  • D'uh, gee, Tennessee!

  • Great Show for the kids. Educational . The complete series is coming out on dvd in March.

  • Tennessee Tuxedo -- the most educational pre-PBS cartoon ever made!

  • That sounds like Inspector Gadget, is that the same guy who does the voice??

  • I would watch this when i was 7 years old... and now in 14 and i still enjoy it :]

  • the late Don Adams

  • I remember watching the originals when I was young in the early 60's. When cartoons meant something.

  • Love me some chumley :)

  • Iranians watched Tennessee Tuxedo??....who knew?

  • If the show were remade today, would Maurice LaMarche do well as Tennessee. He'd already replaced Don Adams as Gadget.

  • @ilikeamazon

    I was wondering that myself.

  • chumlee rules!!

  • From the days when cartoons at least attempted to educate...

  • I like how the zoo has a Penguin and walrus house...lol

  • no differance between the chumlee then and the chumlee now

  • Go Go Gadget Oops Wrong Cartoon!

  • @UltimateThanos Do you know the guy who plays Tux Tennesee is also the guy who played Coach Commet in the Rankin/Bass Rudolph and Inspector Gadget and Gadget Boy?

  • @BrianEnraged96 ........That's why I made that joke.

  • @BrianEnraged96 ........That's why I made that joke.

  • ipad, eat your heart out. you cant compete with the 3 dimensional blackboard.

  • wowsers!

  • With a pal like Chumley, Tennessee needs no enemies.

  • Secret squirrel

  • I must have been like 7 when I watched Tennessee Tuxedo. It was during the 80's when I remember seeing this cartoon.

  • Who else thinks Chumlee from Pawn Stars is really intelligent, he just plays the part of a fool to get laughs? he seems so endearing and good natured, but not stupid. are you with me?

  • @justlookizzle nah, the idiot damaged a bowling game from the 1960's i don't think you can fake that stupidity not to mention when he broke that glass case with the ball and chain but yeah chumley is easily the most loveable, heck they all are but chumley gives the show that extra feel.

  • i have not seen this since 1974

  • Before there was Google, there was Mr. Whoopie.

  • OMGoodness!!!! I almost forgot about Mr. Whoopie. This makes me so nostalgic.

  • Pawn Stars anyone?

  • 5 Barney fans...

  • thumbs up if you got here by finding out Chumlee from Pawn Stars was nicknamed after this cartoon

  • @stinkypita69 even better is when they base some of the storylines on the show ON the cartoon itself..... that Chumlee....

  • Guys, I also grew up in 80s in Shiraz watching the episodes. Hilarious:-)

    one of favorites

  • I haven´t been in Iran since 1980. Grew up with these cartoons, also Aquaman, Go-gophers, Rocky and Bolwinkel, Wonderdog etc in the -70´s. Never knew that thy continued showing these cartoons in Iran even after the revolution

  • Thanks for putting this up. Good to see the old cartoons where you could get both entertainment value out of it and also a bit of education.

  • But Tenasee Tuxedo. You need Argon gas... Where are you going to get Argon Gasss??

  • i love mr. whoopee and the 3D BB!

  • i LOVE the 3D BB!

  • Don Adams, the future voice for Inspector Gadget!

  • fishfan67...you're right. On one of the episodes of Pawn Stars they said that their Chumlee was nicknamed after this one...I can see why...

  • fishfan67......you're right. They even said on one of the Pawn Stars shows that their Chumlee was named after this one..I can see why....

  • Shows like "Rocky & Bullwinkle" and "Tennessee Tuxedo" got a LOT of mileage out of limited animation. The cleverness of the ideas and humor show through pretty well even now. I still miss Don Adams--much of the other voice talent sounds familiar, too. I'm sure that I heard Daws Butler in there.

  • Fishfan ur right.. He got the nickname when he was a kid ...

  • what was the name of that cartoon inventor who had a little assistant called leanardo. He also said stupid thinghs like a is for apple and p is for pull?

  • @JHORANX2O clyde crashcar

  • @rdemaria1000 thank you for your answer.

  • @JHORANX2O clyde crashup

  • @JHORANX2O clyde crashcup

  • I bet this is where Chumly on the tv show pawn stars got his name he even looks like him....lol

  • Oh good... This will help me write my 10 page description essay on "the light bulb"

  • Chumley had zippo

  • thomas edison was great

  • " I'll bet it's that pesky Penguin & Walrus again, Come on Flunky." Stanley Livingston.

  • "Do you want to be ignorant ALL your life...do you, do you do you?"

