Another comment that I've been getting is "well my tank was empty, and I didn't remove the reg and I didn't get in trouble"
First off, you were lucky. Second, what if you forgot to drain your tank? And then... what if your burst disk blew, and filled the luggage compartment with a blast of 4500psi air, setting off the sensors causing the plane to emergency land, or it caused structural damage?
Blow a burst disk = plane will emergency land / crash = you will be in a HEAP of trouble
As long as your tank is EMPTY, it is ok to ship your tank via AirMail. You have to understand that cargo planes have more lenient regulations than PASSENGER planes. Cargo planes have 3 people on them, passenger planes can have over 300+ passengers.
As long as your tank is empty, you can ship your tank with the regulator still attached via Air Mail because it'll go on a CARGO plane, not a PASSENGER plane.
Q) Do you have to remove the regulator in order to ship your tank to the hotel?
A) No, you only have to degas the tank completely. You do not have to remove the regulator if you plan on shipping your tank to the hotel.
Q) What about the markers on a plane?
A) Your marker cannot go in "carry on" luggage. You have to "check" your bag with the marker in it, and pick it up at baggage claim when you land at your destination
Also, I'll be MORE THAN HAPPY to forward all the comments below about how you can't be arrested, how other airports care more than others, etc directly to the FAA and TSA.
If I found out that a paintball player on my flight had a sealed tank in the luggage compartment, I wouldn't think twice about asking for him to be arrested for jeopardizing my life and the others on the flight for being irresponsible.
Remove the reg, don't be irresponsible and risk people's lives. Enjoy!

