  • save up, pack your bag and blast this track on the highway out of town ... may you find the wonderful stranger inside

  • Why do i love all NIN songs? Oh i know! It's because Trent Reznor is fucking awesome! Agreed?

  • Why'd you pick me up? Why'd you take me out

of my fucking house and kill my parents with me?!

  • I still recall the taste of your tears. <3

  • this song is maddd fucking depressing, but its so epic

  • NBK

  • Grey is my favorite color

  • Everything went black

  • This is the last song I will ever hear

  • @HereInTheDarkness Think about it long and hard.

  • I had a deep obsession over this song years ago... I would listen to it every night. Because somehow, every single precious thing I wanted or longed for in life, was 'Something I Could Never Have...' :}

  • Grey would be the color...if I had a heart

  • nobody makes epic music like this anymore.

  • song is so epic

  • D.B.K.

  • Great song, loved it in Natural Born Killers

  • I used to listen to this album while my parents were divorcing. SUPER hard time for me. Almost evil considering all that went on. I die every time I hear this.

  • @amyleoness ...........Wow. Deep.

  • something i can never have ---> Peace

  • This song fucking speaks to me

  • great song !!!

  • This song reminds me of the darkest time in my life.

  • @xX4P47HYXx ...........The darkest time in your life has not arrived yet. The loss of your parents will be the darkest.

  • @chrissline77 Evidently you didn't know what I was referring to :|

  • Dylan Klebold.

  • @DiseasedBagel scrolled down to that name as i opened the video and it gave me shivers. the piano made me think of some slideshow of an aftermath of columbine

  • I haven't listened to this song in at least a year and I woke up this morning wanting to listen to it. odd.

  • drugs make it go away for a lil awhile makes me forget that i want something i can never have !

  • this song rocks but its chillin too...........

  • It is like he carved a tunnel to the DMT trip!

  • Search for "rainy mood" and play it together with this

  • @Futinger perfection

  • You can feel this song best sober. Raw, uninterupted, emotion.

  • I can't even remember how many times I would listen to this song over and over and over when I was a teenager. It just described everything so perfectly.

  • @RedDwarffs Depends on the religion and people. You can say that atheism is hateful and inhuman. :p But I think if we can agree that killing is never right, revenge is wrong, having empathy, compassion towards anyone including enemies, and all you need is love and it makes all those things easier to do. :)

  • @AngelGhostchild Bullshit. When have atheists driven planes into buildings or held crusades to wipe out an entire belief system? Religion is the reason the world is so fucked, not atheism.

  • @speciesofpositive wow, very well said. I'm catholic, but open to everything. Anything is possible.

  • @speciesofpositive That is pure ignorance. Don't you dare label athiests, agnostics and believers as good or bad. That is prejudice. You can't "justify things like hatred and violence to oneself, it is wrong all the same." It's people like you who help divide the world with their prejudices and chosen ignorance. I am personally against that and no matter if you're agnostic, athiest, religious acts of hatred, violence, and greed are unjustifiable. Please try and rid yourself of your prejudices.

  • @AngelGhostchild

Did you even read my comment? I'm simply stating the facts, little girl. Are you denying the fact that 9/11 was about religion? Are you too uneducated to know about the Spanish Inquisition? Or is it that you actually believe in manifest destiny and that a "god" told the European settlers to steal all of the land that I'm guessing you live on (based on your attitude) from the native tribes of North America? Any way you cut it, religion is a brutal tool used for control.

  • @speciesofpositive I read you comment. I disagreed and said why. Anything can be used as tool when it comes to humans. 9/11 was the beliefs of some people, not everyone in that religion supported it. But you said when have athiests done anything wrong, what about bombing Hiroshima and Nagaski? That's what I was saying. I believe humans like to say they do bad things in the name of God as an excuse, when infact God is against them. I don't believe in coincidences, there's reason for everything.

  • @AngelGhostchild Hiroshima and Nagasaki really don't help your argument. Paul Tibbets and Charles Sweeney were both Christian men. "I believe humans like to say they do bad things in the name of God as an excuse" I agree with this statement completely (besides the part that was omitted about a man in the sky who was against them)

  • @speciesofpositive It's not really an arguement. The entire time I was trying to point out that what people do is their choice and their own beliefs and not to say think that all people who believe in one thing or another are bad. You said at the beginning "When have atheists driven planes into buildings or held crusades to wipe out an entire belief system? Religion is the reason the world is so fucked, not atheism."

