  • Got goosebumps at the very end. I can always count on youtube to remind me that I really should use my guitars as firewood - but...I continue to hack away

  • LOVE THE VID I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO GET ONE OF THESE PUPPIES

  • @Bluegrassmoker ;-) Thanks!

  • Nice playing there :). I recently got a gr-20 and thought it would be awesome to learn this song too. do you happen have a tab or guitar sheet for this that you could share? :)

  • @reyn1r Thanks! I actually used piano and organ sheet music myself, I don't have tabs.. But I guess you can find both tabs and sheet music on the internet if you do some searching

  • Man you are very talented

  • Aha Awesome -•-

  • Aha Awesome

  • AND I FUCKING PLAY GUITAR TOO

  • MASTER

  • WTF? THATS INSANE HAHAHA

  • これなんてパイプオルガン?

  • @teaseyabashi Sorry, I don't understand..

  • @teaseyabashi

    はい、それは器官である

  • @teaseyabashi YOUR LANGUAGE IS SILLY

  • Hi,

can you describe the settings you used? (attack, decay, etc?)

Very well done, like, no ghost notes or glitches,

  • @489177 Thank you! I don't remember exactly, but I think I just used the default settings..?

  • BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO, APPLAUSE, SUCH A WONDERMENT OF ENJOYMENT FROM A TRUE MASTER OF CHILLS!!!

What did you utilize for the organ sound? I used to own a Hammond and I'm very impressed with the sound!!! I've heard one other and it just didn't seem as realisitic as your guitar/organ sound!!! Do you play the entire song Toccata on your album?

  • @stargroove4 Thank you very much! The sound is the onboard organ preset on the Axon. Yes, I play the complete Toccata and Fugue on my album, but on that version I'm using a regular guitar sound instead of the Axon

  • ?!? xD good synkro^^

  • If I hear it with my eyes closed, I would think you were playing a pipe organ. You play very well.... Usted toca muy bien, Sr!

I hope I can find this type of synthetizer in Bolivia, the country I live.

  • @DrEdgarParada Thank you! (and good luck)

Bra jobba!

    Mvh Ingrid

(This was funny. Hei is my former guitar teacher!) And to topic: Great work!)

  • @GabonViper1981 Takk, det var morsomt å høre! (og etternavnet ditt? Begynner å bli gammel vet du, så husker litt dårlig..:-)

  • Great work!

Is that some sort of MIDI thing on your guitar to make that synth organ sound?

  • @JukeRecords That thing he put on his guitar then took off was a capo, it makes the guitar sound register a key you want to play in.

  • @stargroove4 Thanks I know that.... but I was talking about the thing at the base of the guitar

  • meh get a keyboard..but good none the less

  • But can you do it on a tuba...

  • @liampwnedu No, I think I would need a couple of years for that.. ;-)

  • I love you.

  • amazing work sir.

  • @Janc004 Thank you!

  • Like original. You rock!

  • Don't stop to do this.

  • All very nice & amazing, but wouldn't it be easier just to do this on an organ? Don't want to be rude, especially considering all the time taken to do this, which seems a nightmare to play, but can't really get what the point here.

  • Hey, I got a question for you. How do you pick those descending arpeggios at 0:46? BTW, Really, really great job man!

  • @AhavaRabboh Thanks! I use normal alternate picking for the descending triad arpeggios; picking two notes on the 1st E string, and on e note on the 2nd B string (changing to the 2nd and 3rd string on the last triad). I don't know if that answered your question good enough..?

  • @rednebb Yes, it is pretty good, thank you :) But I thought maybe (based on the motion of your hand) that you play it so that you do two consecutive downstrokes (from B to the E string) and then another upstroke on the E and so on? I tried to play it this way and it feels somehow easier then to play it strictly by alternate picking? Sorry for bad english and I hope you got my point. Thanks for your time again :)

  • @AhavaRabboh No, it's alternate picking all the way, so the 2nd string will get a downstroke and an upstroke every second time, respectively..

  • I love how he just throws the capo after he uses it.

  • LoL. He's like yeah I play guitar.

  • check out my video in the responses section toccata in d minor guitar organ duet. This video here inspired me to buy a guitar synth and try to arrange this as a duet

  • By far the best version on youtube. True to the original and all. Very nice to listen to. Did you learn it by yourself, or do you have tabs or sheets for this?

  • @SeTorsken Thanks! I used sheet music, no tabs..

  • @rednebb Are the sheet music available online or did you buy it somewhere? :)

  • @SeTorsken I bought mine ages ago at a sheet music store, but you can find it online, for instance at cantatedomino . org

  • Brilliant, best version of this song I've heard!

