  • No, it didn't.

  • Wow what an anti-american, ultra-liberal piece of filth this guy is

  • @MazeleyFanClub Well he's British so I don't know why you'd expect him to be American. It's hardly outlandish to suggest that the most rapidly growing economic superpower might play a prominent role in international politics following an economic downturn in its competitors. In fact it's a pretty safe bet.

  • US military spending is nearly as much as the entire world. They're not setting the agenda next decade? I don't think so.

  • @Ginlah In the early 20th century, America became the richest country in the world but was still militarily inferior to Britain. From the start of the 20th century till the US entry into WW2, the world's economic and military dominant powers were two separate countries. This is Ash's point. While America may retain military supremacy for a while, its economic supremacy will fade and it will not be able to impact world affairs the same way it does when it had BOTH economic and military dominance!

  • would love to hear an asian perspective as, arguably, there has been more change in this decade over in asia than in the west; Ash's comments smack of a slight provincialism. sad to say an english speaker may not be able to do justice to world history in the coming years :/

  • @rebharath Provincialism? this guy was the one that predicted the fall of the Soviet Union when the enormous hundreds of CIA analysts got all their facts wrong. He is indeed a very smart person i wouldn't take any of his comments lightly.

  • My analysis at the time was that the Bush plan failed when half the US fleet sailed back to Iraq, remember? The plan as put by PNAC collapsed. It had been a 'two war' plan, second war to be Panama. Republicans had come to believe their own propaganda. self delusion party. what if it hadn't been all lies? the weakest minds. a lesson for everybody. how monsters become born. We must live by honesty and reason. sentience is a struggle, we require informed debate. the alternative is less human.
  • LOL! @ 1:55 - 2:04 -- "...in 2 1/2 years, er-uh...in 2 1/2 hours...it felt like 2 1/2 years..." that must have been a very painful conversation.

  • Even if this guy is right, the title of the video is wrong. American global dominance was still with us in the Bush era. It would be the Obama era which marks the end, or whatever this era should be called. Bush perhaps was the last desperate grasp on power, but it has not yet ended. We will know. When the dollar can no longer buy Chinese goods and oil, then it will be over.

  • The USD will buy Chinese goods for a LONG time, probably much longer than either of us will live to see. With Obama supporting science, education, alternative fuels, we may actually make some progress (if he ever becomes a man of action, that is). Science and technology is what will keep us on (or near the) top. Regardless, I don't see any BIG changes in the next 10 years.

  • I think you're right, but I suspect for reason other than you list.

  • If Obama truly supported quality education, he'd end the public monopoly & allow freedom, competition & choice. But that is something he will never do.

If he truly supported science that improves lives, he'd allow consumer needs to direct innovation & research instead of political agendas. That is also something he will never do.

  • lol

    I am sure

  • When are humans going to learn that global cooperation is the only way to survive in the long run?

  • Maybe so but who should administer that co-operation? Who will elect the administration? I'm guessing it will probably be run by a bunch of Megalomaniacs and tyrants. Not sure how that's gonna be good in the long term.

  • You can't administer cooperation. Lasting peace must come from free people choosing it. It can not be forced. Either it happens on a voluntary basis or it does not happen at all.

  • Get that man a pop filter! B\ Oh, and satinbarbi, I think it's a little more complicated than that. B\

  • Globalism destroyed America. My job went tp India or China is what killed America. Corporations killed America. Small, hometown business can still save America.

  • Then start a new business in the U.S. and try to make it profitable for 10 years. Do that and then see if your thoughts on this matter haven't changed.
