  • i would not mine turing into a feature

  • oh how I miss Octavia Butler. Such a loss.

  • Wow this was awesome! I just finished reading Dawn and loved it. That was a great actor who played Lilith. If you decide to do another scene, please let me play Joseph ;)

  • This is very nicely staged -- nice work with minimal resources. And Ella Thomas makes a great Lilith!

  • Hollywood hasn't run out of good ideas, they just have forgotten where to look.

  • what an exciting find! i love Butler's books. Your efforts are awesome.

  • and oankali didn't have a face.. it was covered by tentacles

  • They had mouths. And Jdahya had patches of cnidocytes growing where a human would have eyes and hair—creating the illusion of both—because he was "designed" for first contact.

  • great acting. i wish Octavia's books could be turned into feature-lenght films.

  • Excellent work! I did a media package of the Patternist series for my Producing class in film school 7 years ago when I first got hip to her. Her work is truly inspiring.

Loved the lighting and direction. Great acting especially for student progject! Keep it up. Fanvids are the highest form of flattery even if the late great Octavia Butler wasn't too keen on the whole moving picture business. :)

  • I read the Xenogenesis trilogy 10 years ago; one of the best books ever.

  • OMG! I am sooo excited to find something like this!! I read almost every one of Octavia's books and I am so mad I just got hip to her last year. She's an awsome author! I wish the alien costume would have been done better too! But the acting is done well. Those of you looking for a different type of author there is Tananrive Due. She has some pretty good books as well. She is a Black horror author. We gotta support our black authors.

  • the actor who played lilith was awesome! i know its been said but it's true, the ooloi's un-ooloi-ness (or was he oankali, i can't remember)was very distracting. great direction though. i would LOVE to see a film adaptation of one of her works. i didn't know that was against her wishes. may she rest in peace.

  • Wow...bravo! I love Butler's works and I have been waiting to see them brought to life on the stage or screen. Great acting, though I agree the ooloi/alien costume was a little lacking. "Speech Sounds" (one of her short stories) is supposed to be adapted for the Masters of Science Fiction series (the first episode is tonight) on ABC...but given the time slot we probably won't get to see it.

  • Fabulous... I've been wanting to see video adaptations. Well done! Fab directing. This should be linked to on OctaviaButler dot net .

  • Wow! Pretty good acting, I must say. Although the costume of the alien could be better. This 3 book series is amazing.......

  • Very interesting. Has someone adapated one of her novels into a play. Is there more?

  • Her books are all very awesome. To my knowledge she didn't want them turned into movies at least. I've not heard of any of them as plays anywhere. When I googled it, I found nothing.

  • Where did you get this clip? Is it a scene from a television movie?

  • Project I directed for film school.

  • Wow. For a film school project, this is awesome. (Although the Oankali needs moar tentacles!) Great shot composition, I love the acting from Ella Thomas, and it's just wonderful to see something from Butler made into a video.
