  • I think I chased this one and rode the 2nd one.

  • I was riding in that train as a little kid that day. I have a picture of me and my dad taken in front of it, and I think my dad's friend who photographed it is one of the guys on the platform. Thanks for posting!

  • @omahadivision Glad you enjoyed it. I've got another run posted of this train going through Arlington on the following day.

  • I wasn't alive in 1995 but i remeber seeing 3985 in in about 2002.

  • Why is she hauling passengers not freight like she was designed for

  • Because this is a special train that ran in 1995, not 1945.

  • cool rail fanning video at union station

  • Thanks for the post! unique vid.

  • Correction to my comments above, MINEOLA, not Magnolia.

  • best runby of 3985 ever

  • That's awesome

  • massive !!!!

  • When is the Challenger passing thru Dallas again? I wish I had known it was in town. Aghh !

  • 3985 last ran between Denver and Pueblo for the Colorado State Fair in August, 2007. Don't think it's been back to Dallas since this was shot in 1995 or so.

  • correction #844 pulled the 2007 State Fair run and its cancled for '08 because of the conflicts with the DNC in Denver at the same time. #3985 smoked some bearings on the 2005 CFD run and is under restoration & hopefully will be ready for the 08 season

  • jp, was this the August 1992 visit departure on Saturday morning? If so, I was there when it arrived the day before in the afternoon. I have shot some nice stills. We chased this Saturday out to East Texas, methinks went thru Magnolia, Tex.

  • No, it would have been after I arrived in Dallas, which was '94. It was on a Sunday.

  • @mazzo99 yes hope 844 goes to Dallas soon too

  • Challenger reminds me of 1218, too. I'd love to see her in person.

  • Superb. The sheer scale of it takes your breath away.

I heard they called it the EARTH SHAKER. thanks for posting.

  • N&W 1218 was also a earth shaker. I heard from one guy that photographed her back in the late 80s early 90s that he felt her 2 miles away.

  • don't forget the hooter whistle! the whistle along shook the ground. hopefully there will be a change in personel and NS will reinstitute their steam prog.

  • NS could make a mint in excusion traffic in the Ohio valley........

  • a few years ago, the 3985 Crossed the Mississippi on the Overland Route on the former C&NW Bridge in Clinton Iowa....Bet the Bridge operator wished he was bolted to the ground that day!
