Hey all i have 75 Daktari episodes on 19 dvds if anyone is interested. I know it's not the complete series but it sure is a large chunk of it. Message me in private or on here if you are interested. i ship worldwide and the disks are region free.
Erin Moran? I had no idea she was in this vaguely remembered show from, really probably only about 5 years before Happy Days. But the reverse telescoping of time makes it seem eons before
i remember this show. especially clarence the cross eyed lion! tvland should bring it back, along with please don't eat the dasies and the courtship of eddie's father and room 222.
I followed this serie in French when I lived in Belgium when I was a child, I regret I didn't follow it directly in English with the diferent accents of actors US and UK with Edley.
@Kelly14UK i can relate. one of my favorite things to do is browse yt after i've had several adult beverages and just let loose on idiot's comments. being a faceless, smart ass is both cathartic and therapuetic :p
@ultrakool Actually I love you for that comment. Just back from someone's house tonight smoking hash and drinking vodka so big hugs whoever you is : )
hey guys i have all 4 seasons on 19 dvds from my own collection, the quality isn't the best but definitely watchable. i will provide samples if anyone is interested. just send me a private message.
Growing up as a kid I saw this and many other animal based shows, like Lassie, Flipper, even Grizzly Adams. They instilled in me a sense of respect and appreciation for animals. Too bad most of today's programs don't do that.
I was about 8 when this was on. Absolutely loved it. Cried buckets when Clarence the cross-eyed lion died. Would love to see it re-run on TV. So glad nobody remade it and turned it into a junk show......
@BadEggCymru yes, a bit like "wild at heart". But looking back, it was really just lots of stock footage of herds of animals, interwoven with simple storylines, although I suppose it was advanced for its time. Judy the chimp could understand simple tasks spoken in English, and clarence always came to the rescue to scare off the baddies. Was my favourite series apart from the original star treks.
Wow, memories! I used to watch this show back home in the seventies every Saturday morning as a little boy. What a time of innocence that was. Memories.
I remember Daktari when I was a kid. I'm still an animal lover. Really liked the big cats. I didn't see Marshall Thompson in the credits though. Did he quit before the series was over?
@1964Yojimbo Dangerous ; he would take your head straight off and Judy the chimp i wouldnt trust now, since one ripped a woman's entire face off, including her eyes
unless i am completely mistaken, the elephant is an indian elephant. i'm sure the african variety have larger ears and i guess there weren't any african elephants in california.
@wiggo4 Indian elephants are milder-mannered than African, having been domesticated for centuries & used as heavy-haulers thru East Asia-indeed most elephants there are domestic rather than wild...Africans were domesticated in Ancient times-used as tanks by Hannibal,F/E, but as Classical civilization vanished, their use dwindled, & they reverted to the Wild....
Yes, it's true, Erin Moran and Ron Howard were Starring in TV Shows for CBS during the 1960's prior to Happy Days
Ron did The Andy Griffith Show for 8 Seasons as Opie Taylor and Erin did Daktari for 4 Seasons as Jenny Jones
Also, I use to watch this on Pat Robertson's CBN (now abc family) and Ted Turner's TNT (now The Network for Drama) and plus, this show was on when The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Bonanza, I Dream of Jeannie and The Original Star Trek were on NBC back in the 1960's as well.
This used to be on in the early 70's here is Australia. Seems the US had a different intro - didn't have the distinctive african music going on. Great memories. I didn't know that Erin Moran was in the show either. Well there you go, you learn something everyday.
My favorite TV show of all time - still have my "Daktari car" (a blue Landrover matchbox) and a lifelong interest in purchasing a real one - maybe when I retire in a few years. I wish someone would put this series on DVD!
There was a kid in my 8th grade class, who, our teacher (Mr. Ellis) nicknamed Clarence, after Clarence the lion in daktari. You my have guessed, he was cross-eyed.
You can get the pilot movie which was shown in theaters on VHS called Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion but not the TV show and neither on DVD of course. WHAT A STINKING SHAME. Though I guess there are DVD-R's out there available on ebay.
Just bought 75 episodes of Daktari on DVD. Shame they haven't released it officially, as i'm sure many people loved this series (it's a lot better than some of the rubbish on tv now lol)
I remember this from repeats on TV in New Zealand when I was a kid. It was a great series and Judy and Clarence were the real stars. I remember Yale Summers was in it, too, but not featured in this clip
You're right.. modern sitcoms try to create characters that average audience members can FULLY identify with, instead of creating INTERESTING characters.. it's cheesy 'lowest common denominator' programming featuring dumb overwhelmed fat white guys with their ridiculously hot wives/girlfriends and all the angst of ordinary life.. no ADVENTURES.. no twists.. no FUN... It's too bad TV execs don't make crazy shows like this or Mr. Ed or My Favorite Martian anymore, now it's all 'behave-the way-you-see-the-main-characters-are-behaving' shows. Oh, I just loved this show when it was on! I was a young teen then. And what an original and unique idea for a tv series, set in a ficticious Study Center for Animal Behavior in East Africa. No cookie-cutter show here. I loved the trouble Clarence and Judy always got into. Ivor Tors went from Flipper to developing this show, and he did a great job. Hari Rhodes was great in the show too.
Hello Nemeses I just wanted to know after seeing your page , are you cat or human ? if human, male or feline , sorry I mean female? i loved Daktari too , I seem to remember books that my parents brought of the great stories, slightly jungle book influences,
Yes, whenever the cast ended up in the middle of a pride of lions it was always the same film of lions that you saw. It was just like the same crocodile fight appearing over and over again in the Johnny Weismuller Tarzan films.
Oh My god. Just noticed that ERIN MORAN was in this show. never knew that. for you people that the name dont ring a bell with.. she was Joanie Cunningham in the show Happy Days
Music: Osibisa. Was an interesting group in the late 60's. "Criss Cross rythms that explode with happiness". I have (stolen from my older sibling actually ) their first album. If you like this kind of music, you like that.
On voyait cette série en France également ! Avec le même générique !

This was filmed in California but they used to cut in real filmed sequences from Africa, which made the show seem phony

Yes, whenever the cast ended up in the middle of a pride of lions it was always the same film of lions that you saw. It was just like the same crocodile fight appearing over and over again in the Johnny Weismuller Tarzan films.

Music: Osibisa. Was an interesting group in the late 60's. "Criss Cross rythms that explode with happiness". I have (stolen from my older sibling actually ) their first album. If you like this kind of music, you like that.