"You can't be arrested for flying with a tank w/ a reg on it" - what if the tank blows a burst disk during flight, and the plane has to emergency land? What if people are injured? Damage to the airplane? Still think you can't be arrested?
Don't be such a selfish asshole as to risk the lives of other people flying on the airplane.
Ok so just to add to what Mike already said. If you have any questions go to the Airport and ask the security team what you need to do to make it sake, and what precautions you need to make to be sure your not arrested on the many terminals you may fly into. If the do not know. Most Air ports have actually Police trained in TSA policy they WILL know. If they do not have TSA trained officers. Ask your local PD and they will find out for you. We all just want you to be safe when traveling!
mike your rite on most of the things u say...but it is rare that you will get arrested but you will be fined any where from $2000-5000 otherwise everything you said was rite...now the only reason im sayin you were wrong is b/c my dad is the FSD(federal security director) at miami international airport...so i knw alot about the subject and hav saved a few friends alot of money cuz i told them this and mike if you ever wanna fly 2 miami ill hav an armed guard walk you 2 a limo parked outside
good advice but if your shipping it to the company your prob paying S&H both way so wouldn't it be better just to ship it to where your going to stay in the first place? Allow good to know bout the safety feature i had a tank start to unscrew and it freaked me out this was b4 i know bout the safety feature in the reg. Thanx for the info.
Hey mike! thanks for the advice! Before I flew, I phoned the airline and asked them if I could fly with the tank, they said yeah, as long as it's empty. Thanks for the vid, will rather get the reg removed for next time.
holly shit dude, I'm from Venezuela, and I've brought already 3 tanks! 2 of them c02, the latest one was a 3000 psi hpa tank, it was around September, they didn't say a thing. I'm 16, do you think that is the reason?
no its cuz they wernt thinking. just cuz ur 16 doesnt mean shit. as if theyd let some person bring a gun since there inly 10........lol doesnt work like that. they wernt thinking
this may seem like a dumb question but if there is this safety feature why do they bother to lock-tight it? if they didnt that would save you the step of having to send it to the company no? hmmmm
because you'd rather not have to deal with the tank unscrewing and having to use the safety feature. its more likely for the reg to screw out of the tank if it's not loctite'd in
you should have said a disclaimer or sumthing b/c now someone is gunna be a dumbass and take a tank onboard like you said and probly still get arested then come to you and file a lawsuit. shit like that has happened ot me before its just un-beleavable how dumb people are
I live in Hawaii, and I brought at least 4 tanks on Hawaiian Airlines, and they didn't say nothing about them. The tanks were not taken apart or nothing, I just put them in the luggage, and they aloud it.
They dont go very high, but now they have changed policy, regulator must be removed in accordance with TSA guidlines. I suggest you do it as even if it dont blow up you weaken the tank under that kinda preasure. I live in Hawaii to and I use Hawaiian all the time.
thanks for the video Mike.... very helpful... but what about international traveling? There's a small chance I'll be moving to Vancouver BC and I'd like to play when I'm up there too.... All I know is, I've bought used things off Canadians before and it took forever to get to me, cuz I think they actual inspect EVERYTHING thoroughly. I would think customs at the airports would be tight too.
@danapointtrainer, what kind of tank is it? Dye, PMI? The best you can do is very carefully detach the reg from the tank. Then when you get it back, call up the company and tell them what the situation. Send it to them and wait. Canada is incredibly strict about sending these tanks across the country. They wont accept it if the reg is on. I even had to leave my tank behind because i didnt want to take it apart.
Haha wow mike such a nice guy, btw you only had 305 vieqs idc about yor subscribers and telling them that you are compltely incorretc. I love how you try to pose me as an incompitent fool when all u had to say was. Damnit! I just got my regulator tightened again because the guy from Scheels told me that it needs to be locktited down :( Also, the guy scratched up my Ninja tank. Is it still worth it to take the reg off?
i have to disagree wit hyou mike, but i flew on an airplane and they just called me back and said is that a paintball tank? and i was like yeah and they said is thre anyway to remove the reg? and i said no then i had to put it in my car
So......I should remake my video and tell 35,000 people that it's ok to bring compressed air tanks filled to 4500psi onto passenger aircraft? Because a flight crew was NICE ENOUGH to you to allow you to remove the tank, instead of following the correct procedure which is reporting it to the FAA for felony charges?
this may be a dumb question but does having the ability to unscrew your reg by hand make the reg easier to unscrew itself from the tank when fully filled or when you slide or whatever?
my question is wont airport security see u have a "gun" in ur bag??? so they can defenetly arrest u because theres a weapon in ur bag right? thats besides the tank
When you are tapping the fill nipple with the hammer you should feel it start to turn as the loctite gives. Usually you have to continue tapping it with the hammer until it has completed one full turn, then you can unscrew it by hand. And no it doesn't damage the tank or the fill nipple. I've done this to litterally dozens of different tanks and I've never had a problem.
U don't need to ship your tank to the manufacturer to have to reg removed, you can do it easily at home. Drain ur tank, then boil some water. Put the boiling water in a pot and put the tank reg down in the water for 2 mins. Take it out of the water and wrap a towel around the reg. Hold the tank down firmly on a table with the fill nipple sticking out to the side. With a hammer give the fill nipple a few firm taps through the towel. This'll break the loctite seal and you can now unscrew the reg.
mike hey i got a 68/4500 GA myth and when i put it in my vice and leave it in there for a while and then try to unscrew the tank the reg stays in the gun is there anything to be worried about? i just dont want 4500 psi blowing up in my face
Mike, did you not say in the video that in order to unscrew the reg you needed to send it to the tank company to get the loctite removed? the newer maxflows do not have loctite on them so they can easily be removed for hydro inspection, am I correct? smart parts created the maxflow specifically, so you don't have to go through the hassle of sending it around or going that extra step?
Some tanks have locktite, some tanks don't. It's not anything "engineered" into the Max Flo. The two tanks shown in this video, came like that and did NOT have to be mailed back to the company.
I didn't say they were engineered for it, smart parts just made it so it wasn't ment to have loctite put on it, but to have the regulator incorporated into the asa. If smart parts wanted the maxflow to be inconveniently sealed together like other tanks, they wouldn't have even bothered making it.
i have traveled to Virginia and now do it every summer i just take the reg off take out the extra shots from the guns and take the barrel off and make a nice note saying i have paintball things in this bag
Nothing the airplane has a pressurised cabin that makes it the same pressure as when you are on the ground. That is why your ears pop when you are taking off.
there is less pressure at altitude, so 4500psi at sea level is like 5000psi at a higher altitude
the biggest problem isn't the tank rupturing, it's the burst disk blowing and releasing 4500psi of air into a pressurized compartment, causing sensors to go off and forcing the plane to land.
Also, there have been fires in the luggage compartment. And a fire + 4500psi tank = kaboom
hey mike, i was wondering if you can do a review/ comparison to the azodin pump and the sl-68 2 2nd gen. i doubt you will even read this because all the other comments and PMs but if you do it will be really apreciated
Link in the sidebar for everyone claiming "special rules", it states very clearly in the TSA website-
"Compressed gas cylinders are allowed in checked baggage or as a carry-on ONLY if the regulator valve is completely disconnected from the cylinder and the cylinder is no longer sealed (i.e. the cylinder has an open end). The cylinder must have an opening to allow for a visual inspection inside."
If you fly with a pressurized tank, filled to 4500psi, and your burst disk blows while the plane is in the air, sensors will go off from the luggage area, and the plane will have an emergency landing.
There will be an investigation, they will find the tank in your baggage, you will be in SERIOUS trouble. FAA regulations don't "differ" from airport to airport, they are nationwide.
Get caught with reg on tank = huge fine & jail time
the reason u have to take the reg off is cuz as the plane gains altitude the preasures in the tank change if the reg is on and it could blow up. if the reg is off there is no chance of a preasure build up.
So, if I sent in my tank to the company its from they do that then they send it back. Ok so do I have to send it back to screw it tight again or can you just hand do it or a wrench or something what im asking is if i have to send the tank back to get the reg back on it or not?
so if u get the manufacturer to break the reg loose and take the tank and reg to the even how r u supposed to play with a tank with the reg not locked on?
you can actually do it yourself, get a giant wrench, maybe get some assistance from someone to hold the tank, and just take it off. unscrew it off and your golden.
after just screw right back on, on the bottom of the reg by the threads is a big bad ass o ring that holds the reg on very securely especially when it is pressurized.
ok, mike i have a serious question. My grandparents are flying on thier own business plane and dont travel through securtiy and what not. I was wondering would a full tank be safe in the actual cabin of the plane? or even an empty tank with the regulator intact?
exactly my point. My grandparents are using a private plane to go to colorado and i wanna bring my pb stuff, so i could bring my tank on and leave it in the pressurized cabin, Correct?
No, if the cabin pressurized it isnt going to affect the tank at all, meaning it will still explode just pressurize it when u get to where u are going.
if this vid is gonna be about what i think it's gonna be about (not putting Full High Pressure Air (HPA) tanks on (in) a plane)..then that's just common sense¬!
Another comment that I've been getting is "well my tank was empty, and I didn't remove the reg and I didn't get in trouble"

