Love Clinton and Mindy...we use Clinton's techniques as the basis for a lot of our training. I posted a video response of desensitizing one of our weanlings Zip - have a look!
Amazing how he can do so many random maneuvers with that horse based on eye contact, and body placement. I myself am a barrel racer, and I so much admire his horsemanship skills and knowledge of the horse. Your one of my idols Clinton, keep training and writing training books.
can anyone tell me what clinton anderson is all about? like compare and contrast w/ pat parelli and monty roberts? i dont know anything about him. thank you:)
@xoSiNgInGiNtHeRaInox Clinton Anderson is more assertive with his training. He gets respect right away and his teaching methods are great. I have done some of his. I personally am a Parelli fan. Parelli is more the waiting and doing whats right for the horse and different horsenalities which work out great cause everyhorse is different. I think they are both great horsemen. I don't know Monty though
I cant beleive he retired her. :( Im sad. Glad i went to one of his tours to see Mindy, Diez and Clinton tho. They are truly amazing. Not even words can explain how awesome they are.
All who are not fans of putting pressure(aka discomfort/pain) on your horse and releasing it to get the behavior you want, please look into Friendship Training. It is truley DIFFERENT. :)
@4Champ2and0 this is a good/easy way of training a horse without pain. It also creates a bond/trust/friendship between horse and rider. The techniques clinton uses is pressure and release. The horse learns from the release of pressure. Putting pressure on what u dont want your horse to do, makes doing the right thing easy. (Unpressered.)
@BarrelRacer955 You oviously dont know hardly anything about clinton anderson. I watch his tv shows every time they are on, and i have gone to one of his tours. I use his tecniques on my horse and they are very effective and non abusive.
@BarrelRacer955 I was going to do NH w/my horse. I got started with the round pen/ground work and decided after starting, to do some more research on equine behavior. After doing so, I decided it just wasn't the relationship I was looking for. NH puts the person in the position of the dominant mare. People don't seem to realize that it sets your relationship up for confrontations. Even if the horse is passive, he still views you as that dominant mare (which the majority of horses ‘fight’ for...
@BarrelRacer955 You see this in the herd all the time, even when the mare has established her self, she still has to “hold” the position). With FT it just creates a different bond. It is based on communication rather than dominance. So to the horse, you are a preferred associate. You can still use bits and bridles for shows later in the training, it's just a different relationship foundation. That’s all.
@BarrelRacer955 As far as CA, I too went to one of his tours. I was appalled at his ‘pop’ and jerking on the rope/horses face. But, like you said..it’s easy(er)/less time consuming for the human. So that makes it popular. I still agree that this is NOT an abusive form of training. I just think that since we are in the year 2010 we should start to look outside the box. With so much knowledge at our disposal, we should strive to do better by the animals that we love so much.
@BarrelRacer955 Thank you for being so kind. I would still implore you to do *unbiased* research on equine behavior and development, if you haven't already. ;) Not only is it interesting, but a better understanding of your equine partner can only bring better things to the relationship. The Friendship Training web site has a heap of information about the horse that many people don't really think about as well as a different perspective on NH. I do hope you will check it out. Happy Trails! =)
@BarrelRacer955 Thank you for being kind. I still implore you to do *unbiased* research on equine behavior & development. To the comments on Clinton beating his horses; do you have some video footage of this?? Give me a break!! Watch a reining horse being ridden, watch a W/P, showmanship or any other event where a horse doesn't "pin" their ears... I've yet to see a reiner being ridden who doesn't pin their ears while doing a spin or pattern, a W/P horse loping, etc. You think if the horse was pissed off, it would be kicking the crap out of Clinton when he is behind it.
really amazing!! i have been watching this video for so many times now and i'm still very impressed. hope to have a relationship like that with my horse some day. i'm working on it... :-)
omg you are the worst person ever you all no that before the horses go in that ring he beats them so when something that moves i the arena the horse is like woo duhh the horse is going to have there ears up because he is moving around the arena!!!!!! i HATE ALL people who think they are the horsemenship queen or king!!
Are you on crack??? Clinton's horses respond the way they do because he uses great horsemanship skills and has hours upon hours of doing his homework. I spent time with him 2 summers in a row and NO part of his teachings had ANYTHING to do with beatings. I watched him take the worst horses and make they compliant and willing through communication and hard work. NEVER did he EVER raise his emotions or lose self control. His horses trust him and his title has been earned.
@hunterjumperxgrace Hm, I wonder if that's true. Either way, you sound as displeased with this man as I am. I heard from another person that he swung a foal around by the tail to "teach it some respect". Natural horsemanship in general is not all it is cracked up to be. I have looked into it and found that clicker training and Friendship Training are prob the most humane. Thanks for looking past the hype though, and truley caring for the horse. :)
Not only would I love to meet Clinton! But I would really love to BE him! To have such a connection with these beautiful giants is my forever dream! Can't wait until the show in Kissimmee, Fl.

