it was all 10 of spades. He never fans the deck out to show that it's a complete deck. When he first placed the cards down, there a split second you can see the bottom card which was a spade. Teller was right, he cut a 10 of spade then she cut a 10 of spade. She shuffled away from the camera so you couldn't see the deck. BUSTED!!!

@MrLukeCarroll Thanks for uploading! But I disagree on Brynolf and Ljung's win being unfair. They added the apparent switch 2 hours before performing because though the trick was brilliant, P&T might have cracked it. So they fooled 'em. Clever!

What I didn't like was the Victorians. Whatever fake moves they had, the trick itself was dull. Big difference--you can tell from P&T's reaction.

But generally, P&T love "magician's" misdirection from good performers. Watch "Teller on Magician's Magic".

You people saying it's a simple trick with a rigged deck or a deck switch are idiots. Do you not see Penn & Teller guessing both of those and being told they're wrong? And no, the contestants can't just lie. Do you think the producers are stupid? Every contestant had to reveal their complete method to master magician Johnny Thompson, who communicates with host Ross via earpiece to confirm whether P & T are correct. Lee Hathaway legitimately won his trip with this great, original trick. Bravo!

Anyone else not like the gut-cutting trick? It was just a very basic trick with a little twist. Other than the obvious "spilling your guts on stage" jokes, it wasn't a very good trick.

tell me this douche doesnt actually get to go to vegas!!!! at 5:22 when the girl cuts the deck she lifts up a couple of cards and they are all 10 of spades!. no trick that is any good does not show the audience the faces of the cards. at least show a real deck and do a switch

@emwes29 He didn't switch decks... the card under the 10 of spades is the 4 of spades so that's what's making you think they're all 10s. And the card he held up when he split the deck was the 9 of spades.

This tricks easy in the deck he had all the 10 of spades in the middle filling quater of the middle deck of each of the 6 decks then she split it and then she had the card which he had in his stomach

Could someone tell me the exact name of the bicycle deck these guys use for tricks? I just got interested in this stuff and I'd like to start with a similar deck. In addition I don't know if this is plastic or hard paper or stg else.

@TibiMU the way this ten of spades came out soaked, I would pick it's a normal paper card. Standard size poker deck, one of the most common cards in the states, and indeed, in magic. Have a look through for the bicycle cards company channel, they have a whole video on how things are made.

@MrLukeCarroll There are nine episodes: The Pilot, and episodes 1 through 8. Episode 9 has been filmed, but hasn't been broadcasted yet. It was planned as an xmas special, but it never aired.

From Wikipedia: "Episode eight aired on August 28, 2011 at 9:00pm. In this episode, Lee Hathaway managed to fool Penn & Teller.".

As you can see, this is episode 8.

There are 6 acts filmed but not shown, and Episode 9 was supposed to be a 90 m special with those acts.

@ttrop That's because the trick he did is bloody easy, takes no skill and is self working....he is using a svengali trick deck(google it if u havent heard of it) so any card that is cut to will be the 10 of spades....such an obvious trick

no, it's not all 10s. There's a split second when she's cutting where you can see a six of spades. I'm sure there was a deck switch, perhaps limiting the number of cards he could push on her, but I'm not sure how he know it was the 10.

@bloodties1 On TV once a spectactor is chosen they bring across a boom mic then they walk up on stage, everything stops they take the person backstage put a mic on them have them sit back down with the mic on and then re-film then walking onto the stage, they then edit these together to make the final cut :)

Well. It was a good trick, because the selection of the card seemed totally random, but the selection must have been forced. Of course he could have had several cards hidden in his "stomach", maybe he saw the card on a monitor, or had in-ear whisper it to him.

The simplest solution to do the trick, though, is to do it with a deck that only contains the ten of clubs, and if that is the easiest way to do it, why not?

@ArkticFyer It was all 10 of spades except for the card he was waiting to cut to. Notice how his hands are always on the deck before he cuts it. Then the probability of her picking that card is 1 out of 52, and also, the card he'll come out with is so similar, most probably wouldn't even notice and he might still get away.

@corruptentity not true, they have to present the trick before a panel beforehand. If the performer lies, they buzz jonathan and he calls BS and they get embarrassed in front of...however many people that is. Go search for some of the before-hand videos. There are several uploaded, and worth a watch.

@corruptentity Nope. They do the trick in front of a judge before the show. The judge knows how the trick is done and if the person lies about how they did it the judge will stop them and confront them. They have to be perfectly honest about whether Penn and Teller guessed it.

Sorry Penn, wrong. It was a black 9 (pretty sure it's clubs too, but difficuilt to tell doe to size and speed of the motions). Easiest way to confirm it's not the same card she picked is look at the one middle emblem as compared to two on the 10 of spades she chose. I'd really hoped they'd include a post reaction segment, even just 5 seconds, to clear up that actually, no, he did not cut to the same card as her.

I wish Penn would've checked the deck. It would be so easy to do this trick with a simple svengali deck and the audience would never know, but he was doing this for P&T and knew he needed another method they couldn't guess. Well done.

@TheGmThunder The card is not forced, it's a free choice. The deck is ungimmicked. The method is brand new, unpublished and never been done before - and also fooled Johnny Thompson the adjudicator. Sadly, you don't see the entire adjudication process as it's edited heavily, but P&T went through ALL the force options before admitting defeat, best, Lee Hathaway.

Doesn't explain how you get the right card tho! I am in no way knowledged in magic tho so if P&T couldn't see it, I can't really expect to see it either I guess. Too good.
