Energy efficiency and renewable - down 27%

Conservation - down 25%

Solar - down 7%

Hydrogen - down 30%

By the way, $25B is almost exactly equal to the entire DOE 2009 budget proposed by Bush in 2008. Just for some accurate perspective.

the reason for the great depression was because of governement intervention. the republican government during the 1929-32 implemented a policy of protectionism, such as the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, and raised taxes. the Revenue Act of 1932 raised income tax from 23% to 63%. The estate tax was doubled and corporate taxes were raised by almost 15%. THATS WHAT CAUSED THE DEPRESSION. Markets are suppose to have booms and busts. if you try to prevent that you are only gona fuck things up more. Moron!

maybe you should read some more books becuz the gr8 depression was a matter of surplus and credit. the taxes made things worse but in some cases like in louisianna, Huey Long taxed standard oil and was able to put the money into education and public works (though he was a corrupt politician).

In the term "everyone" I include all the banks that borrowed money to buy these loans and stocks just to make a quick profit. I think too much enphasis is on how the individual families bought homes with not so great credit or with little down. I think everyone should have the opportunity to buy a house through subsidized housing or something similar, we would all be better off for it. People would feel a better sense of community and a greater incentive to protect their home and neighborhoods.