there is less pressure at altitude, so 4500psi at sea level is like 5000psi at a higher altitude
the biggest problem isn't the tank rupturing, it's the burst disk blowing and releasing 4500psi of air into a pressurized compartment, causing sensors to go off and forcing the plane to land.
Also, there have been fires in the luggage compartment. And a fire + 4500psi tank = kaboom

The cylinder must have an opening to allow for a visual inspection inside."

airports are different about enything i had alot of crap in my pack and oner aairport threw away loto cuz of danger and some said it was fine
slyrez 2 years ago
@slyrez
FAA regulations are not different
If you fly with a pressurized tank, filled to 4500psi, and your burst disk blows while the plane is in the air, sensors will go off from the luggage area, and the plane will have an emergency landing.
There will be an investigation, they will find the tank in your baggage, you will be in SERIOUS trouble. FAA regulations don't "differ" from airport to airport, they are nationwide.
Get caught with reg on tank = huge fine & jail time
paintballtechpb 2 years ago
I think that's an Invert 56/4500 tank, with an Angel tank cover? Or an Angel Sticker. Not sure...
schulz1098 2 years ago
thats an air tank made by angel, if you check wdp's website you will see that they sell air tanks made by them.
manwith1hair 2 years ago
ive gone on planes with the reg on and the airport security said it was fine just call the airline and confirm with them that it is alright
xtreampaintball 2 years ago
@xtreampaintball
that's an absolute negative ghost rider, FAA regulations clearly state the regulator needs to be removed

where did you get that angel tank??
SLbushwacker66 2 years ago
ummm probably angel lol
jessenewman07 2 years ago
No, angel doesnt have them, i cant find them anywhere
SLbushwacker66 2 years ago
the reason u have to take the reg off is cuz as the plane gains altitude the preasures in the tank change if the reg is on and it could blow up. if the reg is off there is no chance of a preasure build up.
dkdavid721 2 years ago
@dkdavid721 because all the air is gone
satanthing 2 years ago
no.. because its no longer a closed container if the reg isn't on it

So, if I sent in my tank to the company its from they do that then they send it back. Ok so do I have to send it back to screw it tight again or can you just hand do it or a wrench or something what im asking is if i have to send the tank back to get the reg back on it or not?

juagarcia917 2 years ago
so if u get the manufacturer to break the reg loose and take the tank and reg to the even how r u supposed to play with a tank with the reg not locked on?
damngreaser 2 years ago
you can actually do it yourself, get a giant wrench, maybe get some assistance from someone to hold the tank, and just take it off. unscrew it off and your golden.
after just screw right back on, on the bottom of the reg by the threads is a big bad ass o ring that holds the reg on very securely especially when it is pressurized.
learned this when i went to vegas for uspl.

What if your tank takes a plane when being shipped?
asuhurley 2 years ago
Well what about the people who dont kno any better and ship HPA tanks by air mail? :/
xdyingfetusx69 2 years ago
ok, mike i have a serious question. My grandparents are flying on thier own business plane and dont travel through securtiy and what not. I was wondering would a full tank be safe in the actual cabin of the plane? or even an empty tank with the regulator intact?
magichockey11 2 years ago
wow no tank is safe on any part of the plane, its the altitude that matters not where on the plane it IS LOLOL wtf
xdyingfetusx69 2 years ago
the cabin is pressurized...
magichockey11 2 years ago
yea, but where most luggage go isnt
auger5433 2 years ago
exactly my point. My grandparents are using a private plane to go to colorado and i wanna bring my pb stuff, so i could bring my tank on and leave it in the pressurized cabin, Correct?
magichockey11 2 years ago
No, if the cabin pressurized it isnt going to affect the tank at all, meaning it will still explode just pressurize it when u get to where u are going.
thatguru877 2 years ago
WoW I never knew that. Thanks Mike. Very helpful

dont forget you can only have like 2 oz. of liquid in carry on
