Thats not fair Old James is leaving this Easter....I will miss him but I do get to see him in school but what I will miss the most is his leadership, sense of humour and his singing.
@RonanADunne I'm not quite sure, The one thing I hate about singing an Easter mass is the Gospel. We have to stand up for rehearsals (1 hour) then we do the mass which is like (1 hour) and the gospel (30 mins) approximatly. But other than that I'm looking forward on one peice but I cant seem to remeber it because I only sang it once and it sounded like a rock song and my favourite peice is IT IS A THING MOST WONDERFUL by Ireland
James got robbed.....it is a policy of the Judges to pick the boy who is the most "useable" for the needs of the BBC, and that boy might not be the best singer. It happened again in 2009. Toby Hession got robbed.
@RonanADunne I witnessed the last competition. There is no doubt about who sang better that night. Im very sure that they took into account that one boy was very close to the change, and might not be able to make all his appearances as the Chorister of the Year before his change...Therefore the other boy "won" who was a sure bet. The boy that did win is an excellent singer and deserves all the praise in the world, but that night he was #2.
@RonanADunne James is still head chorister? Damn! If had known that I would have visited back in October.....James and the Beatles....what a great combination!
Actually, St. Pauls has wonderful acoustics....but when you add speakers...and poorly at that....it sucks.
i personally think jessica should have won. she had MUCH better tonal quality. and as for the girls not being in the same league as the boys, i agree with surferchick. the pieces chosen wouldn't have reflected their technical ability.
I can't see how age came into it as three of the boys were 12. I think Harry Bradford was chosen because he was thought to be the most technically correct. James had so much more passion though as did David Paynes who was the youngest at 11. David did seem to be very nervous though, bless his heart.
The judges took ages to decide the winners, so much so that Will Martin had to do an extra couple of songs.
Personally I think there was an argument between the judges over who should win and Haley wasn't happy so stormed off, there's a clue in what one of the judges says when they come back, something like "We started and friends and hopefully we still are". LOL!
It was certainly a surprise when they announced the winners.
Yes, in my opinion the girl choice was correct. On the night she was the best, that's not to say the others were not amazing, because they were. She just nailed it though!
anyone can try and solve my theory.........it is posted below to ronan.

Thanks for that.
BTW I thought that the reverb was awful in that cathedral - they should use a 'calmer' one, lol

@RonanADunne It was terrible sitting there hearing it live. The sound people didnt do a very good job.

Our Cathedral, where James is Head Chorister, is quite poor acoustically too.

It's so good to see the choir still electrifying as it was 10 years ago, when I was a member.
Truly, one of the best experiences a child can go through, even if it means singing four nights and practicing five mornings a week :')

Ooo...what do you think of their current Head Chorister then? Have a listen to other recordings of him on here too!

The annoying thing about these recordings is you can't experience how much it echoed around the Cathedral when they all sang.

I can't believe James didn't win, I was at St Paul's that evening and I would have put money on him winning!

SAME!

I am jealous! I wanted to go but wasn't able to. Some of my family saw them rehearsing and said that James was fabulous.
He's even better live!

Thank you - Someone else told me today that they heard James and the others and that they think he wasn't chosen because of his age.....hmmm...
Thanks!

I was at St Paul's. James' performance was by far the best there. Bravo James, bravo indeed. You were robbed.

Also, did you guys think the girl choice was correct?
surferchick0512 3 years ago
All the girls were very good but I thought Jessica should have won. Im a sucker for Panis Angelicus so I could be biased. :)

I was tempted to give the fourth girl my vote just for choosing an interesting anthem!

We thought the girls were...nowhere near in the same league as the boys...
RonanADunne 3 years ago
Can't argue with that :)
drwestbury 3 years ago
But you have to consider that fact that the girls chose easier pieces that may not have truely reflected their abilities
