yeah i still play total annihilation online but only the original version of the game if you want to know how to get the game and play it online look at my video i made that shows you step by step. I mean the one released in 1997 and believe it or not people still play it online but only 100 or so. which surprises me because its got to be one of the best rts games on pc in that gen
I can see why Supreme Commander is considered to be the spiritual successor to this game now. I may not have been able to get a good glimpse of this game's supposed 3D graphics (from this recording at least), but the gameplay is definitely similar to both Supreme Commander games, especially with the destruction of the enemy commander being the primary objective in multiplayer/skirmish matches.
two of my favorite strategies were to build a massive number of hawks and swarm the commander. or send three dropships and pick their commander up and fly it over to one of their missle turrets and drop the commander. good times :)
@Whisper0ak The game requires that you have the cd in drive D in order to play the music from it. (If your cd drive is labeled E or For whatever, it won't work.) However, the Good Old Games version has the music without need for a cd, so if possible I'd recommend springing for that version.
@SylvesterInk No, it just only can see the first media drive ... so you could have C, D, E as hard drive partitions, and F G H I as virtual CD drives..... the game will expect the music from drive F then.

12 years later and I'm still in awe by how advanced this game was. It truly was waaay ahead of its time. My brand new Quantex Pentium II 350mhz with a wopping 64 mbs of memory (a $2000 system back then) barely managed to run this beauty of a game. I suspect the hardware requirements kept TA from being more popular than SC or C&C. Man I loved watching those air units zip across the map.

This is the only and first ever RTS to introduce many commands, too bad you won;t find similiar commands in today's strategy games like warcraft & C&C.

I like to use the maverick convoy systen, build about 10 bulldogs and send them ahead of the mavericks to act like heavy shields while the mavericks blast away from behind

Well, the music is a lot more mature, I think. Soule has had a lot of time to improve, and it shows. SupCom's soundtrack is more majestic, while TA's is more dynamic. As for the gameplay, I think the main problem people seem to have is that SupCom takes a bit more effort to play because of its larger scope. In comparison to most other RTSs, there's a lot more to be cone.
nad antoher downpart to SC is that some units takes far to long to build, like a big canon takes 136 minits..i mean that is way to far if you dont have like 10 t3 builders on it, and no - on mass ore energy
The Mavor is probably the most powerful unit in the game. Of course it should take an unreasonable amount of time to build. However, in the late game, chances are you'll easily have a good number of engineers (plus an upgraded commander) to help build it, reducing the build time quite a bit. You are right that SupCom does usually have longer games, especially the large ones. I rather like that aspect, but it can be tough on introductory players.

But the point is that these weapons take enormous amounts of resources to build, and an opponent that is properly gathering intelligence can stop them quickly enough. (The Krogoth goes down VERY quickly against a group of mavericks, or a fleet of Hawks.)
First off, I was playing Arm. Arm doesn't have Necro units, and so it can't bring dead enemy units back to life. I could have captured them, but it would have been more trouble than it was worth. I was perfectly satisfied to work within the limits of one race of units.
Dude, 10 shooters will easily beat a Krogoth. And Krogoth TOTALLY isn't worth it with how much it costs and how long it takes, it takes at least like 10 minutes with full build support I think to make.
I've owned the game with both expansions for about 7 years. Shooters can easily beat a Krogoth if they have a decent energy backing. If you still think Shooters fail, 20 some brawlers or a bunch of Mavericks. Krogoths are barely as "godly" as you make them seem.
ive also owned the expansions since there release, krogoths dont take as long as you think to build if u have a vast number of contruction bots, you can easily krogoth spam people into oblivion, and obviously i would never just send one krogoth blindly into a base id pack numerous other units around it, so your shooter theory would not work. your best bet is to set up a line of ambushers
Krogoths aren't the fastest. Plus I typically fire in bursts and mostly play maps with chokes/small paths. I am one for epic defensive lines. Though I'm not too found of Ambushers/Toasters. I <3 the Annihilator though.

