P5 only offers 2 watts of increased performance over the P4. It cost an extra $2000 for 2 watts. You could gain the same advantage by losing 1 kilo in weight and you'll save some serious money doing so.
he goes out training with an aero-disc, fuck!! Im jealous, and so I should be..who isn't :P its great to hear his story!! I wish I could see a triathlon/Ironman with him competing :D
Somebody PLEASE tell me what bike that is... it is sooo beautiful i can't get over it. I want a bike like that !! I'm going to have one... x chris lieto forever rrrr
@thecupdidit It's a Trek Speed Concept version 9 i think...u can go to Treks website and u will see all the various versions of it ,\...i think it costs like 10-12k us....!
There's a major problem with triathlon that most people fail to realize. THE BIKE. Travelling in a pack is always an advantage. travelling in a massive bunched up group takes is easy riding, so if your out in front by yourself you have to put in that much more. You see the problem?
holy crap was he fast at IMTX. Such a bummer he had to pull out in the run, but seriously I'm surprised his tires didn't melt on the bike section, he was motoring.
This may be the only thread about athletics I've read on youtube that doesn't degenerate into bragging, trolling or sniping: how refreshing! If only all of the triathletes I compete against had such a reasonable attitude. Great sport, and if you can't swim, there's always duathlon.
There are a lot of naysayers here who probably could not even reach 40 kph in speed let alone cycle for 40 km.
If Lance were to attempt the Ironman, there is no question he would own the bike segment, probably set a new split on it that no one would ever touch for maybe half a century.
There is a different mind-set for pro triathletes that don't apply to time trials. Time trials are all-out effort. The bike segment is done conservatively here. Lance supercruises where others would max out.
Doubt it. Lance is a world class time trialist, Lieto is a world class triathlete. Plus I think they did just that in a training session (Trek sponsor connection between the two). Armstrong beat him by some tiny amount.
@ToxicFrog, Even in IM though i doubt he could outbike lieto. Lance is used to warming up for 30mins before hand. Its hard going from horizontal to vertical. The trick up the sleeve is armstrongs backround in triathlon. He has won many triathlons and was a top tier swimmer. Still not a chance against the pro IMs
@ToxicFrog I think LA could do extremely well in the race....top 50 even! But on the bike its hard to say....id imagine he would HAVE done well a few years ago, he might have the edge after all....but its hard to say....lieto is a fantastic time trialist....He could race as a pro biker id say.....even do well!!
well in 2011 imma smoked that fool with my Felt B12. just to show that all these $7000 bikes are all show. might even race in my old 1992 alluminum shcwinn 10 speed and blow these PROS off the road. illmake READ headlines then
@robotpredator8 You can make it faster that way but the frame geometries will remain different since they build the bike with different angles and different goals in mind.
@chowychow I couldn swim 2 lengths, i got into tri from a running injury that told me id struggle as a runner, now my strength is swimming...it took time (and frustration!) but it was one of the best things i ever did going back to the pool...
@chowychow : Go to your local pool and take lessons. Swimming can be learned. It is of course more about proper technique than cycling or running. But you can learn it and swimming is the shortest of the three disciplines. So you can still catch up with a poor swimming time on the bike or on the run. Furthermore a wetsuit will help you a lot, especially when you are a poor swimmer.

No doubt Lance would have zero chance at the overall. I'm speaking of only the bike stretch. Lance really should have the edge...maybe not today.
