The first part of this video was shot in front of 929 W. Grace which is now a restaurant/venue/arcade where I work security. That block hasn't changed much but the 800 and 1000 blocks have all but been demolished and turned into parking lots for VCU. What a bummer. Great footage of the place I now call home.
I have been waiting for the day to come across an RVA vintage video with subtle music undertow. Thank you so much for digitaly recording an film, great cropping et'al'
Thank you for posting this! Loved seeing things that are long vanished: C&P Telephone, big Detroit cars and the Morriss house at 3:10 into the clip. As an aside, I worked in the Pollak Building (Fashion Design) in '77 and was hoping to see it too.
I wish I could see the frame with the side view of the 1966 red pontiac convertable. I believe that is my car with me driving. They made less than 400 of that model. The frame is shown in the still for this video.
Other than the Lee Art theater being a VCU police station, the village being on the other corner and the hardees being closed it looks pretty much the same. I was living 3 blocks north of this in 77 and rode my skateboard past this corner almost daily as a little punky OG Fan rat. I miss all the American cars. Nice music
These vids are amazing. I too was born that year and also from Richmond, spent my first 25 years there, so to see this-- beautiful. I almost expect to see my parents cruise by in my dad's old dark blue Torino. From the foliage on the trees I'd say I was either already born or nearly so (July baby here).
It really is so fascinating to see how some things have changed between then and now yet some are essentially still the same in that wonderful old city. Thanks so much for this.
