"And I'm playing a typing game...because I can." That made me smile, such a small sentence with so much triumph and happiness behind it. And even though I don't know you, it made me feel very glad for you (^.^) Best wishes!
Chloe, your story inspires and gives hope to so many individuals who continue to have symptoms of myclonic dystonia similiar to yours. My son has been diagnosed with myclonic dystonia. You had your surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Could you share how we could fasttrack the diagnosis and surgery process? Medications (clonazepam, botox, etc) have not helped. Thank you.
That is awesome! We are going to the neurosurgeon today to discuss this surgery for my father who has a TBI. He has tremors like a Parkinson's patient. His life would be so much better is he could stop shaking.
hey I am confused coz in the video it is said several weeks before surgery and why didn't u trim your hair and if u did hw could it be so long in several weeks .wel its only like a demonstration
wow...so u're cured...i see so many difference from before and after... n when i saw the "after" part, i just can say "wow".... im so sad if a pretty girl like u hav to bear that kind of pain, but good thing that u're cured... im just...im really happy to see that, even though im just watching from afar... congratulations Chloe...God bless u ('_~)
I don't know how i got on this topic of video's but i came across your video and i just gotta say what a kick ass story. It's amazing to me that we have the technology and know how to fix problems in the complex networking of the brain. I'm very happy for you, your very beautiful and i hope you have a wonderful life.
im very happy for you, being the father of 3 girls, your mom and dad must be thrilled, good luck with your life, its a great big world out there,Godspeed.
My daughter has Myoclonic Dystonia which is a also a movement disorder that causes jerking and spasms of all the muscles of the body.Jessica's symptoms started when she was about 12 with shaking of her right hand with use. The tremors moved to all extremities and then her torso and head. It took many doctors and years to receive a diagnosis. She has suffered with intense muscle spasms and cramps that can be one area to the entire body at one time. It is very painful and exhausting.
Hi dasey22001, I'm Chloe's mom. Chloe is doing very well these days, reducing her meds, driving again, and studying in university. I would be happy to hear more about Jessica. What treatments is she getting? Are they helping?
I am so pleased the surgery went so well for you Chloe and you can get on with your life without the movement disorder. it must have been very hard to deal with at such a young age. I have a movement disorder similar to yours but I didn't get mine until I was in my 40s. Mine affects my upper body most. I know how uncomfortable it can be when you body does things on it's own!
I just want to brag on Chloe a little (moms do that). She is an honors linguistics student at a major university, and she has spent the summer giving specialized visual exams for an ophthalmologist. In spite of continued low energy levels, she is doing great!
The movements got worse in the evening, and I was still jerking when I would try to fall asleep. But they would start to get slower and calmer as I relaxed, and I guess eventually I would fall asleep between jerks, and once I was asleep they would be gone. Some nights when they were bad I would have trouble sleeping, but it could just as well have been anxiety, which as well as keeping me awake can make the jerks worse. But I really needed sleep; all that jerking was like a constant workout.
Thanks! The surgery this video is talking about is a resection of a heterotopic nodule in the right lateral ventricle. Before that I had a partial right parietal resection. I'm not sure if I said the names of those right. In each surgery, they really only took out a tiny bit.
@chloew90 You got the names right ;) do you remember if you noticed any side effects after your right parietal resection, such as sensory alterations or visual problems of any kind? Just curious.
Hi prelan. While it's true that positive changes can be stressful, most people with illnesses and disabilities function much better if they can be well. (In Chloe's case, the movement disorder only started a few months before the surgery.)
oh right, cool. She's lovely. I had myclonus at the time I wrote the comment, it was a brief bout due to chemical poisoning. Hope ya'll are doin' good
I have cervical dystonia. People came up to me and asked me, "What's wrong with you?" People are so rude! My dystonia is better now because of getting Botox. I don't know what I would do without it. I have other types of dystonia besides cervical dystonia. I have spasms in my stomach and my left foot & I have a limp. I think my stuttering was caused by dystonia as well.
chloew90 I'm glad your surgery went well & I'm happy to see that you can get back to normal activities without the spasms. :-)
Im studying movement disorders as part of my physiotherapy degree and your videos help to put them into context. Im happy that your doing so well, thank you for sharing these videos.
chloe, thanks for sharing that video.. i am doing a presentation on myoclonus and was wondering what type of brain surgery helped you ? any addt'l info you can provide ? thanks
Chloe, thanks for sharing this with us. I learned a lot form it for my study purposes and I wish you and the person holding the camera + your family the best. Your story even reminded me that God works in everyone in a unique way. Cheers.
my daughter has a movement disorder also, did you always have it or did it just start? We live in Il also would love to talk with your parnets. We have also been to mayo but still not for sure the name. Were your movements all the time or off and on? So HAPPY for you that the surgury worked!!
They were all the time except when I was sleeping. Even though it was caused by a birth defect, the movements didn't start until I was 17. If you want, you can send me a private message with your email address and any questions and I can put you in touch with my parents.
Well my brain condition is different from Tourette's, but if you really want to find some kind of surgery, you should do some research. I recommend contacting someone at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota because they have a very good movement disorder clinic. I have heard of brain surgery for Tourette's, but it would be kind-of different.