  • I don't think people actually realized how educational this cartoon series really was. I still remember Tennessee asking the Professor how airplanes flew, and the professor giving a brief lesson on the mechanics of flight. It's a shame that quality Saturday morning cartoons like this have gone by the wayside, and I'm lucky that we baby-boomers were fortunate enough to have them.

  • Today, we would call the three-dimensional blackboard a laptop.

  • I used to know a girl named Dawn Adams

  • oh my god, i now know the meaning behind my dad calling me "chumley"!!!

  • i forgot all about this cartoon, thanks alot for posting

  • It seems that Chumley in this is just like Chumlee in Pawn Stars: The character with good intentions who breaks everything.

  • why do a Penguin and Walrus live in a cage and not in a pool?

  • @JHORANX2O Actually in some episodes they do live in a pool. Their living space seems to change each episode.

  • ooh chumley... one of these days chumley

  • Don Adams, was priceless!!!

  • Classic!!!

  • how do animals in a zoo have their own

    house?

  • I'm going to try making my own light bulbs.

  • I went to college with Chumley the Walrus- Man, an obvious relative.

couldn't play tennis worth a dam, tho.

  • Was this the same guy who had tusks and wore dress socks? And he was an awesome tennis player. You did not witness every game like I did. He did be a trio of Smit-Lemke, and Ness many times.

  • looks like dangol' chumlee!!!

  • Wow, I've learned something today.

I remember this show. I loved Tennessee Tuxedo. Fun to see this as an adult. I still love cartoons tho.

    Thx!

  • That's because the voice behind Stanley Livingston WAS a "Jewish New Yorker", 'ff'- a veteran radio/TV actor named Mort Marshall, who was also the original voice of the "Trix Rabbit" and "Klondike Kat"...

  • Never thought I'd see this stuff again. ...that pesky penguin and walrus... got a big laugh out of that segment of this clip. Was probably 4 years old then. Thanks so much for posting!

  • Mr Livingston sounds like a jewish new yorker.

  • I use to know the guy who did the voice for the walrus. Friendly guy, lives in Dobbs Ferry NY, if he is still alive. I haven't seen him in a few years.

    I loved this cartoon.

  • Dayton Allen's brother, Bradley Bolke, did Chumley. Dayton died a number of years ago but I think Bradley is still with us.

  • I haven't seen this in years!!!!!!! great memories' thank you!!!!!!!!

  • Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales was a popular, semi-educational animated cartoon show that originally aired on CBS from 1963 to 1966. It was produced by Total Television, the same company that produced the earlier King Leonardo and the later Underdog, and primarily sponsored by General Mills. The title is a play on tuxedo and tails formal wear.

  • What year did this cartoon come out?

  • chumley goes fishing with fan, real name's rich verrier

  • "Improve our minds" lol

  • I loved this cartoon as a kid and it is very educational too.

  • I remember watching this when i was a kid. What a cool cartoon, classic comedy. Nowdays, a kid show needs to have mutants, superheroes and other nonsense. Fuckin' spiceage crap.

  • Stanley Livingston's voice is the same as the original Trix Rabbit...

  • kool show in the old days.

  • you are one sick perverted pup

  • Actually the people that make of lot of these cartoons are the sick ones. You must be one of those people living in LA LA land thinking "Oh surely no one would put that in a cartoon." Hey, believe what you will, but you should do a little research on subconcious manipulation before you speak. In a world full of lies, truth is stranger than fiction.

  • yeah right, that's exactly what they were thinking in 1962, how can we subliminaly seduce children? I guess it's time to decode and decipher your message and find out what you are are really trying to propagandize,,,

  • yawn......why try and decipher something you don't belive is true? And you are 50 years of age.......People we have to better............LOL

  • one sick perverted pup with her mind in the gutter, so sad

  • Your beginning to repeat yourself, now it's really getting boring. But hey who knows? Miracles happen, maybe you'll have an independent thought one day. Just search that place way in the back of your mind, that dark little place. Be careful, don't hurt yourself.

  • Glad you found your home in that dark little perverted corner of your mind where everything is filthy and where you believe the whole world must also think just like you.

  • Still searching I see.....LOL.Who is this guy? He's 50 years old, going back and foward with someone he believes is a pervert....And who says a mind isn't a terrible thing to waste?.....LOL....

  • Go get em Sterling!............LOL.....Is that you? Your name's sterling? That's a pretty funny name dude, sterling...LOL...You must laugh all the time.

  • What x-rated shit?

