That version is an abomonation for classical music lovers !the most traditional version is the version sung in India in Raag Bihaag traditionally as a drut bandish! the lyrics given below are the traditional words.Kishori Amonkarji sings a different version 'Mohe Jaane de Kanha sang milan jaane de' as Bihag drut with wonderful taans and Laykaari!
Noor Jahan sang a film song and the first lines are the only connection and there is no resemblance to Raag Bihag either!
I am a GREAT fan of Pandit Jasraj ji! had the good fortune to listen to him live, and his gharana and the special taan patterns murkis and bol baants sat rather uncomfortably on the shuoulders of THIS composition. His Haveli sangeet Krishna bhajans in Bihag are sang by panditji splendidly! I am just a listner and only say what sounded nice and what didnt! I am not a musicologist! Just my subjective opinions!
Beghum Akhtar has sang beautifully and that was in a BW movie long ago
Beghum Akhtar has sang beautifully and that was in a BW movie long ago! cant remember the movie but the context is the heroine waiting for her beloved! Pandit Jasraj has made Haveli Sangeet his own and Raag bihaag was used effectively by R D Burman ji!Pandit Jasraj has made Raag Adaana ( "Mata Kaalika") and other bhajans in other Raagas his own including Raag Darbaari!
I cant sing the same praises even if one of his own desciples like Sanjeev Anhyankar sings "Mata Kaalika!" L O L!

Hi, are you sure you are on the right wave length? i doubt it! who is pray Sanjeev ji? you mean Sanjeev Abhayankar? yes the point i was making there is NOT disrespectful of the singer i was just comparing his Guru's version of Raag Adana and the bhajan Mata Kaalika!
mere observation is not a crriticism nor an insult.
BTW you are WECOME TO YOUR opinion no matter how subjective! Peace and love brother!L O L!
lajawab Panditji.I just can able to compare you with Ustad Kale Khan sab or Ustad Fyaz khan sab.Why shall I try?It is sufficient for me.

@guru8351 Lyrics here are little different.
Lat urjhi suljha ja balam
Haath ne mehendi laagi more balam
Mathey Ki Bindiya giri gayi sej pe
Apne haath sajaa ja balam.
Pt. Bhimsen Joshi sings little different. I have uploaded his version.

One of the most beautiful songs by Pt. jasraj. The lyrics and cadence are so nice, I can even tolerate his unnecessary meends and "asthayee" notes.
