  • volmanvfomxxrhhmmfdq - For the best video in the world, you came to the right place and if interested to make $250, the site in my channel is the place to go! Or here: bit.ly\xkoQ2y?=306 - ah and @BrandonG00 Please review: Alex Walthers -? True Love Cant Be Stopped.

  • The best song is right here! Check it out and also my profile if you want to know how you can get $500. Or here: bit.ly\xkoQ2y?=306

  • Love your reviews, but this one is pretty retarded. The Shins have put out big songs for years champ. This song, while great, is no departure whatsoever.

  • Please review: Alex Walthers - True Love Cant Be Stopped.

  • Nice review, I love the track. I think it's a sign of good things to come for The Shins, even thought this is the first time in my life that I am actually exploring their catalog. Please tell me, how does one ride a bicycle with no handlebars? :P I do agree, though, Simple Song is very liberating. Whenever I ride my bike down the middle of the road, I have this song in my head.

  • I love this song. I feel their sound is getting bolder... Cant wait for the new album

  • The shins are great!!! You terd.

  • meh it was ok i was hoping for something more exciting but i liked it it was ok and good review!

  • So, really, you're more interested in talking about yourself than the song you're allegedly reviewing. I'm out.

  • i like your reviews but your video edits are annoying

  • I think I just spent three minutes listening to someone profess unsolicited ambivalence; I'm unconvinced that's genuine.

  • nothing you state is remotely relevant cept for the pitchforktrackreview-like part, yes you do rehash, which is utterly ridiculous. Spare your shit, who cares a fuck what you were wont to listen to.

  • @weedwAlkerz says the person WATCHING his review...lulz

  • This sounds like it was put out in the 70's I love it > It would have been a big hit Jeff

  • this track is amazing in my opinion

  • Wow, I like this, but it just doesn't compare to something like "Kissing the Lipless" for me.

  • This track reminds me of Boston.

  • Check out my dog reviewing this song on my channel :)

  • If you're looking to see The Shins being more adventurous, check out their b-sides. Songs like "Sphagnum Esplanade" and "Mild Child" are a whole other animal compared to the poppier songs like "New Slang" and "So Says I." "Your Algebra" and "Weird Divide" are pretty good indicators of what to expect from this expanded catalog. I'd actually consider "Saint Simon" as the perfect meeting point between the two.

One I really like is "Pink Bullets," and that also has one of my favorite videos.

  • i have to be honest i liked this before watching the whole thing because you have death grips shirt on

  • I love it. I love the shins. Amazing,

  • I like your reviews, editing, insight. But your voice kind of annoys me. Maybe it's the way you enunciate everything.

  • Anthony. You have to stop making videos. Because every time you make a new video, I see it. And when I see it, I have to watch it. And when I watch it, I end up (usually) buying one or more songs from the reviewed album or such. So please, stop reviewing. Or start reviewing worse music. Smiles.

  • the shins are amazing, but this guy is retarded. he looks like private gomer pile.

  • @ArchonVideo You're quite the charmer.

  • The night Away, I felt no urge to own this song and probably will listen out for the next single with half a heart.

  • Familiar Shins territory, not a must-have and even though I own Wincing yh

  • Sounds great to me.

  • Hey, could you do a review of Highway 61 Revisited and/or Pet Sounds? Thanks!

  • It's great song writing and performance that makes them stand out to me. They aren't the most experimental thing out there. It's just a great sound performed well. Can't wait for the new album!

  • Comment removed

  • ALL SHINS SONGS ARE LIKE THIS SONG. THERE'S A REVIEW.

  • i think the "track reviews" opening is somewhat derivative instrumentally and sung without studied talent or sincere emotion. having said that, and having felt similarly about this artist's previous work, i await the next "track reviews" composition.

    a wavering 6.

  • haha all those indie albums he put up on the screen i love

  • @shauno5166 Same :p

  • Sorry... never answered the question. I like the song... by march I will not because it will be worn out and over listened to. lol

  • .......is wayyy to long to let fans wait for some more great tunes.

  • Wincing The Night Away got me addicted! I like every single song on the album.. I don't think they get the credit they deserve.. mainstream tunes (radio bullshit that get all the exposure and attention for what? "Black & Yellow black & yellow" um NO. Or how about the little Smith girl (no not the Smiths because they are effing awesome) Will Smith's daughter who swings her hair in the air? WhaaTF? But then The Shins appear... Great vocals, lyrics, instrumentals! LOVE.5yrs to release new tunes...

  • I absolutely loved Wincing the Night Away. It's a work of genius. After hearing "Simple Song" I'm a little scared. I can't say I liked it. And I've been waiting for FIVE years for another Shins album.

I just hope the rest of the album is more thoughtful and lyrically brilliant than what I just heard.

