Yep, this song brings many a tear to my eye. I'm afraid I'm upsetting the eight year old inside me. No job, no prospects... Lost my imagination along the way... I'd be disappointed in myself... Sadly no peace comes at the end of my song....
Wait a second... This is Track 09. Track 08 was Chronofax, talking about how you can talk to your younger or older self. And the line "One day I'll be you, though I'm only 8 now"... I'm thinking Chronofax was basically a nice set up for this song. The little boy and the man are one and the same. Each one learns from the other, with the man learning to make his life worth living the way his childhood self always dreamed of doing. It's.... genius. Beautiful. Take your pick.
@chakramsoldier This is based on a letter Captain Robert found in his childhood home written by his 8 year-old self at a time when he was being abused by a seriously psychotic older brother and his parents were going through a divorce. At the time he was reading it, he was stuck in a job he hated and was struggling to make ends meet, and it got him thinking that it was never too late to pursue his dream of being a musician. Very moving lyrics to this song :)
is it possible to get permission to use this song in something that came to me when first listened to this? if you want more info I'd be happy to PM you with the info.
@narutoancillus They've been having Jody sing a lot more than their previous female singers. A great choice, since her voice is so beautiful. So at first, her part is kind of a recap of Robert's regret, his thoughts of despair at what his life has become. The second part, Jody's duet with Robert, is all about the hope and joy he feels after listening to the little boy he used to be, and taking his life back.
Wow...I am blown away by this one. This is a powerful song. I do not know if they even comprehend the power behind these words. How many of us are existing? How many of us, if confronted by our child selves would be able to tell them our life is happy and full of the wonder and beauty that we once held on to? I couldn't.

Bring's a tear to my eye. That's not easy to do, but Abney Park seem's to be able to do it so easily...

This song is a commitment that we should all make no matter the age we first make it.
It gives me strength to get ahead and work hard towards my goals every time I hear it.

Life should be exciting,
And sometimes scary, but
what you're describing doesn't
seem worth the time
Amen to that
