Also people edit the parts of the song they want and if they can't edit the full song, they cut it. No one is obligated to edit a full song if they don't feel like doing it.

you can download a trial version, but it only lasts for about 30 days, which isnt a very good amount of time to learn or do anything :p

It depends which version you get Sony Vegas Pro 8 is the expensive one. I got the download of version 9.0 for around £38/$56 - it's not got masking tools like Pro 8, but it's still really good.
