  • Where is this from. I never heard it before. Great Peerce!! The high C is terrific, but I do think he rushes just a bit just before the C. But truly wonderful. Bravo!!

  • Thanks for posting this and all the other early Peerce radio broadcasts. Not to detract his immense success as a stage performer, but Peerce's dark lyric voice was tremendously well suited for radio. Along with Josef Schmidt, Peerce had perhaps the finest radio voice of any tenor, among those I've heard.

  • Wonderful! The Great Peerce! And something you don't often hear from him--a high C, and a good one too. This is the original key. One of the greatest--and most beloved--singers America ever produced.

  • Notice how he sings going up at 2:06/2:07 He doesn't just slide up like so many others, but just picks up the A flat instantly. He always sang it that way every time out. By this time his voice had darkened somewhat over the 1930's lighter more lyric sound.

  • Very interesting because the Toscanini tempo is usually faster and before he sings the aria in the live 1946 when Mimi walks in to the room, Toscanini uses a very fast tempo and then actually in the aria it's slightly slower then this was total for Che Gelida, but for radio they had time issues I know , as far as witch one is best, the sound here is closer Miked but I like the Toscanini version as far as tempo better and Peerce is always much the same singing flawlessly and in key as always