James Mercer is the Poet Laureate of indie pop. Simple Song made him sound like the Bono or something. IHHHHKKK

  • I'm sorry if this was asked already.. but what record is Cal holding??

  • @greenstripedmints The Stooges Funhouse

  • love the intro.

  • I think it'd be safe to say that this is more of a James Mercer solo album than a Shins' album :/

  • @deadendguitarist let's be real though. he basically IS the shins

  • @deadendguitarist As if the Shins have been anything but a vessel for James Mercer. I say that knowing I would sacrifice my own body as one.

  • @deadendguitarist James always works alone when writing The Shins albums, he is doing more of the production this time though.

  • @deadendguitarist Though Marty Crandall and Dave Hernandez played on this album. It's actually comparable to when The Mothers let Ray Collins go but then he kept coming back on future albums.

  • thanks :)

  • 4 and half minute song

and fantano talked about if for5 and half minutes hahahahahha

  • @theneedledrop Well I would disagree with you there, I think its completely different and I don't know where the 'safety' element comes in, especially becuase its completely different from their previous two works - care to expand???

    regards, BBCS

  • im jelly of your death grips shirt

  • 7. I definitely liked it, but I didn't listen to it more than twice and it didn't strike me as amazing when I was visiting it

  • Someone make a best of Cal montage NOW.

  • Anthony, you are so freakin cool.

  • Excellent Track!!!!!

Cant wait to hear the rest!

  • @Ix3britishboys12 Can't really say, maybe you since you replied to my comment?

  • You listed A LOT of hipster music. Lol. 1:53

  • @LegendaryWeiner why you replying to month old comments? you must not have a life if you are watching random videos going through everyone elses comments, fuck off

  • @9EricR what are you talking about? when i replied to you, you had only commented the day before me? make sense please...

  • @9EricR 9EricR?

  • @adsbegone nope, check the name of the uploader rube

  • @9EricR your best friend. hi! how are you? :-) *hugs*

  • check out my review of this track here- musictbr.blogspot.com

  • What do you think of there track on the Tim and Great album?

  • hmmmm... I can't say I agree with you this sounds pretty much like any old shins song which to me is great sure it's a bit louder and reverbed but they done things like that before. still love you. still love you. still love you.

  • I got so excited when I heard your Indie interests.

Arcade Fire, Interpol, and Death Cab for Cutie? Nice!

  • Not sure what's so 'indie' about 'indie' bands today. What's so independent about signing to a label, getting a manager, having a tour manager setup your shows, and so on.

  • @TopherBlairMusic I have to agree with you. With more dependence on the Internet and heavy promotion these days, indie bands don't feel indie anymore. Indie is more like a genre now, like the genre indie bands used to play in the mid 2000s.

  • This type of music that sounds like "fusions" of lots of stuff from the past-- the vocal melody actually seems familiar, but that is the problem with 90% of the (supposed) independent alternative rock, it's just clever-- not artistic in the least -- that is why Sigur Ros, Mars Volta, and Air have such loyal followings: they truly are ARTISTIC... even your precious Interpol is a rip off from Joy Division, New Order, Cure, but those guys stole from Neu! soooooo, it's all crap

  • @liverawkstar No. just because something isn't entirely original doesn't mean it's all crap...in that case, ALL music would be crap. even Sugur Ros, Mars Volta etc. have elements from other types of music. Take the over-celebrated Beatles for example. even though they experimented with different instruments and recording techniques, their sound is overwhelmingly inspired by early rock n roll. Listen to "The End," for example. and calling Interpol a Joy Division rip off is just lazy!

  • @liverawkstar I'm sure Sigur Ros, Mars Volta and Air did "rip off" from other bands. Not "ripping off" in the way that it's copied from top to bottom, but taking influences in. I'm sure those 3 bands are only artistic if they actually take in influences. I think it's difficult to make music entirely original these days to be honest, let alone good music, but it's still possible.

  • @adsbegone I agree with you-- but having influences can still make art... copying is just copying, and if you skip ahead enough generations your listening fan base won't know your stealing

  • @liverawkstar ok, what do you want us to say / think when we read this? *shrugs*

  • @theneedledrop

so "shrug" back at you, are you the only one allowed on your channel to have a deep opinion beyond a text message, ?

  • 1:26. Opium. Lol

  • I've never been a fan of The Shins other than "New Slang" but I can't stop listening to this song. I'm really excited to hear if the rest of Port of Marrow is this good.

  • bit.ly\w9Zk8r

  • Mr. Tony Fountain, I was just wondering what you thought about releasing the project file from the track reviews theme song for a little remixing. Just a thought...and a wish.

  • @juicehea sadly, the "project file" has been deleted for years. :-(

  • anybody knows what he studied in college? i´m guessing musicology.