  • @AngelGhostchild I was saying it's not true. There are people who are athiest who are not nice people and their are people who are religious who aren't. It's the people and their own personal beliefs. I was also trying to point out that you can't have one bad person represent everyone, that's not fair or right. It's like saying all Americans are violent and stupid because one person who was from there was. There's also lots of people with religious beliefs who've done good things.

  • @AngelGhostchild What a person believes or how they act is their choice. I will say any person who believes in God and the Bible then kills people, well, they definitely got it screwed up. If you ever read a Bible you'd know that's not what it's about but there's lots of people who have religious beliefs and do something stupid and then everyone thinks that all of them are bad or think or act that way. Really, what's always been a problem with the world is just human beings in general.

  • @speciesofpositive

hey mister high in mighty with all the evil around whether people or demons yes demons or evil entities are you ready to say that there is no evil? You cant can you?? So there is and the vote is unominous if there is evil there is good and people misinterpret the wants of our God yes Our God when your dead your going to want to go up not down. Try dying some time it really sucks if you dont believe in God! But that is your choice good luck w/that!!!!

  • @czarntrev I CHALLENGE YOUR LORD TO STRIKE ME DOWN! Only fools believe in foolish fairytales.

  • @speciesofpositive repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here..... tool...

  • @speciesofpositive

My friend I am no fool and I believe in that so called fairytale. I judge you not but don't judge my belief on anyone's actions but our Lord's.

  • This song gives me a feeling of dread...

  • Banana

  • aceswild87 should just change that post to "pwned"

  • Hey, thanks for uploading.

I admire black screens with lyrics on the bottom.

No sarcasm here mate, really thank you :3

  • Look beyond yourself..... "Just because someone bashes something, doesn't mean they are insecure" Repeat it a few times, you might just get it. You should think about something other than yourself before insulting pepople. You hadn't bullied anyone, and you'll notice that I hadn't said anything about you, yet you call me a Moron because you are too fucking stupid to realise that It's called sarcasm, and you have the audacity to insult me. Away and throw a shit at yourself. Moron.

  • why on earth is religion coming into this? Fantastic track by Trent, christian is neither here nor there...

  • This song is a double edged sword for me. It's incredibly beautiful, yet at the same time, every time i hear it I think of my son of a bitch EX girl friend.

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and still one of my favourites after all these years. Reznor for lifetime achievement.

  • I love this song(: thanks for making this video.!

  • belive in people not just music people are the future just a shame most of us dont belive in our fellow man sad future where no one respects what someone else has to share. thumbs up 4 those that wish for a better tomorrow

  • Trent is a musical god! his music had dragged me out of many downward spirals!

  • TRENT IS GOD!

  • poetry compliments of nin. beautiful.

  • great song from a graet album

  • Thank you, Nine Inch Nails, for understanding how I feel.

  • My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore

Scraping through my head, till I don't wanna sleep.

    Anymore.

  • Thank you PiercingDUSK for not trying to put some cheesy imagery over this beautiful song. Black screen was perfect.

  • @TougherThanYou dam right about that... lol

  • @TougherThanYou yes it was. Thats the color i think of when i listen to this song.

  • this was in gears of war 3

  • was footage removed from this or is the black screen intentional? It kinda suits, so I just wondered...

  • This song speaks to me...no honestly, I've never had a song that just gets to me years and years after listening to it.

  • just a fading fucking reminder of who i used to be

  • they got me with this one. big time.

  • this is one of the most personal songs i've heard from them, every time i here it, it hits me

  • @dogofdog1018

years ahead of its time? It is a total ripoff of the song "In My Garden" off of SWANS' Children of God, released in 1987.

  • @KenBlankinschwitz youre an idiot

  • @KenBlankinschwitz look up that song this idiot suggested nin ripped off and respond

  • @KenBlankinschwitz

What is? Please, tell me, I can`t go looking up the dude`s comment... And I can`t go hear the Swans song, even though I have it, because every time I try to listen to them, er... I don`t feel very well after that, lol. I do respect them, but I don`t enjoy their music...

  • good song, i'm new to NIN but i liek this quite alot ^^

  • no more talking about flyleaf. it's bad enough i have to see them in the side bar. and as the subject was earlier, being Christians doesn't make them any better or any worse. besides, they reject that they are due to bad publicity. so they are posing to be Christians who are posing to not be. that's why i don't listen to them, they're fakes! :P

  • @OneNationUnderMe you cant relle deny it by singing the songs flyleaf does

  • @metrobeat but they still do XP

  • I know a man who this song makes me think of. Thumbs up if u have sum1 this song makes u think of!