  • Redneb, I honestly believe I havent heard this played better that what i just heard. I would perhaps like to advise on oe thing.... give the spectators a bit more background, like what you see, how you do things, etc... I believe a more personnal approach will help with your rankings.... I dont see why other guitarists or so they call themselves have better rankings....you play better, i honestly believe so, matey

  • @BanditGeorge1 Thank you, and thanks for the advice, I'll think about it..

  • This is the best version yet played on the guitar...

  • Cannot agree more than this is really talented and suitable cover for such a legendary piece. Loved how you just threw away the capo also, like "Don't need you anymore, get out!". Cheers!

  • @DetheraOlli Actually, if this was even written by Bach (which it probably wasn't), it's one of his poorest and least sophisticated efforts.

  • @PublickStews Seriously (on both issues)..?

  • @rednebb Yeah, many musicologists think that it was written by someone else. It has several characteristics that are very un-Bach-like. Additionally, if you compare it to other fugues (Dorian in D minor) you can tell that it's not nearly as sophisticated. My favorite theory is that this piece was written by someone else for violin and Bach transcribed it to organ.

  • @PublickStews Hm.. I guess that's a big disappointment to many Bach fans, especially since this is commonly known as one of Bach's "greatest hits". But I still think it's a masterpiece regardless who wrote it, and I strongly disagree that this is "one of his poorest and less sophisticated efforts"..

  • @DetheraOlli Haha, Thanks! ;-)

  • @corvusism Thanks for your comment, but I didn't actually understand a word, I'm afraid.. ;--)

  • WHAT IS THIS MADNESSSSSS!!!!!!

  • It's Mr. Bean!

  • @johnithansummers No, it's not..

  • you play very good man , and effect does it better than other videos :)

  • awesome lol i have been learning this song another way but yours looks a easier

  • Tremendooo! I'm extremelly impressed with your agility to put on and off the cejilla.

  • Maestro!!!!!

  • sinistro...vc toca muito.

  • Are you Mr.Bean?

  • @StalinStudio Do you seriously think I look like him? Then I think you need to get your eyes checked, my friend..

  • @rednebb chill up friend, I was just jokin haha...don't take it seriously...

    :P

  • @rednebb Good version man, was really good and to be honest StalinStudio is sort of right, it is the head shape and hair that makes you look a slight match to Rowan Atkinson

  • man that was AMAZING!!!...I've seen all of your videos and IMO you are the paganini of guitar!!!keep making awesome vids...cheers

  • @GreekGuitarMaster That's too much, but thanks! ;-)

  • Why the staccatto on the C#s? I love your interpretation of the rest of the piece, but why clip the phrase there, rather than letting it flow to the natural ending, the resolution note? It seems so easy to fix, and you played the rest of it marvelously, so hats of to you!

  • @dbpsoccer121 Thanks! Well,,I haven't really thought about that, I just interpreted it the way I felt right for me, and I think I've heard organists play it like that, too..

  • SUPERCOOL! Now, for additional challenge, get some footpedals for the Subs.

I always thought it WOOD be cool to have this played by two guitar and a Bass.

That Fugue section an extra guitar would almost certainly be necessary.

  • Awesome

  • My friend, you played VERY well! The nicest interpretation I've seen in Youtube!

@Dextor314 Man, guitar have 6 strings. Organ don't have 6 strings! That's why they are differents! Haha! :P

  • @linuu7 Thanks, and ;-)

  • excellent !

  • Dear Ketil!!! We are delighted!!! Thank you for this little masterpiece and for your the great talent!!! God bless you, our friend and teacher!!! Your friends from Russia Olga & Vladimir Krylov.

  • @olgakrylova777 Thanks! :-)

  • ナイスプレイ!!

    楽しかった!ありがとう!!

    お部屋・ギターに対する愛情が伺えますね!

  • You really have to watch this like 5 times to fully appreciate how perfectly it is played, not a single little flaw in the whole thing, the effects the capo the precise timing. Hello audience @0:35, get out of here capo @1:24 nimble pick work from 1:58 - 2:13, amazing guitarist from 0:00 - 2:49.

  • Wow good job, but whats the point of playing on a guitar if it sounds EXACTLY like original piece on an organ?

  • @dextor314 Thanks. Well, what's the point of playing it on an organ then..? I love this piece, and would love to play it on an organ if I could, but since I'm much better on guitar I thought it would be fun to use my guitar synth and pretend to be an organist.. By the way, I've just released my first solo album; "Axe-Files" (can be found on cdbaby and iTunes among other places), and there's a new full version of Toccata and Fugue in D minor with regular guitar sound, no guitar synth..

