@ kdc43. You know, that's so stereotypical of people that have never been to West Virginia, we have an FBI finger print building in West Virginia, the Grenbank Observatory and a lot of other things that are advanced like that here. If someone here in West Virginia built that, then they must be smarter than you. Do you know the kind of skill it takes to build one of those, because I do!
@97trainman I am a nuclear 1st Class Petty Officer on a Fast Attack Nuke Sub. I work on a 107 Megawatt Westinghouse Nuke Reactor. I've been to Virginia.....Is that close enough for you?
@kdc43 I would like to appoligize. I just take the West Virginia stereo-types very seriously because movies and other people have scarred our reputation and caused us to appear as a bunch of dumb inbreed hicks, and that is completly wrong. Again, I appologize.

That's back woods west Virginia for you, trust me, I live in west Virginia, maybe not that part, maybe in the urban area, but I've been in those places.
Steam is dangerous! The people in this video are putting themselves at risk. With that said they are not putting anybody else at risk. It is not anybody's job to police the world! Enjoy the show!
@chappybolo Steam IS dangerous, it is hot, and under pressure. I would be willing to bet that the boiler on it has not been inspected and licensed by the state. I would be willing to bet that it has not been eddy current tested, x-rayed, or the gauges calibrated. that is careless. but like I said.. i applaud the engineering ability of the person who made this thing. it would be impracticably expensive to do all these things for a homemade machine. Good work to the creator of this thing!!
"it would be impracticably expensive to do all these things for a homemade machine." So all those people building Stanley and Locomoblie replicas and fitting new boilers to original cars don't exist? I suggest you go to the Stanleysteamers website to become a little better informed
@0812201 the stories of unsafe steam comes from the days when ppl replaced saftey valves with a solid bolt! A well made boiler is totally safe, if it fails its usually just leaks and that puts out the fire by it self.
crack is not dangerous if you know what your doing too. Look.. The video was talking about coal power.. I thought instead of wood gas it was coal Gas and it turned out to be steam. I did not need a funny answer.
God bless you folks.. using the least efficient mode of power going .. at low pressue. Use if all you had was wood, fine
and I can see making your own electricity in the winter , inside with steam. you get heat and efficiency does not mean as much.
Coal gas is not the same thing as gasoline, it's more like natural gas, I doubt the EPA would allow coal gas production on any large scale these days because it tends to be a very messy process and besides Mr. Obama wants to bankrupt the coal industry.
Producer gas can just as easily be made from wood or biomass pellets as coal. I'd like to make a producer gas system to heat and power my home - makes good sense in the cold winter months, when solar and wind can't quite cut it. But the whistle adds a nice touch!
I'm working on building a wood gas generator too, I was just commenting on the cheaper than gas question. Wood gas can be pretty messy too, it produces tars, and whatever you make it from it's deadly poison to breath, (Carbon Monoxide) I want to build one to run my Model T Ford on, that's the only car I have with no modern electronic junk that could get messed up by the gas.
Mount the boiler on the other end and you've got the Arkansas Chug-a-Bug.
