In '63 when this song was popular in LA, I was 14 and lived 1/2 mile from Redondo Beach. I could walk to the beach with my surfboard. I was riding the waves the Beach Boys were singing about in this song; Haggertys and Swamis, Doheny and Huntington Beach. My Dad owned a Willy's Jeepster Woody for cruisin to the beach, back before anyone was surfin on short boards with leashes. Back then we swam all the way to the beach to retrieve our boards. My first board was 12 feet long in 1959.