  • Comment removed

  • It is. Winston Sharples sold the music pieces as production music for Tennessee Tuxedo. It's been also used in Felix The Cat (The TV Series)

  • I used to watch this every day after school in the early 70s. Back when you could actually learn from watching cartoons. It was a while before I noticed that the voice of Tennesse Tuxedo and Maxwell Smart were one in the same!

  • they were also one, and the same with Inspector Gadget. right?

  • Correct. Don Adams was Maxwell Smart, Tennessee Tuxedo and Inspector Gadget

  • lol tenessee tuxedo looks like obama!

  • this brings back memories ;)

  • agent 86

  • i named my cat chummley

  • chummley

  • Was this by Jay Ward?

  • woowo, such a little world! I used to watch it in persian in Iran!

  • Yes indeed (doosté aziz), it is a small world, since I myself got to see these cartoons dubbed in farsi in Teheran in the early -70´s. The memories do stay with you, don´t they?

  • Those cartoons are all unforgeteble....

  • @promte2002 How about Morad Barghi va Mahboobeh?

  • Chumley is Cleveland Browns head Coach Romeo Crennel

  • lol-don't insult chumley

  • wiley207: Good analogy. Tennessee could be George. This classic pair is used alot in cartoons. Think of the WB cartoons with the crininals Rocky and Mugsy. Or the abominable snowman..."I will hold him, and pet him, and squeeze him, and I will call him GEORGE!" LOL

  • Gee Tennessee, what are we going to do now?

Chumley, I think it's time to see Mr. Whoopi!

    Let's go!

  • well what can i say, i love penguins, i loved tennesee growing up, and its so great to see the old cartoons again. thanks a lot for posting!

  • AAAH!!! ITS DON ADAMS!!!! lol i luv that man 2 death :) i wish this stuff was around now! all i've got 4 childhood memories is Clifford! the baby boomers got Get Smart!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 RIP don adams!!!!

  • Well...At least we got "Inspector Gadget". Very similar to "Get Smart". Max dealt with KAOS. Gadgtet got M.A.D. Maxwell had 99 to encourage him and help him while Gadget had Penny and Brain to assist him in all his cases.

Then there was Don's work as a stand up comedian. If you ever get a chance, listen to him. One of the wittiest and most imaginative stand up comedians ever to grace our planet!

  • Yeah, i've been looking for him doing standup!

but i can't find any!!! do u know where i could watch some? i'd love to! :)

  • TT is a loan officer now. Seriously.

  • Maxwell Smart as a penguin- this is friggn' awesome

  • Is it just me, or does Chumley remind me of Lenny from "Of Mice and Men?"

  • Oh Yes! You are right. But I don't think Lenny had tusks!!

  • Lenny was a human, and Chumley was a walrus :p But they were both not very smart, kinda overweight, said "Duh" in a lot of their speech, and both wore a similar hat style.

  • John Lennon was the walrus... no wait, that was a different one.

  • yeah you're actually thinking of a Beatles song (one that MENTIONS a walrus)

  • ...'sick, chumly's cheeks look like a set of hairy ones..sex on my brain, i guess

  • wheres the dude wit the 3-d calk board! (ive never seen any tennessee tuxedo cartoons)

  • Tungsten..Filament..hey I learned something, cool!

  • Once again fat people ruin everything!

  • Chumley was misunderstood.

  • Chumley's the inspiration for Forest Gump.

I miss Don Adams--He "never failed" until death killed him

  • Cmon and see, see, see, Tennessee Tuxedo!!!

  • Oh My God! I soooo remember my childhood vividly! Like the summer holidays spent just watching this aaaaall day long! And that was a good 25 yrs ago. Pity they don't make cartoons like this anymore...

  • Don adams also did inspector gadget.

  • The NFL should have named the franchise in Tennessee, "The Tennessee Tuxedos" instead of the Titans, with Tennessee Tuxedo on the side of the helmet.

  • What a great cartoon memory. Simplier times back then.

  • Better times back then...

  • OMG DON ADAMS IS IN THIS!!!

  • Yes, he was the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo!

  • this is what cartoons today need lids today dont even know cartoons like this even thoguh its funny and somewhat educational

  • I am saddened to see that today's animated features lack the educational resources that were explained in this Tennessee Tuxedo Cartoon. Besides, is there a need for the E/I rating logo to appear on our TV screens? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!

  • Thanks for uploading these.

  • The guy from get smart voices the penguin

  • That's right. His name is Don Adams.

  • I often wonder where people dig these up out of or are they still televised...anyone remember touche turtle...

