This looks bad. When I was a kid, something similar happened to me. My right arm went through a french door, and it cut me up pretty badly. I suffered no lasting impact, but it was scary as heck, as I was only 3 years old. The doctors were malicious and nasty, and wouldn't let my mom in the room when he sewed me up. :(

Along time ago I was 1 or 2 years old I was jumping on the beds, and I fell and broke my left ankle, but I was lucky that I didn't need surgery. Thats why I or you don't jump on the beds because you can get hurt. =(

Often people who have that kind of problem don´t have it when it´s areally lifethreatening situation. If you watch "Woodshop Trauma": the lady in that episode states that she normally has a problem with seeing blood, but in this case she could do what was needed.