Clinton came to the US to study at the Parelli Center but soon left when he found he could make more money on his own..Good for him..he is the one with the sponsers all over his shirts..He works for his sponsers
Clinton Anderson is one the best horseman i have ever seen!! Mindy clearly loves him and would do anything for him! This is truly amazing! I personally think Clinton is a million times better than Pat Perelli! His method works wonders! Love him!!
Some of you obviously haven't seen Pat Parelli or any of his top students ..they do this and more! Clinton was a Parelli student in Australia before doming to US..That is where he learned most of this...FACT
I have used them and didnt even know it. he just commercialized it made a program for begginer horse lovers.
Second, CA demands respect much more then Parelli does. CA is much more of a true horsemen, it aint all about being your horsies buddy and playing with them. hes much more realistic. He can ride.he doesnt do things things that could be dangerous like Parelli does just to show off and tantalize people.
lol. I dont like Pat because some of the things he does are just plain stupid in my opinion. I watched him and 2 other guys hold on to eachothers pants in a line and the dude infront was holding a halter and they were running around like horses. Thats just plain stupid. But i do have to say, some people understand/get more out of one trainer than another.
Funny, those seem like a lot of 'games' Parelli uses. Clinton just makes these exercises more practical and realistic, instead of 'playing' and 'games.' I certainly don't see any violence or domination in this. I see a healthy respect for the man and the willingness to work with him. Great performance.
Never ever seen anything like this in my life, bought a horse 7 weeks ago, started training her, only ridden once, this is what i aspire too, totally bliss full 5 star!
All I can say is this is horsemanship at it's best! Hopefully I'll be able to do this with my horse one day. She's already learned the first five exercises super quick. lol

its beautiful what he can do with this horse but I wonder how much of HIS time was actually spent with this horse. Outfreakinstanding!!! to the point its just mesmorizing! I love to watch or catch any chance I get to see a horse & owner or trainer partnership like this. It brings me almost to tears to see it and even more so every time. Great show!!! and Thanks
AWSOME!!!!!!!!! My new goal in life is to be a horse trainer. I dont care if im famious, as long as i can some day be able to do this with my horse! AMAZING!!!
really beautiful, i hope he knows how lucky he is to have that little bay mare, i lost my little bay mare due to poor sportsmanship and liars and not getting anything on paper about a year ago, i miss her, I really hope shes alive.
This is amazin and lovely! I am soooo impressed and with al that is going on in my life personally watching this mkes it all ok! :D It s like seeing this is an amazing nd beautiful experience... That lifted me out of a tuff spot. Thank you for posting this. Please keep sharing these. :D God bless you in all you do and all your day. :D
just attended his '08Wahl tour in NC a few weeks ago--i'm ADDICTED lol.started our geldings on his methods, can't get over the difference in such a short per.of time!OH and he now does trix w/Mindy, sit, wave etc.LOL "to keep her from gettin' bored Mate" ;)great seminar, great guy!
This is just so awesome - everyone should aspire for this! I agree that watching this helps keep you motivated - for the goal of attaining this! This is my goal. I hope I can post my video that looks just like this!!
I think your on the right track! I watch videos ALL the time to learn new technique and Clinton Anderson is one of the best influences you can get. The best way to learn, is to first admit that you don't know it all. Hope things are going well with your young 'un!! ^_^
why is having a video to look at and motivate somehow a bad thing????? I have no problems with working with my horses and I enjoy it, this video just keeps reminding me to push for more and more and not get lazy and content with what I have. Most people around me come ride thier horse 20 minutes once a week and dont teach anything new. I dont want to ever get like that. We travel the country with our horses so we board but self care so we dont get lazy. I go and work with my horse everyday
It's not a bad thing--obviously mandakay42 doesn't know what you mean. I'm sure Clinton would be thrilled to hear that you use his video for inspiration & motiviation. My favorite gaited horse trainer Bucky Sparks met Clinton & told him that he uses his sayings at his clinics. Clinton said, "That's what it's there for, mate." It's great to watch a master at work to help us reach our goals and have his approval of it!
I am not sure why a 20 year old always seems to think they know it all. But you do not. Ipray you are not humbled in a painfullway but gentle and it allows you to be in more tocuh with the ways in which we can educate not only ourselves buteach other. I am not trying to attack you, but really, your probably in college and probably read books and watch movies for reference. This is no diffrent. Actually its quite the same and Clinton is generous enough to share it all for free.
We could be paying to dissagree like this. But Clinton is sharin his knowledge with us and you kno in this day when eeyone s out to make a buck. I fidit trully a blessing. We all need reminders. Maybe turn off MTV and Stop watching THE HILLS and you will see this a as a beautiful gift.
This looks like it was filmed at the WAHL Walkabout Tour in Cookville, TN on Aug 4-5, 2007. Does anyone know if it is? We were there and it looks like the arena. It was a great clinic and we really enjoyed ourselves!! Great work Clinton. Mindy is gorgeous!!