  • @dudldoo Same guess as mine too.

  • I really like the song - fun, catchy, classic Shins energy. It's nice to hear that Mercer can still write indie-rock gems. Can't wait for Port of Morrow to drop.

  • Review Postal Service

  • @ViciAmbience ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, you know my answer to this. :-P

  • @theneedledrop I actually don't. Must have missed that.

  • Make a list of you and Cal's favourite Beatles songs.

  • The Scar by Deconbrio

  • i fucking love the singers vocals on every one of their songs. Kissing the lipless is wonderful

  • Anthony Green- Beautiful Things

  • Is that "Don't Break My Love" vinyl?

This Counterfeit Cal, by the way, had a huge The Shins phase in his youth.

  • >2012

    >Still doing track reviews

    FUCK YES

  • @CalChuchesta track reviews forever.

  • @theneedledrop Remember how Cal track-reviewed Slipknot? oh yeah.

  • @theneedledrop Needs more "heeey buddy did you hear the news?

it's track reviiiiews. Yeah. Track reviews."

  • Nada Surf - The Stars are Indifferent to Astronomy

  • I give this song a 95 because it's got a good beat and you can dance to it too.

    Watch: /watch?v=5Y9IBwihU4w

  • Anthony - if Cal dislikes (not necessarily hates) stuff you like, does the fact that he's examining The Stooges LP (I think it is), thus possibly likes it, mean that you NOW dislike The Stooges? Haha.

  • @MoonchildMindaugas2 I'm pretty sure Cal is the irrational Anthony. Cal likes catchy happy stuff but doesn't really listen to it.

  • @CalChuchesta Cal! Hello there, buddy!

  • @MoonchildMindaugas2 i think he just thinks iggy pop has a hot bod.

  • @theneedledrop 0_o... Cal, what do you say?

  • Hey Anthony, i was wondering if you could make a video on what you think about music being re-released. (e.g. The Beatles 09 remasters or recent U2 Achtung Baby 20th Anniversary) Do you love it or hate it?

  • Comment removed

  • their album "oh, inverted world" is the only one that I picked up. Caring is Creepy is gooood. Weird Divide is a great song too. I can hear Grizzly Bear on that.. 14 years before I heard Grizzly Bear. Never got into Grizzly Bear, but I love Weird Divide. New Slang is also pretty darn classic too.

  • Anthony was once entry level... Whoa...

  • @AICDTTPT everybody is born entry-level. sorry to break it to you, bro.

  • ITAOTS

  • Anthony, why do you always need for a song to be 'bold' in order to get addicted? Who cares about 'bold'? What's so addictive about 'boldness'?

  • @JurgenBM If you wanna listen to bland, uninventive, and recycled, that's your business. *shrugs* Are you really asking why "boldness" is good? Why don't you ask what's so great about breathing? If it weren't for musicians taking risks and boldly experimenting, there would be no variety or new sounds.

  • @theneedledrop I think some newly released songs are not bland, uninventive and recycled but very rich, enjoyable and catchy as hell WITHOUT being bold and innovative... Like Simple Song! It's typical Shins music to me.

  • 2:55 for review. Jesus anthony, you don't need to justify your reviews and tell us a whole back story incase we don't like your evaluation.

  • @HighRoad001 well, i feel like i should. not because i have to "justify" myself, but because this channel is and always has been about my personal journey through music. yeah, the reviews are part of the story, but the point at the end of the day is this is just one man's perception, ya know? do you really think saying my back story is going to stop fanboys from being butthurt? believe me when i say it hasn't worked in the past.

  • DO THE NEW XIU XIU TRACK

  • Please review "Eyelid Movies" by Phantogram and "Fantasies" by Metric.

  • this guy has clearly never written a (good) song before.

  • @trueasblue its his opinion dude, whats wrong with it?, the shins have been doing the same tricks for three albums in a row, theres was not innovation in their music in the past, there isnt now either,

    end of story

  • @trueasblue I don't need to have directed a (good) movie to know the Transformers movies suck.

  • I was excited for this new track release. I enjoy, and still enjoy their presense that they present in their music. Sleeply, calming, etc. type of music for me. Sadly, I didn't get much out of this release. Nothing stuck. I sort of have a weird pet peeve, where if an artist puts the word song in their song- blah! Bugs me for some reason, I don't know. I have high hopes for this LP, maybe a semi switch in direction- trying to be louder, who knows. The Shins man, The Shins.

  • loved the shins! i remember listening to them all the time in high school, kinda forgot about them though, 4 and 5 years between releases? what is this tool? anyways you should review Yamataka//Sonic Titan - YT//ST next. kinda late but id like to hear your thoughts on this one.

  • not even into Broken Bells? common, Danger Mouse man!