i used to love when the AI would come over and try to build extractors on your metal, then you could grab their builders in a transport plane, capture them, and use the other side's technology.
I've got a question what are those anti-missele fortudes for, are they for nukes? wenn i'm playing against the computer they never use those so is that it?
Anti-missile defense is an anti-nuke defense. Basically you have it build missiles, and when it detects an incoming nuke, it shoots the nuke down. And yeah, the AI doesn't use nukes, so it's only useful in multiplayer. (Where people send waves of 10 nukes at a time.)
you can actually download a custom nuke silo unit that the AI can use to launch nukes. You might also need a new AI... try google for "shonner" and "ta" and youll find very well written instructions for his favorite AIs who actually play much better and launch nukes..
I definitely don't see any strategy here. You move guys forward and win. Add that to the fact that microing is really hard/useless and you have a game with nothing to be good at but massing. RTS games are more conducive to micro than strategy, and when they have neither they suck. The only RTS I've played that I would say is very strategic was Rome Total War, and that was totally different. So, yeah, TA, definitely not strategic. Maybe Supreme Commander is, I'll have to check it out.

Those units are from the Core Contingency expansion pack. Also, the TAUniverse website has links to tons of user-made units, though they aren't always quite as balanced.

it seems your download is just the game.. if you buy the original you need to have the cd in when you play to hear the music.. Perhaps you need to burn yourself a cd and put it in..
the fusion power plant of core looks a way better than the arms, just like the metal extractors and metal makers, such as the wind generators, tank plants, aircraft plants, they look a waaaaaay better than the arms!!!

Some of those units are found only in the Core Contingency expansion. For the perfect install, you'll want Total Annihilation, the Core Contingency expansion, the Battle Tactics expansion (not necessary, but for the maps), the last patch, and the bonus units from Cavedog. Check out the TA Universe website for details. (Google it.)
*!IMPORTANT!* Fusion Power Plants have much more hitpoints so there will need about 10 loadairplanes to completely destroy those. And dont forget to load them with spiderbombs ofcourse LoL.
Then send it straight forward on the outside line of the map. Then you arrive in the enemy's base!( Your VALKYRIES/ATLASSES ARE STILL UNHARMED!) Then fly into the map again(YOUR VALKYRIES ARE IN THE CENTRAL OF YOUR ENEMY'S BASE, THEY HAVE PAST ALL THE DEFENSES) and seldestruct! BOOM!!!!!!!!!! The possibity is high that you'll hit important things, like Big Bertha's and energy weapons or moho mines, this weakens your opponent hardly!
oh and a nice thing from atlasses and valkyries is, that the turning is very weird, it is sort of slipping trough the air when it is on top speed and when is it making a 'corner'. so use it to your advantage!
Fly towards the end of the map and then you make a 90degreece 'corner' it flies out of the map! then you send it straight forward of the line of the map. press 'T' and u can c where it goes.
And another nice strategy build atlasses and spiderbombs(NOT ROACHES BUT THE OTHER ONES FROM ARM) and load them and bring them into the enemy base and then selfdestruct LoL, f****NG AWSOME MAN! You cam destroy whole big bertha's and lots of heavy tech lvl 2 or 3 things man!
And by the way this is a very small lab for 3 players man you cant build a huge base in this map, thats probably why your resources are in the middle of the map, very weird man! And where are the big bertha's?? the bombers! the gunships!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And why do you gather these noob soldiers, planes are much more effective man!
Oh yeaah and why are your resources gatherers in the middle of the map, they should be protected by your standing guntowers and stuff, the factories should be around it! maaaan....

I cant get my game music to play in game. In the music options its says "No Disc", and I do indeed have the game disk in. anybody know a solution?

I still hold TA as my all time favorite RTS. Supreme Commander doesn't cut it for some reason.
I never played with the CDs in the drive though. I love this music. I'm going to have to go back with the music for sure.

I've got a question what are those anti-missele fortudes for, are they for nukes? wenn i'm playing against the computer they never use those so is that it?