  • @rednebb hi. i solved my problem. dont ask me why, but the instruments, track now perfectly, if i use my thin fender pick, if i play guitar not so delicate as before, and if i use quantize = on. do you know the difference between, auto, on, trigged? i only understand that off i can use for instruments as violin, freetles bass ecc

  • @dextor314 that's a stupid question, no offense.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Can you tell me if the Axon can simulate a 12-String in an altered tuning or just 6 string?

  • @ronb1191 Hm, I'm actually not sure. You should try the Axon forum on the internet. I haven't used my Axon for a while now, I've been busy working on my solo album (available any day now on cdbaby), where I'm only using my Axe-Fx Ultra. I've included a new version of Toccata and Fugue there, by the way (without guitar synth, just plain guitar)

  • now it's time to find the capo

  • @nanotek2711 I found it already ;-)

  • men good tone :D

  • Awesome stuff and you did right to play that peice on a guitar synth.. Your technique is amazing.. Your a great guitarist, buddy.. A band should seek you out.. You're good!

  • @KevanRCraft Thank you very much!

  • @rednebb ok only last question. when do you use the axon, can you see if the tuner is right as normal guitar tuner? my axon when gk3 is very close to strings, dont work correctly.. thx

  • @ersemola Yes, the tuner works fine, like a normal guitar tuner.

  • The tone is great.

  • Top job

  • hi. can you say to me, how did you installed the gk3? i mean the distance between the gk3 and any strings.. i see axon work better with strings no so close to gk3

  • @ersemola Well, I actually installed my GK-3 as close to the strings as possible, but of course leaving enough space under the strings for them to vibrate freely without touching the pickup, and this worked fine for me.

  • 1:25 hahaha

  • Pretty amazing, but I think it would be even more amazing if you used the native "guitar sound" instead of the cheesy synthesizer "organ sound." Part of the charm in transcribing music from one instrument to another is the "newness" of the transcription. Not meaning to in any way diminish your excellent playing, "Jus' sayin'"...

  • @theremin137 Thanks. Well, if you search youtube, it's not something new to play the Toccata on electric guitar, many have done that before. But I haven't seen or heard anyone do it with guitar synth, and that's what I wanted to do also, just for the fun of it, and to give my new Axon a test..

  • the Great!

  • @albertelheavy I didn't.. I used sheet music, bought from a good old-fashioned sheet music store ages ago..

  • Absolutely frecking amazing. fair play to you

  • @studeddead Thanks!

  • oh MY GOD

    YOU'RE AWESOME!!

  • Oh my GOD YOU'RE IS AWESOME!!

  • weird sounding guitar

  • @AreYouWetYet That's because it's a guitar synth..

  • is that a suhr guitar?? how much money did you spend on that guitar??

  • @wiindom No, it's a Roland guitar, read the full video description. I bought it used many years ago, think I payed around 500$ including a Roland GR-100 unit

  • Great job! I have a guitar synth that I've used with both hex and piezo pickups and I can say that you must be playing VERY cleanly to get that end result--especially on that section with the harmony/double-stops toward the end. KUDOS!

  • @operadesigns Yeah, it's a bit of a pain really.. Thanks!

  • its a nice effect but you're playing a guitar dont forget that....anyways great playing

  • @bragamateo I'm not quite sure what you mean, but thanks anyway.. :-)

  • @rednebb i meant that its a cool effect sounds great but we like to hear it on the guitar thats why we click on the video anyway you re a great player

  • This is awesome man, just amazing

  • @luftwaffe0024 Thnx!

  • Nice guitar....:)

  • your guitar is uncool

  • i love it! i see you're a fellow axon user, eh? i have the ax-50 usb myself and i love it. you may or may not have heard, but the latest manufacturer of the axons has discontinued production. i have tried to find any available units online (including ebay) and there is nothing to be found anywhere! looks like we might be the owners of relic-equipment!

sent you a friend req, btw. cheers! :)

  • @jrox5150 Cool! But not so cool that they have discontinued it.. But I guess there's not a very big market for these things, Roland seems to be the only company that can keep up continous production of guitar synths. But we're lucky to have our Axons, then :-)

  • Sounds Good but I'd rather hear him do Deep Purple's Lazy

  • @AuShawster Already done that in one of my other videos.. Thanks!

  • nice guitar... G&L?

  • @milomodera No, it's a '80s Roland GR made in Japan (probably made in the same factory as Ibanez)

  • @rednebb FUJIGEN GAKKI NICE MEN, NICE PLAYING. THANKS

  • @ersemola I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, I haven't done any upgrade on my Axon yet.. But any normal midi cable should work fine for this purpose, I guess?

  • hello. can i use a 13 pin cable roland, with the axon? thx

  • really good job.

  • Really, really good work, respect...Greetings from Poland!