  • I do remember Touche Turtle, boy was it great. A few episodes of Tennessee Tuxedo are actually commercially availabe on DVD.

  • I got my nieces and nephew the Pink Panther collection... they go crazy over them, especially my nephew....my favorite are still all the old bugs bunny characters...oh and can't forget the flintstones...

  • Not Chumley-Tennessee sounds like Chris Wallace and Brian Williams.

  • I can't decide-if Chumley sounds more like the NBC anchor Brian Williams or the Fox anchor Chris Wallace.

  • I can't believe that so many kids in school and summer camp talked like Chumley, saying "duh" and "gee" all the time. I always thought they were "dorky." The way Chumley talks is like a stereotypical retarded guy! I also have a customer that lives in Tennessee and talks like that, so I wonder if they all talk like that in Tennessee.

  • I know what you mean about dumb light bulb!

When I get an idea it always appears dull to those who are so damn far away. But to others it is like a Nuclear blast FLASH.

    Hmm!?

  • How many toothpicks did it take? A Milan?

  • my uncle made a replica of the cathedral at Milan made entirely of toothpicks. later, my grandmother put a curse on it.

  • I remember those days. Betty rubble was high on coke most times, and what a bitch! Mel blanc really screwed us doing voice overs of our real voices and doing those comedic ones. Man. It still makes my concrete car shake with anger!

  • I wish that the Tennessee Tuxedo Show were back on free tv. I miss it.

  • That was pretty educational, and interesting concerning Edison's experiments.

Though I always wondered what would happen if Mr. Livingston found out about Mr Whoopee telling these two about how to do things.

  • Howard Sterns' dad recorded these cartoons in his studio.

  • The opening is cut off..this was the first episode...since it depicts them being brought to the zoo..Mr.Whoopee, in a rare moment, gets a bit ticked at our friends at one time before he reassures them that they'll find a way..

  • Why don't these cartoons come back on Saturdays they were the best days to watch tv. These were the best cartoons ever. I would wake up and watch cartoons that were american non of these cartoons like today. I even got my kids hooed on the old cartoons.

  • btween this mr peabody and school house rock i learned more then most of my time in the californina public school system

  • That's less a reflection of the California public school system, than ...

  • thanks for the saturday morning fave,i havent seen this stuff in thirty years,it is wonderful!thanks again

  • Don Adams voiced Tennessee, Bradley Bolke voiced Chumley, Delo States voiced Stanley Livingston and Larry Storch voiced Phineas J. Whoopee...but who did the voice of Flunkie?

  • Larry Storch did Mr. Whoopie? How interesting, thanks for the heads up! btw, how could you tell? the credits never matched up the character with the actor?

  • Many references mention it...and the Warners's Cool Cat cartoons have a hunter named Rimifire, ("I say, Col.Rimfire, naive poster on Youtube) and those do credit Larry Storch.

  • The Penguin sounds incredibly like Don Adams/Inspector Gadget.

  • That's because he's voiced by Don Adams.

  • Thanks! I didn't think he was active when this was made. Who's doing the others?

  • I don't know. I'm only familiar with Don Adams's filmography.

  • Bradley Bolke was the voice of Chumley and Larry Storch was the voice of Phineas J. Whoopee

  • Larry Storch? It doesn't sound like him! Wow. I do know I've seen Storch's name on cartoon credits, though.

  • I know. I'm only going by IMDB, but I haven't disagreed with them yet. I've read a few things about Don Adams and Larry being friends before and when they were starting out as actors, so it makes sense if it's true. In any case, I'm just so glad someone who loved this cartoon as much as we did put a few of them up here. Larry S. was such a character comic that I could see him doing any voice. Kind of like Frank Gorshin, he did everything too. Thanks for the reply!

  • explains how Larry Storch got the role of the Groovy Guru on the Get Smart episode, but at the time, in addition to his regular feature on F Troop, Larry Storch was on tons of TV shows, Gilligan's Island for one...

  • And Don Adams was the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo. I think Tennessee Tuxedo had more brains than Inspector Gadget.

  • ...made out of BAMBOO?? Rock-ON, Mister Whoopee, with the 3-D B.B.! How-come they don't make 'em like THAT anymore?

  • Hell Yes!!! I love it. Things from my childhood ROCK. They forgot to make the episode where Chumley's taken all the crap he can stand off of Tennessee and kicks his ass... THANKS for the post...got any School House Rock???

  • This looks like one of the real early ones.

  • i used to love watching these reruns in the 80s.