  • greatist song in the world, peorid.

  • @Trainwreck1415 greatest speller in the world period!

  • @TheWowmart ha ha nice, your comment was funny. ;)

  • black image is fantastic with the song the darkness of human nature

  • Haha homemade porn in the suggestions.

But this is better than porn.

  • This song is #1 on the soundtrack to my life

  • flyleaf does this song well, too.

  • BLOODY FUCKING AMAZING

  • Haunting.

  • This is about heroin addiction, isn't it?

  • @dfshjb44 Maybeeeee :)

  • Comment removed

  • @dfshjb44 no...its about a lost love of his...that he wanted to reconnect with badly I guess...he looked her up a few years later and found out she was pregnant and I believe about to be married to someone else. His song about heroin addiction is "Hurt".

  • This is very enspiring. It makes me want to write a novel.

  • This is the most gut-wrenchingly painful song I have ever heard.

  • @fl0nk11

I agree..... this song pulls so heavy at not just my heart or gut but all of my insides.. it's indescribable

  • This was my favorite song when I was a kid.

  • I put this song in one of my student films, and I could tell a lot of my colleagues were shitting their pants when it came up! The POWER of NiN!!!

  • Thank you, NIN. Thank you for understanding.

  • grey would be the color, if i had a heart

  • Is it just me or is anyone else seeing just black?????

  • @sazzycool1975 It's the video.

  • Im sick of it!!! All day all night I hear people talk shit about stupid crap. We all have things that make us who we are... get over it. I Love this song cause it reminds me of the stupid things I was involved in and someone who I will always love but who will always be too screwed up to realize it.

So I really don't want to hear who was better, cause it really don't matter. WE Live WE Die, and who Really Gives A F*^%

  • I used to listen to this song back in the mid nineties.

  • "Gray would be the colour,if I had a heart"

God I remember when I thought that counted for me.

  • Dude.. Who says I am bashing nin fans? Its the NIN fans bashing the crap outta flyleaf, and christians. The only person I bashed was the epic moron who hated on christians

  • What's with all the hate on this song?

Flyleaf is a good band to some people(not me, of course)

Christian's aren't weak, it takes major trust to follow a religion blindly.

I'm not Christian, infact I don't have a religion, but I did grow up around a religious family so I know how Christians are. There's nothing wrong with religion, now everyone shut up about it.

OH, by the way. Nine Inch Nails is the shit.

  • Everyone Flyleaf coverer this song since they are fans of NIN they arent trying to compete with Trent theyre paying him a tribute

  • That song was boring. It's probably not the bands fault but the song was boring.

  • NBK..."its the 1990s...a mans gotta have a lil variety...a mans gotta have choices..."

  • Who the fuck are Flyleaf?

  • Fucking Flyleaf? Really?? You guys are kidding, right?! Please tell me you're fucking kidding!

  • wtf?! is wrong with you !! yeah maybe you like nine inch nails better but don't bitch about flyleaf cause they rock too !!

  • Sorry the comment from zinozigaldi666 was me. He'd left his account signed in. I still stand by my point though. I was really looking forward to listening to this song as I quite like the band but the fans comments really took the joy out of this song for me.

  • @vampirewaves So don't read them. Comments usually piss me off no matter what vid I'm watching, so I only read them when I couldn't give a shit.

  • @zinozigaldi666

I know right? Some people are just a little off these wonderful days and fearsome nights.

  • Flyleaf's was the first version i listened to, but the original is way better.

  • NIN PWNS

    Flyleaf fails..

it's as simple as that :)

  • If you listen to Flyleaf....youre not worthy of listening to Nine Inch Nails.

  • who sang this song first? flyleaf or nine inch nails?

  • @ThexEternalxFantasy Is that a serious question? *facepalm* Nine inch nails sang it first.....

  • who wrote the original song? flyleaf or nine inch nails?

  • @StellarMiracle LMFAO --- really??? it was nine inch nails, sweetie.

  • @StellarMiracle LMFAO --- really??? it was nine inch nails, sweetie.

  • This song is beautfiul and so true.

  • There is so much going on in the final few seconds of this piece...there is a sound before the final bird's chirp that is like a realization, like a rising against opposition, there is so much power in the ending, I don't know quite how to describe what I feel...

  • This is absolutely haunting...

