rapper to incorporate pimpin' in his lyrics, nowadays every rapper is tatted up, sporting lots of blings, and rapping about pimpin', see how old school rappers had their own image compared to today.

  • Haha it wasent that pointless homey the younin's just may learn from that comment. Love is love fam stay up!

  • word up i hear u. gotta separate da ill & real from weak & wack. these lil niggaz see da difference.

  • @IHATEROCKNMETAL I hate your name lol......All it does is show that your just a wannabe....your probally white and act black.... Bet I'm right about that hahahaha

  • @bdoginit01 You can hate my name all you like....All it shows is my opinion on what music I don't like, nothing wrong with that....I'm not white nor am I black but you can point out exactly where have I ever once shown any evidence of "acting black"....You're wrong about everything so you lost the bet hahahahahaha.

  • what a fukkin disgrace to to hip hop now, half these people dont even rap about shyt no more but the cars they drive n the amount of drugs they sell....smh

  • to me public enemy was the start of new skool, old school has to be pre-1986

  • i just love the way there are more than twice the number of old school songs than new school! no love for the new school crap!!

  • i seen 5 times as much new school

  • i was talkin in the video

  • that soulja guy makes me laugh every time

  • Very good first song from Rakim - I ain t no joke. He has very good lyrics, that s im damm sure. BTW good video

  • youre right on with this love old scool Rakim Krs One my favorites. The Treacherous Three and Grandmaster Caz define old school hip hop

  • new school cannot compare, its amazing there are still a lot of ppl out there that are die hard old school fans

  • ima a hardcore old school cat from 1979-1998 when music still mattered

  • kool, did u give me a thumbs down?

  • naw not at all. i just read your comment and just basically agreed and gave my favorite times in hip-hop

  • This clip is right on, music nowadays lacks the creative power of old school. Hell I can come with something better, and I got no experience

  • Nice...I miss those days!

  • keep it real, these kids will live 4eva. the average klown rapper today is just prayin to see tomorrow!

  • I love this clip.. old school hip hop is the shiizzitsss lol :)