  • @JaroLT29 Thanks!

  • brilliant, really like this :)

  • @IBZJEM7V Thanks!

  • @rednebb hi redneed, i have a dubt... i buied an axon ax 100 mk2, and it must to arrive.. i think is the same as ax 50. so my question is: there a mode, in the hold pedal for to do this: example i play notes, then when i play note C, i press hold pedal, and over that note, i will play other notes, then i relase the hold pedal, and i will play only the notes without the C note.

is yes., wich is this funcition? thx!

  • @ersemola Yes! You can hold down your hold pedal, play a note or a chord, release the pedal, and play on top of the note/chord, which will hold until you press the pedal again. But to achieve this, the HOLDMD on the preset you're using must be set to SEP. Some of the factory presets on the AX100MKII have this setting already, but you can edit any preset to do this, by clicking EDIT>PARAMETER+ 3 x >then set value to SEP. Click ENTER for choosing the desired preset/sound for the HOLD function

  • Sorry for my earlier comment, I did not know you were not playing trough an amp. I often see people wearing headphones while they are using an amp too. It just don't make sense to me the need to have both at the same time. Take care.

  • I really like it. I am just wondering why is it necessary for you to wear headphones when the audio is coming in such a high fidelity? I don't think that will necessarily make you play better or does it?

  • @reygalindo Thanks! I don't quite understand your question.. I'm not using an amp here, everything goes direct to my computer, so to be able to hear what I'm playing (apart from just the string sound from the guitar..) I have to use headphones.

  • a great version of an epic song!

  • @mpalin11 Thanks!

  • I found that all midi-converters that i've used produce many many glitch notes even when I played extremely slow and accurate. So I always have to clean up the recording afterwards. That's bad ... I thoght modern technology could offer more... anybody here with different experiecnes? I use GK3 and GI-20 with sensitivity set to maximum and very very high string action on my guitar.

  • @intermediate007 You haven't tried the Axon then maybe.. Of course, like with any guitar-to-midi converter you have to play very clean and the guitar has to be setup good with as little fret buzz etc. as possible. But if you do that, the Axon tracks fast and accurately, even fast and intricate phrases like you can see and hear in this video.. So I would recommend you try out the Axon if you get the chance (or money..)

  • Only a word.

    Amazing.

  • Awesome! Can't wait to get my gr 20 after seeing someone who really knows how to use one. You should get royalties from Roland.

  • @Nofakngood Thanks, but I'm not using a Roland GR-20, it's an Axon AX-100 MKII. The pickup is a Roland GK-3, though.

  • Impressive

  • nice job may i ask where you got the music from? do you have tabs?

  • @lordOFbrooklyn Thanks! I didn't use tabs, I used sheet music (piano version) that I bought from a music store many years ago

  • MIDI ROCKS

  • That's beyond the awesomeness!!!

  • good shit.

  • PERFECT! :DD

  • I so wanna learn 1:10 and forward, awesome dude

  • That was fantastic Ketil , great sound . Does the Axon system work with a Roland GK3 pick up ?

  • @illuminOz Thanks! Yes, that's what I'm using.

  • very good! nice guitar effect and loved how you threw the capo!

  • @zixiz Hehe.., Thanks!

  • do you have the music for this in tab form. or am i just gonna have to et really good at reading sheet music. lol

  • @Soriku32 No, and yes, I guess so..;-) You might find some good tab versions on the internet, though

  • @Soriku32 you dont need TAB for this, just go get the piano music.

  • absolutely FAKE !

  • @vstaff07 What do you mean..?

  • @vstaff07 you have no idea ae? watch how the rhythmic interpretation matches exactly what his hands do! i am in awe of this dude! :)

  • @vstaff07 Look at the midi converting device on the guitar before commenting...

Rednebb, did you really not edit this record or is your device converting that well ? o_o

I mean, on each video i saw about guitar to midi device (because i'm interested in buying one actually) you could hear some lost of velocity/volume depending on the attack of the pick or the natural sustain of the guitar.

Would you mind give a quick description on how is setup your gear ?

    Great video by the way

  • tabs are on classtab.org theres loads on there lol :D that was a excellent rendition by the way!

  • I absolutely loved this. Thanks for sharing it and doing such a wonderful job with it. I was mainly a piano/keyboard player and loved playing this piece. However, I derailed to the guitar being my favorite instrument and will use your version as a guide to relearning the piece for guitar.

  • @RedBlaze02 Thanks, and good luck!

  • fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^^

  • Can you give me the tab please? :)

  • @Gjorgji12345 Don't have tabs. sorry, only sheet music..

  • absolutely fantastic

but if you are interpreting Toccata in D minor with a guitar it should sound as guitar and not as a