  • I used to love cutting to this song..so freeing. Beautiful <3

  • @MollyMelissaDugan Uuuuhhhhh, weird.

  • SAD SONG BUT GREAT SONG REMINDS ME OF MY TEENAGE BESTFRIEND MALISSA!!

  • @piperjolien Lolk.

  • Something I can never have, her name is Aleksandra... :(

  • Holy shit there are some long comments. *SMH* just listen to this madd ass song and there will be nothing left to say...<3

  • @999duhast really? man, rammstein is EPIC; my very first metal band, ordered the sehnsucht album, now i have the first 5. i still remember learning the song buck dich (or is it buch dich?) with my buddy, and learning the little whistle intro from engel, and headbanging to eifersucht. but i digress; trent? medoicre voice at best, but his emotion makes him a brilliant vocalist, imo of course.

  • @999duhast i dunno man, he cant sing like the truly great vocalists out there, but hes great because of his EMOTION, same as willie nelson, he cant sing for SHIT, but the emotion in his voice is extraordinary, and thats why people flock to his sound; not my cup of tea, but i respect both men for being raw and honest and emotional in their music. i think theres a difference between a SINGER and a VOCALIST. josh groban equals singer. bob dylan equals vocalist, know what i mean?

  • @999duhast Rolling Stone is a damn popularity contest. They listed the guy from the Ramones as one of the best guitar players of all time. It has nothing to do with talent.

  • @Darkside626 it shouldnt have to have anything to do with talent man. it should have everyhting to with musicality, know what i mean? the WAY you form the songs, not the skills used to play em. look at johnny cash, hes a "terrible" guitarist, but hes still one of the best in my book. kurt cobain, same thing; hell, im better than kurt by skills, but i cant make a song like kurt can. mark kozelek from sun kil moon is another example of this.

  • This song describes everything that happened in the past 4 years for me.

  • @999duhast neither does Bob Dylan, I would still rather listen to him than most singers with perfect pitch

  • 32 people are dumbasses

  • @Schwang17 for sure. i fuckin' love trent and NIN.

  • I have always imagined Trent playing the piano by the ocean at night as winter waves pound the shoreline...

I have referenced this song in Chapter 1 of my forthcoming novel...

  • @MikeBurke1974 i actually plan on referencing it in a short story im working on. mostly inspired by the movie "the road", with viggo mortenson, thus meaning my story is post apocalyptic. NIN, pearl jam, johnny cash... will all be refernced in it, i thought it fitting to add.

  • A superb song about depression. I wouldn't recommended listen to it though if you were suicidal.

  • Agreed, my brother committed suicide while listening to this song@kazimann

  • in th background it sounds as if they were in a factory while the machines were running

  • @thraxx457 Hints the genre Industrial ;)

  • @thraxx457 "Industrial" Metal.

  • @thraxx457 that's the whole point my friend. This cd was made the same year I was born. Trent Reznor is a brilliant man who creates art, not music.

    Industrial = machine like

  • @thraxx457 Hence the term industrial.

  • @thraxx457 Nevermind, I see a million people have pointed it out already! Sorry :)

  • This song takes me to such a dark place.....love it!

  • @MikeBurke1974 I didn't know it was Nine-Inch Nails originally... Mad kudos to them, it's a really well-written song: I'm just a big believer in emotion in music, and his voice just doesn't catch it as well (in my opinion) I guess it all depends on opinion and taste

  • this shit is mad depressing its epic reminds me of my ex gf man i can relate to this so much

  • Speed the song up in a sound editor, you get something pretty awesome

  • *shiver* I love it

  • he's excellent, congratulations to the singer for the Oscar nomination

  • This song reminds me so much of the Underworld films. Should have been the soundtrack for the third film, rise of the lycans, fits the storyline in opinion. :)

  • What the hell is wrong with you people that think "Flyleaf" does a better version? Flyleaf is nothing but a bunch of christian pussies. How can they even be compared to NIN?

  • @jasonkosola They have no minds, and no business talking about real music.

  • @jasonkosola I'm a Christian and have considered Trent to be a musical genius for quite some time. While I can't really roll with all of his songs as I did before I got saved, this one in particular is still a favorite. That said, I'm no p***y and far from the stereotypical Christian. I'll say this: Sometimes it takes more courage to love than to hate.

By the way, I'm no Flyleaf fan...

  • @jasonkosola THIS VERSION SUCKS COMPARED TO FLYLEAF.
