I have a question, my brother keeps saying that you can learn bass by playing an acoustic since they have the same finger techniques, is this true?

@wesleychezz They have the same notes and same frets, but there are big differences. If you learn to play on a guitar, you're training your technique in the wrong way, and will have problems when you come to play a real Bass. The strings are thicker, and you'd have a problem playing them. Try and get a Bass to learn on. Doesn't matter how cheap it is at first :)

the 2 other knobs are for the front/back humbucker output levels. Traditionally a bass has 2 single coils. 1 bridge & 1 neck, as where they would also have seperate power level controls. On guitar i use the bridge pick up(sharp leads), but on my bass i prefer the neck pick up(warm rythms).

good idea but bad habit being shown..i am new to bass and i know this ..you never rest your thumb on top of the pick up because it takes more distance to mute the string you sit it on the face of the pickup just above the string far enough to not mute it

So D'man I came back and watched all your videos again to remember all the things I've learnt the last 6 months. But I noticed that the knuckles of my playing fingers just above my nails ''break upwards'' while I play, I know this will affect my tone so shall I fix it (like playing with my fingers straight) or leave it as it is?

But I want some advise! I'm a complete beginner, as you can tell, no experience what so ever. I've found some cheep (£49) new basses on ebay- brand is Swift (London make).

What do people think about Swift? I'm complete beginner, just figuring things out, surely they'll be okay?

@horserider101202 I would recommend you really really try and play with two. I was the same as you when i started, and it was difficult. But trust me, in the long run, you'll be glad you did. It just makes things easier :)

not to be a hater or anything but if your guitar is tuned right isn't the 5th fret also the next string wouldn't it be easy'er to just go to the next string? whatever, but it was good. dont know how 2 spell easyer.

@austinmcaustin They are exactly the same note, in the same octave. It doesn't matter :) Comes down to preference, but i'd advise beginners to hit frets rather than open strings to gain tendon strength.

hi, i have been playing bass for about a month.

I played in drop d for the first time today, and because the top string is looser than when I play it in standard I seem to be causing the string to hit the fret board alot which makes an awful sound. Its usually when im playing fast stuff with my fingers.

Any tips to make it stop hitting the fret board as much?