  • @sethfafa just cuz danger mouse is affiliated doesn't mean i have to like it. :-P

  • Review Peace of Mind by Rebelution!

  • I saw the Shins open for the White Stripes 6 or 7 years ago, and I can't even put into words how bad they were that night. That was during the height of their hype too. I think they haven't done much since, because there was never much there to begin with.

  • I got an idea, review something cool that you really enjoy. =)

  • For me, the Shins have always been hit-or-miss, but when they hit, they hit really big. I absolutely adore some songs (New Slang, Phantom Limb, Australia, Caring is Creepy, etc.), but am completely indifferent to others.

That said...this is definitely one of the "hits." I think the comparison to Arcade Fire was very apt; that's the vibe I got too. It's super catchy, and I like the fullness of the sound. Even if I don't go for the whole album, I'm definitely going to have to grab this track.

  • Great review! Pleaseee review the new Of Montreal when it comes out, if u don't have it already cuz it leaked

  • Wow New Shins Album sweet!

  • on now review TATTOO TATTOO by van halen :ppppppppppppp

  • @DiabloDave363 :-ppppppppppppppppppppppppp

  • It would be great if you could do a track review for "Gravedigger's Song" from the forthcoming Mark Lanegan Band LP.

  • Anthony Greens New Album "Beautiful Things" It's streaming free on his website!!! anthonygreenschildren. com

  • TRKRVW this new song from Moist Ghost! Or at least keep your eye on him

  • Review "The Journey to the 5th Echelon" by "The Jet Age of Tomorrow"

  • Thank you for doing this review SO Much. n_n

  • Review "All 6s and 7s" by Tech N9ne.

  • Biased since they're my favorite band of all time, but I sort of don't get it when people mention Modest Mouse with the other big-name indie bands (Shins, Death Cab, etc.) because they seem so much more . . . adventurous and character-filled. Shins and Death Cab and stuff always give me that "it sounds nice but what else does it have" feeling.

  • you should review '†Priscilla†' by JMSN.

  • is Cal looking at your copy of funhouse?

  • @jfitz1431 yes he was.

  • If you are into music that's really new and indie you should review a swedish band called "MaiNekk" and their album "Dance, dance and rotate"

  • This album is coming out on my bday :D so pumped, I love the Shins. I'm actually you surprised you liked this song. Its a bit "poppy".

  • I haven't listened to a ton of the shins. I enjoy parts of wincing the night away but as a whole I can take it or leave it. I haven't listened to much of there other stuff tbh, I probably won't check this out. How about that new Symmetry album though, im digging that.

  • @quinn959 Check out Oh, Inverted World by the Shins. Its their best in my opinion.

  • @quinn959 the shins older stuff>wincing the night away

  • Hey Anthony - have you ever listened to/gotten into Third Sight (a la "Golden Shower Hour")? They just put out a new album - "Chillin' With Dead Bodies In A B-Boy Stance." I haven't heard it yet myself, but I've gotten into their vibe over the past year...regardless of whether or not you do a review, just curious if you've heard any of their albums. Thanks for the great music tips!

  • next ? karkwa's album "les chemins de verre", fosho.

  • It all makes sense now. Anthony is addicted to opium.

  • The way James sings the song is what so great. Check out

    Savage Display - "Deuce Fuck"

Its amazing, such emotion in the track.

  • I can see what you mean about The Shins not being very bold, but I <3 em.

  • I personally really enjoy the shins, and while it's true that they may not be the most experimental or band out their, I think something has to be said for listening to a nice catchy inoffensive album once and a while

  • Wow you and I were enjoying pretty much the same bands around that time. Throw in The Mars Volta and Radiohead and take out Interpol for me though. I got into The Shins more recently too, fun catchy stuff I must say. This new song seems to be more of that same catchiness just with a new coat I suppose. Excited for the new album I must say.

  • YO ANTHONY, review the new mixtape, Aymie Montreal by a rapper called Airospace. This guy needs recognition right now. Check it out, it's fucking amazing.

    /watch?v=XhPxGOvn6gs&feature=related

  • So the Shins are going in a more arena-filling pop sound and less of an intimate folk sound or bedroom pop. Anthony, you should give a listen to FLAKE MUSIC. (before the Shins were the Shins) I can see why they are changing in sound (many new band members). But this, overall it wasn't a huge difference in sound. I thought it was a fun track, something I need right now. nothing to complex, just fun good music. indie roots

  • I LOVE YOU

  • review Total Control - Henge Beat

  • @jeremycohen96 i wasn't into that one, sadly. :-/

  • @theneedledrop well at least than means Cal enjoyed it :D

  • Grime's new Lp

  • HEY ANTHONY, YOU SHOULD REVIEW THIS ALBUM

    JMSN - †Priscilla†