Anti-missile defense is an anti-nuke defense. Basically you have it build missiles, and when it detects an incoming nuke, it shoots the nuke down. And yeah, the AI doesn't use nukes, so it's only useful in multiplayer. (Where people send waves of 10 nukes at a time.)

You have to install the TA Demo Recorder mod, which can be found on TAUniverse. It fixes the DirectDraw rendering so TA works fine with FRAPS.

you can actually download a custom nuke silo unit that the AI can use to launch nukes. You might also need a new AI... try google for "shonner" and "ta" and youll find very well written instructions for his favorite AIs who actually play much better and launch nukes..

at 32 seconds in your video, how do you set up pre-determined buildings?... Im always doing it manually every time I finish 1...

I definitely don't see any strategy here. You move guys forward and win. Add that to the fact that microing is really hard/useless and you have a game with nothing to be good at but massing. RTS games are more conducive to micro than strategy, and when they have neither they suck. The only RTS I've played that I would say is very strategic was Rome Total War, and that was totally different. So, yeah, TA, definitely not strategic. Maybe Supreme Commander is, I'll have to check it out.

Those units are from the Core Contingency expansion pack. Also, the TAUniverse website has links to tons of user-made units, though they aren't always quite as balanced.

Thanx for posting this. I havn't played this game in over 10 years, just seeing again makes me feel like I'm still small and don't have a care in the world. They really made a great soundtrack for this game.

hey guys i have a problem. i don't have in game music. i resently downloaded the game from the pirate bay(i could't find it anywhere). i downloaded the "TA and everithing made for it" .rar wich is a 1.05Gb torrent. if anyone knows the way PLZ help.

it seems your download is just the game.. if you buy the original you need to have the cd in when you play to hear the music.. Perhaps you need to burn yourself a cd and put it in..

AI mods help with that, this is just basic TA, TA:CC the ai is alot smarter. or just download 3rd party. i twiked my AI to perfection

the fusion power plant of core looks a way better than the arms, just like the metal extractors and metal makers, such as the wind generators, tank plants, aircraft plants, they look a waaaaaay better than the arms!!!

Some of those units are found only in the Core Contingency expansion. For the perfect install, you'll want Total Annihilation, the Core Contingency expansion, the Battle Tactics expansion (not necessary, but for the maps), the last patch, and the bonus units from Cavedog. Check out the TA Universe website for details. (Google it.)

Then send it straight forward on the outside line of the map. Then you arrive in the enemy's base!( Your VALKYRIES/ATLASSES ARE STILL UNHARMED!) Then fly into the map again(YOUR VALKYRIES ARE IN THE CENTRAL OF YOUR ENEMY'S BASE, THEY HAVE PAST ALL THE DEFENSES) and seldestruct! BOOM!!!!!!!!!! The possibity is high that you'll hit important things, like Big Bertha's and energy weapons or moho mines, this weakens your opponent hardly!

oh and a nice thing from atlasses and valkyries is, that the turning is very weird, it is sort of slipping trough the air when it is on top speed and when is it making a 'corner'. so use it to your advantage!
Fly towards the end of the map and then you make a 90degreece 'corner' it flies out of the map! then you send it straight forward of the line of the map. press 'T' and u can c where it goes.

And another nice strategy build atlasses and spiderbombs(NOT ROACHES BUT THE OTHER ONES FROM ARM) and load them and bring them into the enemy base and then selfdestruct LoL, f****NG AWSOME MAN! You cam destroy whole big bertha's and lots of heavy tech lvl 2 or 3 things man!

And by the way this is a very small lab for 3 players man you cant build a huge base in this map, thats probably why your resources are in the middle of the map, very weird man! And where are the big bertha's?? the bombers! the gunships!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And why do you gather these noob soldiers, planes are much more effective man!

Oh yeaah and why are your resources gatherers in the middle of the map, they should be protected by your standing guntowers and stuff, the factories should be around it! maaaan....
