No more of those Big daddy 415-foot Timber Firs in BC sadly, (a real neck breaking experience for the lumber men to look up at I imagine it was) but just in the past few days, Michael Taylor and Marius Vaden of Oregon have been measuring unexplored tracts of giant fir reaching heights of 322 feet tall in Coos county. They say Oregon is the new frontier for the world's tallest trees, just never were mapped and explored like the Redwoods were.

I think the Island of Vancouver has sustained something near the order of 99% reduction of Douglas fir old growth, and about 90% of Spruce, 75% overall reduction of all old growth (200+ years or older) evergreen trees in the past 150 years. I never have made it up to the Island, but have family in Anacortes Wa, just across the sound. I live the country up there, it's like a prehistoric paradise up there.

Unfortunately, British Columbia has no more giant trees. They were milled into lumber long ago.

All the biggest, tallest, and oldest trees are no more. Some Douglas firs grew as tall as 40 story skyscrapers, and over 10 to 16 feet wide. My videos document just a few of the trees that made it to the history books.
